in minute 1 :03 both defence moves must be continuous as one big movement but they have to be remarked as two i dnon't know if anybody here understand what I mean

Personally I have only seen this performed live in front of me twice and I have been doing this kata for three years, and what I can say from it is that: There was way too much bobbing, it looked less like a kata and more like the gentleman performing had knee injuries, if I were scoring this it would be prolly low 7 out 10 sorry
@Dwarfadinn Yeah, I don't understand. Is the bouncing thing just an ITF thing? I had a friend who has a black belt in TKD (I think WTF) and he said the bouncing was completely foreign to him. And to be honest, even though people say it makes everything more powerful, it just looks like a destabilized center of gravity.
@Dwarfadinn in tkd they are called TUL`S not kata, kata is karate, the "bouncing" as you put it is called sine wave and it actually helps with generating power as you are dropping your mass into the technique aswell, do you train on your own?? i ask as if you have been performing ge-baek for 3 years then surely you must have seen others do the pattern, out of interest what martial art do you do and in what organization
You have to hold the first Turning Kick for half a second to show off your technique and the Reverse Knife Hand to the Low Knife Hand Guarding blocks is continuous
i personally attended a seminar by Grandmaster Choi Jung-Hwa and he said that holding any kick is technically incorrect due to impracticality (can't hold a kick when defending yourself, they'll grab it and rip your groin in two), though Grandmaster Choi is old school of course.
i personally hold every side kick, just because it looks nice. turning kicks in patterns look better when snapped back in my humble opinion~
I personaly asked Master Stanley and Master Cariati (Not good at spelling his name) and they both trained under General Choi. Master Cariati traveled with General Choi when he was still alive.
They said for patterns - which is a demonstration of technique - that you hold the kicks for half a second, just barely any time to show off balance and control :O
But, I'm ICTF the branch of ITF that broke of when Grandmaster Choi decided to change things.
yes no one likes things being changed. apparently its going back to how it should be though, anything thats in the first published taekwondo encyclopedia is correct
so you're saying, that holding kicks is the way it originally was then was changed to out fast and in fast?
i'm not sure. though i lock out every side kick hard and hold it for 2 seconds..2.5 seconds..far too long haha, but, good for strengthening, and also shows off balance and control of course
I don't mean a large length of time like 2 seconds :S
I meant a fraction of a second to show off balance and control, alot of that is for judging. It makes the judges jobs easier. It looks nicer in my opinion as well ;P
well im talking about with perfect technique, i've never seen a whitebelt throw a technically correct side kick lock it out straight and hold it for 2 seconds with a high punch from bending ready stance without stumbling..is what im saying ^^
yes, ITF under the presidency of Grandmaster Choi Jung Hwa
i haven't even heard that there's a tournament in Puerto Rico, our main focus just now is world championships in Korea next year, focusing on that very early, and smaller comps but thats the main focus. you going to that one next year?

no because the turning kick in this pattern has to be snapped
xouxou35 2 years ago
No, all turning kicks that I can think of you hold... the only exception I can think of is the dodging turning kick in Ge-Baek
TeaBagginMunkees 2 years ago
there is also the turning kicks in hwa-rang
xouxou35 2 years ago
You hold those as well, the only kick you don't hold is a front SNAP kick. :S

but holding a kick for a fraction of a second doesnt require much balance or control at all, any whitebelt could probably do that
h0rangi 2 years ago
I disagree.....
But, w/e it's a matter of opinion.
Holding it for 2 seconds kills the flow of the pattern in my opinion :O
But I respect your thoughts ^^
TeaBagginMunkees 2 years ago
but it does demonstrate balance and strength, no? :)
h0rangi 2 years ago
Yes, but I have to say anyone could do that to....
;P
Lol, so man. You do ITF correct? Are you going to the Puerto Rico Tournament? :O

Haven't heard of one in Korea D:
The big ones I know of are England and China.
Hmm.. I guess we're different orginizations....
I'm in the ICTF and you're in the ITF... I just thought maybe they would both go to the Puerto Rico Tourny....
Oh well ^^
