Great music, great video. What happened to MTV? I agree. MTV sucks now. Remember when it was just music? And the VJ's? Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood, Alan Jackson, and there were 2 other guys. I watched this 24/7 for a month back in 1981. Couldn't get enough. After seeing these great videos, I went out and bought the albums which I still have.

For me it was one of the top 5 songs that absolutely epitomized the year 1980, it sends me straight back as if it was only 2 years ago .. it's also one of those songs the makes you remember where you were exactly when one first heard it.

@rockymntskier Two of the founding members of Split Enz were Neil Finn (singing) and his older brother Tim Finn (on guitar with the big hair). After Split Enz broke up in 1984, they went on to form Crowded House, which also had a few major hits in the 1980s and 1990s, including "Don't Dream It's Over" "Something So Strong" and "Distant Sun." The band broke up, but is now together again, although I'm not sure how often they tour or record new material in the studio at this point.

There was this funny little blip in pop-rock music 1979-84. Simplicity that worked well and allowed some real hits to turn up. It happened again 1990-95. It turned up again--once--with "Crazy" in 2006.

I'm thinking what happened to MTV was simply a question of money. Back when these vids were new the artists used them to sell their records and make money. I think they got too greedy wanting too much money for the rights to their vids and that's what killed MTV.

the first time i heard this song was on Solid Gold in 1980, and i fell hard for Neil Finn (i was 12, he was 22 LOL). it was not Tim's Split Enz, but Neil's by this time, more pop flavor to it. i totally respect Tim's more punk feel of Split Enz, but was more of the pop gal at the time. now i love all of it!! finally got my dream come true and met the guys from Crowded House; had my arm around Neil and just about fainted! wonderful gentleman, he is! and soooo very cute in this video!
