  • A beautiful song, a beautiful video. Thanks for this. Tilda Swinton is absolutely stunning. still.

  • I died and went to heaven.

  • Quel timbre Somptueux !!!!!! C'est tout simplement exquis !

  • Tilda is beautiful, Price sings like an exquisite bird from an outer space and Charpentier's music may account for a proof of God's existence. Man, I really like this video !

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Yes, the best section of the generally disappointing "Aria". One of the best film versions of an aria, ever.

  • My favoriteThanks clip from "ARIA"

  • Exquisite!! Depuis le jour- the day when...

Glory is LOVE. Ms Price is beyond extraordinary on this !! and the Derek Jarman video is one of my favourites!!!!a delight to the senses-

  • Tilda Swinton was so gorgeous in that

  • I saw this for the first time in College in '93. I never imagined that this woman would become such a big actress years later. Ditto with Banderas in Women on edge of a nervous breakdown.

  • bdweightexer: My first Tilda experience was Jarman's War Requiem. She was wonderful in that. Maybe the same thing you saw?

  • wow.

  • This the young Leontyne Price before she got into heavier repetoire that make her voice heavy and hooty. That's also when starting doing all that horrible scooping. This recording is a gorgeous rendition of the aria. Beautiful sweet, silvery lyric soprano.

  • The speed is a bit fast, making the pitches higher, the vibrato faster and the timbre brighter. But Price is still one of the best.

  • Derek J. did a magical job of marrying th image to the sound

  • je suis heureux, très heureuse.... souvenir chamant du premier jour d'amour...

    Miss Price is wonderful

  • glorious rendition

  • Price in her prime was untouchable.

  • I'm pretty sure that this is not Leontyne Price singing. I know she recorded this aria, but it doesn't sound like her at all. I'd love someone that actually has this recording of Price singing this to verify it is in fact her somehow.

  • It 100% IS Leontyne Price. It is off her first Primma Donna CD so it is very young in her career. Remember she sang alot of mozart and lyric roles as well as the hardcore Verdi and Puccini. But even if you didnt have the recording just listen to the way she enters the high notes, its quintessential Price.

  • I have her singing this on a CD...this really is her!

  • Lee sings this aria magnificently....Not many can measure up to this rendition.

  • Definitely Price in her prime...I love the woman. I always felt the tempo was taken to fast on this aria when she sang it. Nonetheless, the voice is splendid! She and Fleming own this aria.

  • It'not the tempo that is taken too fast, it's the speed of the recording I think, at least e semitone too high.

  • I definitely agree. It sounds the same on my CD. I never thought if that way. Thanks for your viewpoint.

  • Yes, I also hear this as one semi-tone higher than written, making Price's (glorious) voice sound a little bit lighter than one might expect.

  • never sung better by anyone...

  • The year that the video was released was 1987

  • What a marvelous voice! She brings so much beauty to everything she sings. What year is this?

  • Miss Price recorded this aria on 6 august 1965 and it is from her album Prima Donna 1.

  • Thanks for the information - I only know the song from the film.

  • Thank you very much. This is Price at her Prime, and we can certainly hear it.

  • Beautiful!
