  • that's awesome!

  • vote obama

  • White assed mf's have always voted for someone because they are white. All of the white women are voting for that lying crooked Hillary because she has a vagina,or does she?

  • sorry but white people have voted for white people because they were no blacks. dont instantly assume that whites are out to get u.

  • this IS not the first time we had to march at PVU.while attending in the late 80s/90s rep. attorney general of waller county was trying to make some students an example but crying voter regist.fraud (totally untrue) because we are the voting force in those 3 lil towns PV,waller,hempstead...but we marched the students werent charged we were on CNN...lol..yrs later the same guy did the same crap,on a different generation, same result, they marched, dropped charges,STATE attorney general allow votes

  • I LOVE THIS!!

    P

    V

    U

  • who you votin for?

    OBAMA!!!

  • Voting for someone for the sole reason that they are black makes you an idiot who should have the right to vote removed as to prevent a more retarded government than the one already in place at present.

  • a "more retarded government" may not be possible

  • I would not bet on it.

  • Drolkin: I would assume you feel the same way about whites who would never vote for anyone that was not white, and female voters would vote for a woman simply because she was a woman?

  • Just a quick point - these students were not marching on behalf of Obama - they were simply marching to vote, for whichever candidate they wanted. Of course some were voting Obama, but others were NOT. I'm incredibly moved and impressed by their passion to make sure their votes were counted - thanks PVU students!

  • 90% of the croud was black. BLACKS FOR OBAMA!!

  • Thanks for pointing that out, throughout they are also chanting P V U.

Texas has an open primary so Democrats and Republicans can cross over and vote in either party's primary if they so wish. Both are on March 4 this year. People from this demonstration took part in early voting. I was merely observing that it is statistically possible there were non-Obama supporters and that there may even be a McCain supporter amongst them. :)

  • This is inspiring. They are your democratic rights, republican or democrat, so don't let anybody stop you!

  • Several other groups also marched for Obama.

    Texas is in the bag.

  • At 33 seconds, they are clearly chanting Obama's name.

  • this is f-ing awesome! rock on A&M

  • I LOVE it!! Thanks so much for the video.

  • singedrac - could be the chant they were chanting ....

    "Barack" "O B A M A!"

  • i live in texas.....this is a lot of people.....

  • Wow. Just wow.....

  • These are Texas students who walked seven miles together in order to vote early for Senator Obama in the Democratic Presidential primary election.

  • I heard an interview with one of the students. They were not marching for Obama, as other posters have mentioned, they were marching against voter suppression. This is actually a problem for us all no matter our candidate or party. Very interesting that so many posters associate these students with Obama, Statistically, there likely some McCain supporters in this wonderful group.

  • there are

  • The youth vote has been huge this year largely as a part of the Obama campaign's strategy to catalyze actions such as this. The main thrust of this march is against disenfranchisement, but there is clearly a lot of related Obama support in there. I don't know how you could possibly miss all the signs and chanting of O-BA-MA at 0:33.

As for McCain, these students are marching to vote (early) in the Democratic primary are they not? McCain is no democrat.

  • Thanks for pointing that out, throughout they are also chanting P V U.

  • Could someone please explain where all of these people were going? Thanks!

  • Could be a sign that the House that Tom DeLay and Karl Rove built has a rotten foundation.

  • I want to get down there and shake each and every one of those guys by the hand. Absolutely awesome.

  • Great job! People Power 2008.

  • That kind of unity and determination is dope!

    YES WE CAN!

  • this is awesome

  • Wow

    Obama 08

  • Best anti-gerrymandering protest I've ever seen.

  • I'm all teary eyed.

This is the power of the movement.

    Obama 08!

  • AMAZING- OBAMA 08!

  • Must have brought a tear to that old viagra poon hound's eye!

  • nice job getting the word out!

  • great, great job! I sent this youtube link to a friend of mine in France. He startled to find out that American people are standing up for their own rights

  • Dear lord! rioters!! get the water cannons!!

  • LMAO

    Obama/????? 2008!

  • You should "Bible it?" The Bible is opposed to people voting? I always sort of thought the Bible was opposed to killing and stuff but not voting. I guess I will have to Bible it to see what kind of sin voting is.

  • Voting must be what they did in Gomorrah.

  • Republicans must hate to see this.

  • yeah because republicans free'd the slaves and gave them rights... yup republicans should be ashamed.

  • Whoop!

    RP..08

  • I see racism is still alive in the government subtly disenfranchising students.

  • This video of students in Texas gives me hope for a better future.

  • Powerful and inspiring. Thank you all.

  • A beautiful moment. Waller County is a place full of racism and a history of disenfranchisement. Bless these students for taking a stand and making themselves heard loud and clear.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you to every single one of you who marched. Thank you for exercising your right to vote in a public way. Thank you for marching in resistance to political disenfranchisement (most schools I KNOW have a polling place ON CAMPUS). You are an inspiration!

  • very cool :o) Obama 08!

  • This is way cool. Thanks for the video. Nice work taking it from the overpass.

  • thanks i try to giv diff looks

  • I hope this video inspires everybody to make whatever sacrifice is necessary in their personal life to vote and participate

  • Civil disobedience is beautiful. Good job!

  • Good on you!

  • you are terribly ignorant. Do you practice at it or does it just come naturally?

  • Defeats ignorance, know the historical facts. There were white pageants and magazines that excluded blacks, and whites could apply for funds which blacks could not receive. So blacks got their own pageants, magainzes, & college funds! And pride, ahistory os slavery, jim crow lynchings, & segregation held that there was nothing blacks could feel pride of, so black pride is in direct response to this history of racism. Balance will come when we have retified these wrongs.

  • INSPIRATIONAL!!!

  • wonder if it was hard to merge onto the highway?

  • Texas Republicans have worked overtime to make it harder for key Democratic voting groups to vote and be represented fairly. The redistricting games they've played are infamous. And for the Prairie View A&M University precincts, they put the early-polling place more than seven miles from the school.

So what did the students in this video do? They shut down the highway as they marched seven miles to cast their votes on the first day of early voting.

  • looks like those "ethical and moral" republicans are getting a little scared...gotta admit, makes me giggle.

  • Good job!

  • Way to go Prairie View students!! Democracy on the march

  • inspiring! thank you for posting this.

  • Wow, that is downright amazing. I am so proud of those kids. MARCH ON!

  • I followed the news on the redistricting, so I'm happy to see the People responding. Agree or disagree, this is America (and I, for one, would trade idling my car behind people like this over the miles of unattended, single-lane construction zones I come across traveling cross-country).

  • Dang..I graduated from Texas State University and recalled them having a place to vote right on campus. March on my fellow citizens.

To be honest with ya, I had to call the Bexar county Texas voting place three times for them to mail me an absentee democratic ballot for Texas. If I don't see the ballot in my mail box on Monday, I'm suing. I got evidence that show's i sent my request on time.

    Who ya rooting for...OBAMA !!!!!

  • who says that kids dont vote? They are obviously lying!

  • March on!

  • you all are inspiring!!! soul power will always overcome!

  • VOTE EARLY FOR OBAMA.

    Then Caucus on March 4th.

    Texas is OURS.

  • This is what America is all about!!!!!!!

The revolution will NOT be televised.

  • I love these young people. Don't let the cynics keep you away from voting - it matters and you matter and you are awesome!

  • Yeah, Jack Abramoff to the rescue baby!!!

  • Like Sweden, England, France, etc... countries whose economies are currently doing better than Americas.

  • I live in England, and we're not in recession right now, thanks.

  • Neither are we. You need two consecutive quarters of decline to be in a recession. We have had one quarter of slowed growth.

  • Oh, now I feel a whole lot better!!

  • Hmmmm...

    Sky-rocketing home foreclosures

    $9 Trillion deficit

Borrowing from Chinese to buy oil from Saudis

    Rising Unemployment

    Bankruptcies Rapidly Rising

    Millions of uninsured or under-insured

Yep, you're right. Everything is great!

  • WOW!! HOLY CRAP!!!!

  • !El Pueblo, unito, jamás será vencido!

"We shall overcome, We shall overcome, We shall overcome, someday. Deep in my heart, I still believe that we shall overcome someday"

We'll walk hand in hand, We'll walk hand in hand, We'll walk hand in hand, today, ...

We are not afraid, We are not afraid, We are not afraid, today... Deep in my heart, I do believe that we are not afraid today.

    ----

Peace Abraham, Martin and John. It takes time; the seed the founder fathers planted grows

  • WOW!

  • Hell yeah! Love it.

  • This is amazing. Thank you! It is glad to see people CARING again about our country. It gives me hope.

  • This is indeed a rebirth of democracy.

  • This is fantastic and inspiring. Way to go.

  • this is great. it is little things like this that still give me hope for the future.

  • Just fantastic. Thank you PVU!

  • hey i get pulled over, stared at and ove questioned because i'm black

  • You must be an idiot yourself if you don't realize the significance of this. Young people are getting out to vote in numbers like never before! It is amazing.

  • I was talking about wetweasel56 actually :)

  • Hey look: another person who thinks that if he says something offensive it gives him instant cool.

    it doesn't

  • Who said they're voting for Obama?

  • As long as there are people like this, proud, strong, and working together, I have hope for my home state.

  • AWSOME

  • Thanks PVU!!!

May millions of Americans follow your example!!

The only way to prevent a THIRD rigged election is to overwhelm the polls with a solid victory for OBAMA!!

And all these wingnuts who have been foaming at the mouth that Michelle should leave the country can do so themselves if they don't like it!!

    VOTE VOTE VOTE

    MARCH MARCH MARCH!!

  • So if Ron Paul were to abolish the IRS, how would he keep the lights on in the White House?

  • He would use gold to power the light house. That and the souls of IRS audit agents.

  • The Whitehouse would be a cardboard box, and he would deliver speeches in a good will uniform.

  • You need a lesson in economics. One third of the federal budget comes from income tax. What Ron Paul would do is close all the military bases that we have in other nations. That 1 Trillion cost would be enough to cover the loss in money from abolishing the income tax. And no worry about the light bill.

  • unite or die!

  • Vote for the Instant Karma Party right now!

  • Goddamn but I love Texas Democrats :)

  • Man, I love them too! Tough stuff, is what they are.

  • Yeah, it takes real courage to be an 'out and proud' Democrat in Texas.....that's why so many Texas Democrats are so fiery and outspoken.

Ann Richards comes to mind, and holy cow, would she be proud and amazed today.

  • This video nearly made me cry. I am so proud of our country right now.

  • You sound like Michelle Obama, haha!!!

  • Uncle Frank must be turning in his grave to have a fan like you using his name. What's so funny about finally having something to be proud about the USA after decadess of shameful bombing (Bosnia, Panama, Iraq), lying (IranContra, El Salvador, IRAQ), cheating (Monica, rigged elections) and stealing (Enron, S&L Scandal, IRAQ). I'd rather sound like Michelle Obama--and I too am proud of my country for the first time in a LONG time--than come off like a kool-aid swilling ignoramus.

  • I love this video, it's so inspiring!

  • Am I hearing that chant right?

    "Who are we voting for?"

    "O ... BA ... MA!!!"

    This is amazing!

    YES WE CAN!!!

  • I think they're chanting "P! V! U!"

  • Change is coming to America. Republicans, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out of Washington for the next twenty years. No immunity for Telcos, Bush dog democrats we are watching you. You will know us at the ballot box.

  • You do realize that there is NO way that Ron Paul can get the republican nomination now right? It's simple math.

And this, the mere fact that Obama is motivating SO many people to vote and to do it besides their obvious oppression. That's change. Obama is not the change that we are looking for. We are. Yes We Can.

  • Ron Paul is last week's news. Get over it.

  • Let me guess. Ron Paul supporter?

You'd rather have a racist, fundamentalist Christian neo-Confederate who published hate speech for over 20 years, and who wants to disband public services and legalize ALL guns?

You want a candidate that will allow states to take away womens' rights?

You want a candidate that would allow creationism in public school science classes?

Ron Paul is a nutcase. He won't even get nominated. Go away.

  • I think someone needs their meds.

  • March on brothers and sisters!

  • i have tears in my eyes watching this.

  • The kids have surely waken up. I am so proud of them.

  • Wow, just awesome.

As Thom Hartmann says: "Democracy begins with you. Activism begins with you. Tag! You're it!"

  • It's people like this that make me proud to be part of the "youth vote." Loud and proud, guys- keep it up.

  • I'm forty-two tomorrow, and this video makes ME feel young again! Keep it up, and don't let ANYBODY get away with saying that young people don't care.

  • Awesome! Makes me feel young again, too.

  • I am so proud of the young people fighting for their rights! I have been politically active for years and was losing hope that the American people would rise to the occasion. Thank you for restoring my faith in the people.

  • I wish the MSM would pick up this story

  • you students, and the teachers and administrators and parents who supported you, give me hope for our country, all they way here in Tokyo. Thank you.

  • This gave me chills

  • Wicked awesome.

  • These students are awesome. It's inspiring to see people standing up (and walking 7 miles) for their right to vote. And it's a damn shame that voter suppression tactics are still being used to disenfranchise black voters. We need a president who will make sure the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is fully enforced in Republican-controlled states like Texas. And Florida, where thousands of legitimate black voters were illegally purged from the voting rolls by Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush back in 2000.

  • Damn right.

  • Whatever it is, America is awakening in a great way and being patriotic about it,atleast its not a call for a war but a peaceful disgust with their government."i feel change in the air"(Ted Kennedy) i feel it too!

  • I think the bigger issue is that there was originally 6 or 7 locations available to cast an early vote within the county and the county officials chose close most of them citing 'finance issues'...smh

According to reports there has been a history of voting issues in this county. The federal gov't had to step in to get some additional spots to be reopened.

  • This is awesome

  • This is AWESOME ! I LOVE how the American people are coming alive in this election!

  • This is what you call symbolism. There are only two polling places in the entire county and they're in one town. Apparently, this county has tried disenfranchising students for years and these kids aren't going to let them get away with it!

  • You are repeating yourself, I'm reporting this as spam.

  • To give you something to think about; I am a graduate of that university and I can tell you a couple of interesting things about the area. 1. In the town of Hempstead, there is an old lynching tree that the city paved around, they didn't cut it down. 2. Many of the buildings in Hempstead and Waller still have old "colored" entrance doors. The doors have been bricked over, but the signs remain. That has always been a suppressive county and removing polls where Black people are is typical.

  • oops, didn't mean to give that a thumbs down, my mouse burped.

  • maybe its sick!

  • Way to stand up for your right to vote. There is a long history of suppressing the vote in that county and these students are here to say enough is enough. They are right, this is 2008!!!

  • sheila4conrad

    "Yes We Can"

Don't give up. We are proud of you here in Chicago. Do what you have to do.

  • Seeing this from chicago, I'm so proud that a neighbor of mine is inspiring you guys in this way!

  • God Bless Y'all!!

  • whatever it is - it looks great - great for young people getting going - well done

  • Are they chanting "Go Obama!"?

  • The only chant I heard was "PVU".

  • In case you were wondering what democracy looks like, this is it! WTG PVU!!!!!
