The bottom line with Senator Kennedy is if you don't want to follow the teachings of the Catholic Church then leave. How ever if you want to call yourself a Catholic you are obligated to follow what the Catholic Church has taught for the past 2000 years. Also the Catholic Church is full of sinners which is why we all goto church in the first place.

Who is the this ass/bishop to tell him that he can't receive communion??? He is NOT god! Didn't Jesus except the tax collectors and the sinners???? Didn't Jesus except the prostitutes and the homeless??? Should we decide who gets to receive communion and be a "Catholic"???? NO we were taught to accept all. So, you want to read the Bible- ok. 1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us as of the ministers of Christ, and the dispensers of the mysteries of God Hebrews 13:17 Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.

There are many more that instruct us to obey our bishops, but that will do for a start.

I did not say for you to read the bible to me I said may be YOU should read the Bible. So let me get this right you think that we as Catholics (including the Bishop) are allowed to DENY someone communion. Or we are allowed to DENY the gift of Christ to someone of opposite views.

A Bishop has the DUTY to deny the sacrements to public and known sinners. Any support for abortion is a grave, mortal sin. Denying communion is not punishment, it is rather, quite merciful because -1 Corinthians 11:27 Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord."

In truth, the good Bishop is trying to save Mr. Kennedy from himself. Note that the Bishop did this privetely.

So let me get this straight since you and I are both sinners and every other Catholic is, the Bishop can use this "DUTY" you talk about to deny me or anyone else sacraments. Because that is what your saying... because everyone is a sinner.

You and I are nobodies (I assume in your case), therefore the priest or bishop has no idea whether we are in a state of grace or not. Most certainly we are all sinners, but when we present ourselves for communion, we must be in as perfect a state as possible, this generally means having no mortal sins currently on our conscience.

In Mr. Kennedys case, he is a public figure, therefore the bishop has knoweldge of the state of his soul and exercised his duty accordingly.

First of all, the Bishop suggested to senator Kennedy not to take communion. It´s not like he blacklisted him. Senator kennedy could go to any other church and he would be given communion, but he will certainly not receive Christ, as it is sacrilegeous to take communion knowing that you're acting agaisnt the teachings of the church.

Mike, when is murdering children in the womb ever acceptable? Just because a human being is small and less developed doesn't mean they are less worthy of life. The Catholic Church defends innocent human life from the moment of conception to natural death no matter of race, creed, or color. If any Catholic can not accept then they should leave the Church and stop identifying themselves as a Catholic.

That is not what I learned when I went to Catholic school. I learned we should accept all and allow every person to receive Christ in their life no matter what there lifestyle was.
