Moffat wrote this story likely knowing he was going to take over from RTD and wanted to pre-start his story arc with River Song. But I don't think he knew that DT was leaving at the time because he wrote it as if DT's doctor was supposed to have had one more encounter with her before he regenerated, but we never saw it.

@martha368 fyi it is not exactly backwards. You have to actually begin with "The impossible Astronaut", following her life as a little girl. Then go to "Let's kill hitler". Then go to "closing time/wedding of river song". Then "Impossible Astronaut/Day of the moon" Then "Pandorica Opens/Big Bang" Then the angels episode. Between that and the library episode, there is still one more adventure to come, the singing towers. So we have to wait for that episode.

I just can't help to think that somehow "The silent" have something to do with this episode. I know how the whole two parter pans out and stuff... but i find it a bit of a coincedence that Moffat wrote this story and that "Silence" is mentioned in the episode title. Probably not but it would be a neat plot point if some kind of connection from series 6 is made eh?
