if you test a car like this, you need deactivate the ESP antispin and drive it more harder then this pussydriving. also the winshot works better if the roll bar is down and then put the winshot up, then its mutch less wind than how you tested it now.

Nice smooth power delivery isn't worth the premium. You need to have an ego and like speed to own a car like that. Old sensible dudes just wanting a nice looking gt with a convertible will get the 550 every time.

I think the turbo lag is the most unique feature on the SL600 & I love it. The delay adds to the suspense of when that sudden burst of acceleration kicks in. My friend owns a Kawasaki ZX9R Ninja, & had asked him to hold the pedal for a few seconds. At 1st nothing is happening whilst on the dual carriage way (at 40mph). Suddenly after 3 seconds it accelerates like his motorbike and he is shocked to his stomach how a car of this class can be on par to Motorbike acceleration at certain points.

Benz are reliable cars. My C280 has 173k on the odo and I havent had any problems. Just replaced 2 light bulbs & a relay for the pwr seats. Im a tech and I know most people filling out consumer reports arent very knowledgeable about mechanics and autotechnology. Theirs a big difference between a bad relay & a bad tranny but it doesnt matter to the consumer. Not to mention 80% of problems r caused by the owners/operators neglect. Merc quality and reliability is still among the best in the world.

the V12s especially the twin turbos and ESPECIALLY the AMG models have the highest matinence costs out of any massed produced vehical. The parts and labor are rediculously expensive.

It doesn't really matter how reliable these cars are it has way too many cyllinders to not be a money pit. I talked to someone who bought a 05 sl 65 and he traded for a G550 immediately because of how high the expense was.

These are great cars but very expensive.

Well heres a simple solution, DON'T LIVE BEYOND YOUR MEANS. Just because you can buy a vehicle with a Supercar V12 doesn't mean you can afford to maintane it. You never here the Ferrari guys complaining about their $10k tune ups (not exagerated) and break jobs. You wan't to drive a prestige car, be ready to pay for prestige service unless you're skilled enough to do the work yourself.

I agree mostly. It's still just such a headache to fix stuff. If you buy one used you have to mach the price of the car just to get it road legal. I've known 3 people who've own SL's(two new one used) and they all traded them in. And it wasn't because of money, it was the constant mantinence.

I think for a car guy he'll understand but for the average wealthy guy who buys one of these it's one of the worst investments you can make.
