  • Nevermind remembered it haha "Mark Farina - Betcha do"

  • It's killing trying to remember what track that vocal was sampled on???

    "rythm & melody"

  • thanks for the knowledge, always was my favorite part of the song as well

  • This rocks. I'm going to send this to Mick. He'll love it.

  • Outstanding.

  • always good

  • Hip Hop Hooray?

  • Funktual, you never cease to amaze. good isht. thanks. cratenerd hitting the exact session drummer....very impressive. Jamie you should do a 7-8 minute lesson on The Amen Break. most cats know The Winstons and the G.C. Coleman drum break from 1968 "Amen, Brother", and how widely it was sampled in Hip Hop culture, but you need to put your crazy, wild, funky spin on that joint........please share. and big ups to Pigmeat Markham

  • It has already been done by ppl who are more qualified. Glad u dig the vid tho!

  • dope break

  • great vid.....keep em comin

  • Very cool sample! Love learning all of this music history! Oh, and don't think I didn't notice the Breakin' soundtrack in the background!

  • DJFunktual - I have a talented rapper who needs beats - you can definitely make beats if you can recognize these. He's on youtube so it's a five sec look...

  • If you didn't tell me that that "Here Come the Judge" was from 1968, I would have definitely guessed early 1980's. That was way ahead of its time.

And who says rock songs can't have samples?

  • That was a tasty gem you found there funktual, BAD 2 is honestly something I never heard of and never would have if it weren't for you crate digger

  • I have that original BAD album. Notice Cool Herc in the liner notes. All of the clash were early hip hop fans. Mick Jones deserves an early place in sampling history... IMHO of course

  • Cool, thanks funktuall. Yeah I remember Sammy Davis Jr. doing that sketch and then I heard where he & the producers from "Laugh In" got the idea from Pigmeat. Now I didn't know Pigmeat had a hot joint & B.A.D. II took it from that track. Thanks for the history lesson man as always. Fun & entertaining. Peace.

  • Bill Curtis from Fatback.

  • Hey Funktuall,

I would like to use this drum loop in the song I'm working on. Where can get the loop?

    Dean.

  • Great ep, sweet breaks.

  • "here come the drums" by tricky tee 1986..

anyone into rare 80s hiphop should know about this joint

  • Tricky Tee's joint only takes the phrase melody but NOT the actual drum break featured here.

  • @MPCbeatcreator i was thinking the same thing when i first heard this

  • that's where that break came from. dammmmmnnnn.

  • I love ur videos like this, its so much funner and easier than reading it on Wikipedia or something

    Thx 4 this 1

  • nice find funk. mad props

  • I'm sooo,Glad You posted and are makin' folks aware of "Pigmeat",I tell kids Rapp didn't start in the Bronx in the 70's it was alread here since way back,The 70's Generation were inspired By Pigmeat and Radio D.J's Like Jacko.Keep 'em Coming.P.S. (Radio Dj's) that Why Jamaicans Who Chat(Rapp)Called them selves D.J's and Not M.C's.

  • funky drumbeats!

  • Thats not bad :)

    He is the judge!

  • Nice one funk. The Globe is, hands down, my favorite BAD album. So many good tracks - Can't Wait, Innocent Child, and of course the singles. It just so cohesive. Nice stuff.

  • Chuck Berry was rappin' in the 50's.

  • that's a nice break! PIGMEAT!

  • great shit man never heard of pigmeat marky thanks for that track thats gonna be my ne jam

  • Speaking of the "Rush" single, I though it was lifted from The Who's Baba O' Riley

  • It was. Wait, did you watch the video?

  • Yes I just did...that was what was at the back of my mind just as I was starting it....

  • ah yes, the youtube sin of preorgasmic proclamation. haha

Have you ever heard Angry Young Man by Billy Joel? Great piano work and funky ass prelude too.

  • Nice singing Funk! Cheers bey!

  • Thanks for the education, Judge Funk!

  • ...now I know where People under the stairs got their sample for 'The Cat'.

  • @sheshepoples likewise

    :)

  • Interesting to hear a rhyme from 68 as people say the first rap record was recorded by King Tim III (Fatback) or the Sugarhill gang..

  • Sweet

  • Isn't this also used in Hip Hop Horay?

  • I remember in that old show "Laugh-in" they would say " Here comes the judge" in one of their skits

  • rad

  • Sounds like Werner Muller -bodybuilding's baseline was inspired by Pigmeat Markham

  • Yea my bet is Morris Jennings. probably.. Maurice went on to do so much Jazz after that.. and he never really played on the EWF records... just a guess

  • That was dope. That break was so sweet... it sounds familiar too. Maybe on a Native Tongues (De La Soul most likely), 3rd Bass, Positive K or Pharcyde record... has that late 80s, early 90s upbeat hip hop feel.

  • Chitin circuit.. i think it was and FUUNNKKEEEAAYY beat..crazy

  • It could be Maurice White or Morris Jennings. Both were session drummers for Chess,Checker, and Cadet when the Pigmeat Markham record came out.

  • once again, my man cratenerd. a human fact-checker. thanks!
