I swear, Blackwater Park has got to be one of the most listened-to albums in my collection, along with Ghost Reveries. I just love the mood it sets. Songs like this make you feel like you've been to both Heaven and Hell once they are over. The talents of these men never ceases to amaze me. I wish bands like Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Katatonia, etc. were more popular, but at the same time I'd rather jam to them with people who truly appreciate their work than with unappreciative halfwits.

I don't think they're in the same ballpark as Opeth creatively, but they did a lot for Metal. They don't quite have it like they used to, but I Death Magnetic was a large improvement over St. Anger. I could ask any of my non-Metal loving friends to name a Metal band they know, and they'd for sure say "Metallica".

Just because you listen to a more obscure band such as Opeth (who I think is superior to Metallica too), doesn't automatically mean Metallica is commercial crap. Obscure bands like this are always pushing the boundaries and creating a new sound. Metallica did the same thing in the 80's. Give credit where credit is due.

That's exactly what I told Mikael Åkerfeldt the first time I ever saw them live. I had never heard them before then. My band opened for them that night.  I hung out to hear them and was simply blown away. They've been a huge influence on my music ever since.
