  • I think of this song when im alone..does that make sense?

  • these guys were ahead of their time

  • This song is all about Ian and the DC hardcore movement, you fools need to recognize, this whole album is about the movement, it has been considered for the library of congress. If you

were there; PBC, 25th Street Beach club, I would listen to you, Fugazi, whatever. Earn your ink, the rest of you you are slaves. Peace out.. VBHC for life..

  • It's strange, growing up you thought the music your parents listened to was lame. But you never thought you'd end up the parent and your kids saying that the music you listen to is lame. e.g sonic youth-teenage riot.

  • Just the song? Well, that's really all you'll ever need. :D

  • Hmm, nope... I don't like this.

  • Lol @ pavement

  • Just the song? As if you need anything else...

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I wish we could still have music like this, but at least we'll always be able to go back to the classics.

  • I can really see the Pavement influence on this piece.

  • @cwaimtehrians this song is before pavement i hope you're just trolling

  • this song is...fucking....whoooa!!

  • i agree with juno they suck

  • I remember in like grade 7, all this shit was just ending, few years after Cobain's death. I wasn't into music back then, at 11 and 12 years old, but i remember the "cool" kids always listening to this kinda stuff, SY, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and White Zombie and stuff. Funny thing is, they weren't even into the stuff for real reasons! Back then, no internet, just MTV and radio selling this stuff. The bands were legit - the fans weren't. Found out later I was the actual audience it's for!

  • related to the top comments* A kid in my class back in highschool used to wear a Goo shirt, so i was like FUCK YEA! SONIC YOUTH IS THE SHIT! only to be let down with a "What, is that a band?" I just laughed, told the guy to go check 'em out; i can't give SY justice using only words.

  • Everybodys talkin bout the stormy weather

whats a man to do but work out whether its true!

  • If you listen to the lyrics of this song closely a lot of it eerily describes the way things are in this country right now. Sonic Youth must have been psychic, because it's like they saw the future and it's almost scary how right they were. Maybe if more people had listened to this album we wouldn't be a 'Daydream Nation'

  • I find it sad how when I type in the word "teenage" "teenage Dream" by Katy Perry shows up instead of this song. SMH

  • @johndunn2015 "teen age" , but ya u right

  • This song sucks playing on Rock Band xD

  • the start to this song still makes me close my eyes and love it

  • @Amnesiac103 keep listening to Take That or JLS or whatever music you listen too then and enjoy!

  • @RuskoVEVO congratulations, you've 'bin awarded the biggest cunt on youtube award

  • @Xtalith "Rusko has a VEVO?" *scrolls down* "Ohhhh"

  • @Xtalith obvious troll is way too obvious.

  • @RuskoVEVO GTFO

  • @RuskoVEVO then dont listen to it dumbass

  • @RuskoVEVO nice troll 10/10

  • @RuskoVEVO Aw mate I bet you never even made it to the drop, such a fucking dumb fuck.

  • @RuskoVEVO troll acount

  • Love this song.

  • The Wonder

    Hyperstation

    Eliminator Jr.

is the best thing I have ever heard except from Television

  • I love how serious that crowd looks xD on guy crossing his arms? So perfect.

  • man tha 90's were special.

  • @GEEFLEXZ

yup. no doubt about it. best music era imo.

but i believe this album came out in the 80's. that time has some great underground music.

  • what a cool band

  • Meh

  • :megusta:

  • These guys broke up, Kim and Thurston divorced, I just found out, got pissed, and came here, I dedicate this song to my ex, and the members of the band. Your music will live on.

  • (''---'') Me gusta

  • Love this kind of music, anyone know the genre? Alternative?

  • @DrkAllanon Yeah, alternative rock, their style changes quite a lot over their career but thats a pretty good approximation they have Punk and indie vibes too

  • these opening chords caused such a flashback for me.

  • Beast description

  • I heard this song live about 20 years ago in DC when I was in college.

So, I'm 20 years older, and I haven't outgrown this song.

This song is beautiful, and in my humble opinion Sonic Youth has made music that stands the test of time.

  • Just THE song.

  • this incredible band inspired Angelspit. good music leads to good music leads to good music. keep the fire alive. innovate, and rebel.

  • My funeral song..

  • There is just something intelligent about this band.

  • It's sad when out of everyone i know. I'm the only one who knows about this band. They haven't lived yet until they've heard this band i think

  • this is a truly great band. this is the kind of song where if i'm in a car with people i barely know and they tell me to put some music on, this is what i put on. everyone's feeling this shit. hell yeah.

  • It sucks being the only kid in my high school who likes, or even knowing who Sonic Youth is.

  • Comment removed

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck I know how you feel my favorite bands are Depeche mode, Sonic youth, The Cure, Beck and David Bowie. Most of my classmates haven't heard of any of them

  • y does that suck? that means u r UNIQUE dude b happy u have the ability 2 think 4 urself MOST ppl have no idea how 2

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck Join the club. Not even that, but ALL my teachers (well, the young ones that just came out of college) don't know them either. But its okay, because its good knowing you are the only one who knows this band instead of a bunch of "wannabe's/sheep" start listening to the same thing.

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck sucks being nearly 50 and loving Sonic Youth music and all kinds of punk while people my age listen to crap! Least my kids appreciate my music!

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck it sucks being the only kid in my middle school who knows sonic youth

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck Sucks that you think that "sucks" being the only one that know what is Sonic Youth in the school, because most of kids in the school are shit, believe me.

  • @mili1072 No, i only know one other kid who listens to bands i like, (scratch acid, dinosaur jr, glazed baby, jesus lizard etc) and i play the drums he plays guitar and we have no one els. Its either you like rap or death metal, or you're emo, i still don't know what emos listen to. I see what you mean, but it doesn't mean the whole school and all its asshats have to agree with you a select few would is nice.

  • @ItsNotColdEnough Oh yes! You're so right I like rap, emo music, for that I'm here listening SY pffffff don't have sense what you're saying.

And I said MOST OF KIDS, not "whole".

  • @mili1072 I didn't say you can't like multiple genres, but in most cases its either all rap, all metal, or all emo. I also didn't say you were any of those people, i just said its nice to have others to play music with is all.

  • @mili1072 hahahaha SO TRUE!! xD

  • @mili1072 kids are shit? Nah, kids at my school are hilarious

  • @mili1072 well aren't you the cultured one

  • @mili1072 Marry me.

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck same story here man

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck you are such a unique snowflake

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck

Must suck to be in high school without anyone knowing anything about music.. i'm in high school, but i know two guys in my year that know what's awesome, and one older guy. Kinda love it xD

  • @DaCUBSstillSuck ya bro. but your a cool kid

  • one of the greatest songs of all time!

  • I've read on the net that Kim and Thurston are ending their relationship... Is that true?

  • @kaisamsa Simple answer: it's true

  • @kaisamsa Sadly true.

  • Paul Rodriguez !

  • fun to play the drums of ths song, damn i love the 80s

  • @MetalDrummer776 90s...

  • @wolfboylikesmetal daydream nation came out in 1988...

  • everytime i eat pizza i listen to this song, it's incredible

  • One of the best bands ever.

  • trickd my friend into thinking this was pavement...damn what a newb

  • @x39000 I could see that happening, but he's still a noob

  • @x39000 best comment ive ever seen!

  • @x39000 lol. Cant believe it. Pavement and Sonic Youth are both pretty important, but their styles of indie rock are definetely different.

  • @x39000 The only thing that proves is that you are a fucking nerd.

  • @youhavegeniusshins Fuck you, you fucker

  • @MrMrLemons That was clever.

  • @youhavegeniusshins What's wrong with nerds? They run the world and apparently have good taste in music. I'd rather be a nerd than whatever you are :)

  • @bitsofmusic I never said anything was wrong with being a nerd. Go away. Thanks.

  • @youhavegeniusshins "The only thing that proves is that you are a fucking nerd." - youhavegeniusshins. not exactly a nerd friendly comment...Maybe you are confused about what profane words are and how they affect people's perception of a sentence...Oh well. Goodbye.

  • @bitsofmusic Have a good long cry about it. I'm sorry you were born with a baby dick . God bless.

  • @x39000

Hey, at least "he" thought he had good taste . . . pavement is a good band and so is Sonic Youth.

  • @x39000 lol rlly cause pavements singer is shit and thurston is a fucking god

  • @cowboydanisoutofgas Thurston is fantastic, but don't go hating on Mr. Malkmus...

  • Fuck your jonas brothers and your fallout boys

  • used to have this on vinyl...sold it 4 beer money. dickhead...

  • I still have it - Pure gold

  • my fav song From SONIC YOUTH

  • Wow, what a great crowd...

  • kim gordon had one of the easiest bass gigs. don't fuck up the other two guitarists rhythm

  • This came out in 1988...this was light years away from anything mainstream at the time. Kudos for them for having a vision and a sound that was unique

Sonic Youth was never popular or radio friendly but had a cult following and influenced many other bands so I will always resoect them as artist

With that said, I find MOST of their music boring, too experimental and dischordant

  • @sensationaldenny Hehe, I agree with all of that, except for the not liking it part. It's nice that you can appreciate what Sonic Youth have done, even though you are not a fan :)

  • If you're going to call something hipster, try looking for something that's actually obscure.

  • amzing

  • @thebitterend90 There is no such thing as obscurity anymore. Hipsters listen to Arcade Fire, Animal Collective and worship The Smiths and Joy Division. The fact that hipsters only listen to obscure music is a myth and a lie. In fact, you ask a hipster who wrote Blank Generation or who came previous to The Velvet Underground, they'd stare at you with an empty facial expression.

  • @GrungeRockabilly I just wrote "amazing". anyway I'm not a hipster. and I know well the rock music, but we are on youtube and I can't prove this. bye

  • @thebitterend90 I may have replied to the wrong guy :L

  • @GrungeRockabilly ok! no problem ;)

  • @GrungeRockabilly i think that you mean there is no such thing as hipster anymore by your statement, because most of the bands i listen to are only known to a couple thousand people throughout the 7,000,000,000 on the planet. i think, when compared to mainstream music, that's sort of obscure, dude. you could argue this subjective point all you want, but i don't think you're ENTIRELY right. though i do believe you possess a valid point somewhere in that angsty mishmash.

  • @guardianlink12345 Oh no, there are hipsters. But how can anything be obscure when an entire group of people listen to and proudly flaunt supposedly obscure bands?

  • Sonic Youth has always been a music snob's first choice. I mean no one sound like them. They r intelligent and almost parented crazy artists that couldn't handle a life without drugs. My all time favorite. I like that I know hanging out with Thurston and kim or Lee would b chill. They just seem like interesting people. The fact that they never sold out, copied other people, and experimented with sounds makes them actually original.

  • @TheSuzend They are the Pink Floyd of alternative rock, so to speak.

  • homerpalooza

  • Chingonsisimo La Juventud Sonica !!!! Sonic Youth !!!

  • This song is enough to gey high, but if u hear it high the trip will be a lot heavier

  • Ohmanohmanohmanohman I saw Thurston Moore today.

  • @Imptheshrimp Where did you Thurston Moore?

  • @mrtictacish This Folk Fest that I was volunteering at.

  • This song makes me feel something, it gives me memories of summer :)

  • this is not hipster music

  • I had no idea this is what Sonic Youth sounded like. God their vocals are so poorly mixed, but i love those drums.

  • omg the intro is soooo magical..well i dont mean to sound weird, its just sooooooooooooooo amazing. i love sonic youth!!!

  • the intro makes my ears cum everytime!!!!

  • Hipster national anthem

  • @takadi I agree

  • @takadi no it's not, there's inspiring music and uninspiring music. This is of the former group, forget about trying to market this as a 'hipster' song, it's just beautiful music and by saying its hipster deters people from ever hearing this masterpiece because they don't want to look pretentious

  • @takadi omg shut up plz

  • @takadi :(

  • spirit desire

  • soooooooo we're talking about porn here? I kid no one not, ive been with the internet for quite the whiles and NEVER has someone been in a debate about porn over a rock song.

  • yeah buena la cancion tzzzz

  • the intro is what magic would sound like.

  • the intro is what make to work this song!!!

  • @skeetshooter99 its also a massive form of corporate advertising industry (im guessing you realise whats fucked up about consumerism and advertising if you're on a sonic youth video), and a lot of people who make the videos don't enjoy it, they just want to make money, which is wrong because you should do what makes you happy instead of selling your body for sex. you cant blame people for watching it though, its natural and hard to resist. blame the fucking government for keeping the videos

  • @skeetshooter99 you were right i shouldnt have acted like that, im sorry. it just annoys me that pornography has ruined the perception of sex being a form of love for a lot of people. i dont think they realise how many people regret making the videos later on in life when they become devoted to a person and don't want other people masturbating other them having sex because they want to share that with the love of their life, but its too late because they've already made the video.

  • it's getting quite in my silly head/ it takes a teenage riot to get me out of bed right now... how true.

  • hey trolls, don't say the word hipster in the presence of this song. Congress voted to keep this entire album in the national library because of its historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance. no irony there, its just good music.

  • That guy on the right looks like a typical hipster from Bushwick.

  • Disap-pie-nted

  • cant wait for them to come to Buenos aires

  • @kingofcarrotflowers4 thumbs up for acount name ! :P

  • @B1LlYPL6C380 Same here, same here...

  • Thought it was a live performance, but shit it's all good.

  • I've gotten into Sonic Youth far too late...

  • @theelusivemonty

Much better late than never. Plus you get to hear "Tuff Gnarl" for the first time now, Jesus I envy you..

  • @theelusivemonty

Me too man. I can't believe how long it took me to get an album by these guys. Rest assured i'm getting 'em all!

  • @theelusivemonty yeah it sucks we cant go to the classic gigs but fuck it, they're still active so what the hell

  • @theelusivemonty no you haven't. I didn't get into them until like 2004, and they'd already been making music for two decades at that point. Never too late to like a kickass band.

  • @theelusivemonty Its never too late

  • @theelusivemonty Its never to late to get into a good band mate

  • @theelusivemonty Lol, same.

I only ever got into them in the first place because The Lord Wikipedia cited them as one of Placebo's influences. :L

  • @theelusivemonty That's an amazing thing. You can enjoy it till eternity!

  • @theelusivemonty

It has been two months, how far have you gotten since? Have you gotten into, Evol, Sister, Goo . . . etc?

  • @theelusivemonty Hey man, the only thing that matters is that you've gotten into them. Embrace the music! :D

  • @theelusivemonty It's never too late to get into them :)

  • Vevo video suck.

    31 people wont fall

  • i was about to click vevo then i was like heeeeeeeeeeeel no

so im pretty sure everyone else did that

    which explains the views

  • This song is very, very nicely written. I really like the way its produced too

  • this makes me happppppyyyy :) like im on LSD :)

  • Intro is thee best gives me good vibes.

  • the intro is hella tripped out!
