@killcarmine For starters, it encourages and rewards cooperation. You don't compete against other players for mobs or loot. It doesn't come with a subscription fee. You can move between servers. It doesn't worship the holy trinity of classes.

i only watched a little bit of the movie. can any tell me if you have to choose standard characters for PVP or do you get to use your main character? it looks as if you have to pick a race and such and start off fresh. I'd rather if i can use the character that i use all the time, that I've worked on developing, not one that has base stats...

@EnchantedMagna It will be your character, but it will have base stats. In these battlegrounds/arenas you can only use the same equipment as everybody else, so both teams are on even playing field, only skill matters. Think LoL if everybody had all the runes and lvl 30 from the get go.

Stuck between elementalist, necromancer and ranger. They all have good things and also bad. Necromancers, do they have any spells or weapons that woud be good on close-combat? And rangers, pretty much the same, they have ranged weapons but what about close-combat. And there seem to be so many elementalists on betas.

Just like how WvW content can provide buffs to PvE players I hope that PvE players can somehow earn buffs for WvW players. Having beneficial responsibilities go both ways will encourage a more mutual and cooperative community.

people who dont like to PVP cant still help out in PVP, for instance, there are "lesser" races dotted around the place such as Dredge, these Dredge are being attacked by Harpies, PVE players can kill the Harpies and the Dredge will actually help defend bases and so on for a while afterwards.

so even people who are totally against PVP can still contribute to PVP through PVE

You can't faceroll your way through pvp with gear alone. I've seen warlocks with full cata, cunning of the cruel, and legendary staff stuck at the 1700s bracket. I've hit 2k on an alt rogue that was 85 for a week having only the cataclysm shoulders and next to no enchants. Gear gives you an edge sure, but skill>gear for the most part and the real issue is certain comps dominating the brackets ( lol @ RLS).

However, I'm still going to drop WoW for GW2 since it will be far more balanced.

You know what I've noticed between SWTOR and Guild Wars 2? With SWTOR, Bioware showed NO gameplay in ANY of their trailers, whereas the developers of Guild Wars 2 have shown gameplay in ALL of their trailers. This tells me that Bioware was possibly trying to hide the gameplay / graphics from gamers, while the makers of Guild Wars 2 wanted to show how much work has actually gone into the game.

Did I mention that I'm VERY impressed at the look of this game? I can't wait till its release!

Only thing that will definitely drag me away from Guild Wars 2 is that you get special gear and max lvl when you enter any PvP match. So leveling and gearing up is useless if you're into PvP game..

This game isn't designed in such a way that your gear wins the battle for you. It's more action oriented, so a player's individual skill with their character/build is what determines your success, not the "uber sword of auto-killing" you farmed for out in the PvE world.

@XBouttier You're mostly correct. In structured PvP (shown in this video) you're automatically max level, with all weapons, skills, armors, etc.. unlocked, so everyone is on an even footing and skill makes the difference in battle.

In WvWvW (open world PvP) you bring your own gear and skills and whatnot, so they will play more of a role, but ArenaNet says there will be an easy to reach power plateau, so most players at level 80 will be relatively close in power as well. Again, skill wins.
