No, the original one was from AKL to SYD. Then the second year they did that as well as SFO-SYD. I think the States one is a one-off.

The first time this was done it was SFO-Sydney, right? Did Air New Zealand decide to shift this to medium haul (4 hours), and will it every come back to the States? This is pretty awesome and the U.S. carriers would *never* do anything like this. Come back to SFO/LAX!
