love it i remember mum and dad taking us home from the speedway its was 1980 and the radio was playing i got you this was the number 1 song in new zealand i was 11 yrs.
Since there is an MTV discussion going on here I feel the need to say "Fuck MTV, they made music great and then fucked it over." It seems as if music videos started getting great when MTV was at its inception, now music sucks because MTV lost its way.
Great music, great video. What happened to MTV? I agree. MTV sucks now. Remember when it was just music? And the VJ's? Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood, Alan Jackson, and there were 2 other guys. I watched this 24/7 for a month back in 1981. Couldn't get enough. After seeing these great videos, I went out and bought the albums which I still have.
For me it was one of the top 5 songs that absolutely epitomized the year 1980, it sends me straight back as if it was only 2 years ago .. it's also one of those songs the makes you remember where you were exactly when one first heard it.
I heard this song on the radio earlier this evening after probably not hearing it for close to 20 years! Great song, what ever happened to the Split Enz?
@rockymntskier Two of the founding members of Split Enz were Neil Finn (singing) and his older brother Tim Finn (on guitar with the big hair). After Split Enz broke up in 1984, they went on to form Crowded House, which also had a few major hits in the 1980s and 1990s, including "Don't Dream It's Over" "Something So Strong" and "Distant Sun." The band broke up, but is now together again, although I'm not sure how often they tour or record new material in the studio at this point.
Split Enz . The New Zealand Beetles. The best music band in
New Zealand history. None can beat . It's a pity that Split Enz broke up, though their music will forever live on and always be played on the radio airwaves.
There was this funny little blip in pop-rock music 1979-84. Simplicity that worked well and allowed some real hits to turn up. It happened again 1990-95. It turned up again--once--with "Crazy" in 2006.
Always wanted to know how to get in on those little 'blips'.
I'm thinking what happened to MTV was simply a question of money. Back when these vids were new the artists used them to sell their records and make money. I think they got too greedy wanting too much money for the rights to their vids and that's what killed MTV.
I really like this song because I really like the singer and the drums wow you rock man i always hear the song every day this song called I got you its my first good song.

@dillonzo88 - Kids nowdays are stuffed full of stupid "reality" shows and they don't remember MTV as I do when they were our only real introduction to new music and alternative ideas. They were like the mag Rolling Stone before it also sold out. Everyone sells out in the end. Sall about the money...
Holy Smokes! How did I NOT know that Neil Finn of Crowded House was the Split Enz lead singer???? I'm hanging my head in shame. (It only took me about 20 or so years to figure it out).
@doglips1958 esf428 is correct. I remember it all over MTV for bout a month or two. Thats a pretty good run considering the expolsion of videos coming out at the time. I remember this song for 2 reasons. The catchy tune..and those caterpillar eyebrows use to keep me awake at night looking for bugs before I could go to sleep! haha
@xmaspast So they were one hitters in NA. That's unfortunate. I'll look into their other songs. Oh and Crowded House is linked to Split Enz? There's a song on my local radio channel that plays one of their songs. Sweet I can't wait to look into them further. Thanks :D
wow, i think Neil still had that missing tooth in this video; sometime after 2:50. damn he's always had a great smile, and the most beautiful eyes! oy, sweet Finn dreams tonight for sure! LOL
the first time i heard this song was on Solid Gold in 1980, and i fell hard for Neil Finn (i was 12, he was 22 LOL). it was not Tim's Split Enz, but Neil's by this time, more pop flavor to it. i totally respect Tim's more punk feel of Split Enz, but was more of the pop gal at the time. now i love all of it!! finally got my dream come true and met the guys from Crowded House; had my arm around Neil and just about fainted! wonderful gentleman, he is! and soooo very cute in this video!
hace mucho que lo busco , siempre escuchaba en la radio y yo cero ingles pero me puse a escuchar la letra del tema lo anote en un papel , despues lo busque en google y adentro tema , muy bueno
@miyan12 Seems like a whole lifetime ago and the song is still better than most of the garbage being released today. Like myself I'm sure you have children almost that age. Andrew
When i was 15 i went through my mum and dad's record collection, amongst the Elvis and Van Morrison records, was Time and Tide by Split Enz. I said 'Who are these guys? Dad goes, 'You won't like them!'
