The book's different. Jack and the others get to Annapolis where Sean and his gang are taken out by the marines and naval support after a firefight on the docks. Sean is arrested, and is executed in a later book.

This movie's much different than the book. In the book, Sean's motive for trying to kill Ryan is not for revenge but because Ryan was spreading word against the IRA. Also, Ryan and the others escape in a boat to Annapolis, where the USMC and IRA have a shootout. Sean Miller survives and is incarcerated.
