I think this was the first and only episode of the show that I watched. I was under 10 at the time, and I had already read The Disappearing Floor (and several others in the series). When the UFO appeared, I thought, "Well, that's not exactly accurate now, is it?" They couldn't fool children back in those days. Actually, not much American drama, action and adventure TV from the '70s and '80s still stands up today. British children's shows from the era (e.g. Famous Five) now look more serious.
Too bad camera phones hadn't been invented during this series' run. The boys could have used them to photograph the UFO and talk to their dad instead of using cameras and walkie-talkies.
I wanted to play Joe Hardy in the books, so I envied Shaun Cassidy. I still think this version of the Hardys is too wimpy compared to the books. It's more like the Mickey Mouse Club with Tim Considine and Tommy Kirk.
This is still my favorite adventure. In 1977, I thought that holograms were the future. How much I was off! I never have thought of the internet, let alone anything else so futuristic.
I bought this series, just to see the translation into Spanish and French! I am very interested in foreign languages.
Nonetheless, I'd love to have played Joe Hardy. I really identify with the character, unlike Shaun Cassidy.
i had no idea this was a show. read all the books as a kid back in the 80's.

I think Cassidy plays Joe quite well. Atleast the Joe that was in the Original series before the Casefiles.
