@physmer Actually the story is when Doraemon was first created he DID have ears -- but a robot mouse gnawed them off. Ever since, he's had a terrible phobia of mice and has been ostracized by other robot cats because of his lack of ears.

Doraemon's lack of ears also plays a big part in the "Final Doraemon" (a fan-made "final" Doraemon story). You can find an English version of the story on YouTube.

Nobita sees that the dandelion in his terrarium is scared Nobita will throw her away, so Nobita decides to plant her in the backyard and care for her. As he does, he "hears" other plants asking for water and hears the ants tell each other to work hard and not be "lazy like Nobita." Insulted, Nobita does his homework, much to his mother's amazement.

IMO all the film adaptations sucked compared to the manga. Though I'm the kind of person who gets disappointed by every novel/comic adaptation, so maybe it's just me.

As for this particular one, the animation is quite good, but the dubbing is terrible. With this kind of production value they could have went with an original story and some quality voice actors...or with no voice at all if it's too expensive.
