A truly horrible cover of a great record. Demonstrates fully why great musicians and singers were needed to make great records in the 60's . Now anyone who can sort of play and / or sing can waste a lot of time and not come close to the excitement of the original record which was most likely recorded in less than 3 hours............
Are they gonna release this song (as a single or on an album)????????? cos this song rock..... they make it sound so good..... are they gonna make a third album????
Did this dude just say it was the most punk thing he's ever heard? LMFAO! Wow I like some of their songs but just by looking at this vid, I feel a bit guilty for liking them.
Q: We are well-fed, upper middle class kids, we want our MTV, we want to earn a lot of money without showing any kind of personality, we have no sense of humour. Can we cover Egyptian Shumba succesfully?
I don't really understand the strong dislike for it though. Last time I checked, the original song was happy, poppy, silly, and fun and Black Kids didn't leave any of those elements of the original out. I mean look at them, they're having FUN recording it just as I'm sure The Tammys had fun recording the song. People are too quick to hate change. You don't have to like a cover but don't hate it just because it's a cover. Music is not that serious, it's to be enjoyed.
and i'm not sure whether or not i would like their remake. i rather like most punk; it's the story of badasses! and "Black Kids" style seem like they're just that--kids.
i'm not sure they could pull it off and make it sound good. they're too cute. so for them, it has to be really quiet (like a lulaby?!) or sound like little kids making noises.
Egyptian Shumba by the Tammys was released by United Artists Records in the spring of 1964. It's quite popular now as a Northern Soul track at dance clubs in the UK.
It makes the bass use its strange tone area....The strings don't same original in those positions.Reversed.
