Do they break down n things stop working on them when you go off-road n get the bike all muddy ?

If you clean the bike after every ride it will work just fine.

no, they are very easy to. you just need that number plate thing on the back which has brake light and indicators. =)
well, thats all i had to do to mine in australia.
