I was listening to Mike around midnight on the Saturday before he died, and he was as brilliant as ever, tears of laughter were rolling down my face,I have many cassette tapes of previous classic shows, he was a true legend, sorely missed ,quite unique.
If you want to read a great book recounting the 1977 London to Sydney Rally, which Mike Dickin competed with Simon Park (he of the Simon Park Orchestra fame), it's called A Little Goes A Long Way and it's available from Trafford Publishing. It's an absorbing read
Miss you so much mike, you got me through the hard times back in 96' and i listened to every so you ever did untill the end...would like to hear some old shows if anybody has any.
Such a loss to broadcasting and to his family and friends. I didn't agree with a lot of his views but I respected him to the last. Rest In Peace Mike.
Hard to believe that it's two and a half years since the great man was taken from us. He was an absolute legend of broadcasting and a man I would loved to have met. He's never been replaced on Talk Sport where nowadays apart from George Galloway none of the presenters can cope with a programme on their own and spend more time talking to each other with their opposing biased views than taking calls. I'd loved to have heard Mike's personal views on some of the adverts that littered his programme.
he was so intelligent he made me think about things just normal things like parking tickets and id cards he said he would never have one and i said nr will i RIP
TALKSPORT is a poorer place without MIKE, TOMMY BOYD, PETER DEELEY and JAMES WHALE...I enjoy GEORGE GALLOWAY'S show but all the rest are bland and boring now..
what i would give to hear his attack on geoff hoon about 5 years ago when he proved what this government is..about body armour for our soldiers...hoon was ripped to shreads, superb Mr Dickin, the people of this island never took notice else this mob would be out of power but you will always be a legend of the people, bless the family of this icon of a man
I had the pleasure of knowing Mike personally - my dad was his best mate until their relationship broke down in the early 90s. It involved a woman, needless to say. The two of them competed in the '77 London to Sydney Rally and I always remember Mike slumped in the sofa, slugging down all my dad's best grog and pinching all my fags, whilst regaling us with stories about London's B list celebs and railing against all and sundry. I will always remember him as the first adult I ever heard fart.
Thanks for this tribute to mike Dickin!! He was a true legend, I had many laughs listening to his show!! I still can't believe he's gone, But he will never be forgotten! RIP Mike DICKIN.
he's gone and what r we left with ? a load of self opinionated affected trash radio idiots, they know nothing but can talk for hours about it. Dickin just cut through the crap - that's all. we got to the heart of issues. quickly. it was just good radio and nobody does it now. if u can't see that you're the kind of idiot he'd delight in showing up
This guy really was a true legend. I was gutted upon hearing of his passing but I was fortunate enough to have listened to him for years and he was great company throughout that time.
miss him loads james whale is sound as well ian collins is starting to get on my tits i like mendoza never heard tommy BUT GAUNT CAN TAKE A RUN AN JUMP OF A CILFF!!!
Mike was without doubt the best presenter on Talksport, he didn't stand fools but he was a true gent... and he did believe in free speech unlike some of the others. RIP
It doesn't matter if he believed in God or not, we can still ask God to Bless him. As another great Talksport presenter says, 'we don't live in Cuba'!
I still miss you Mike, a true legend, God Bless, Rest In Peace.
What a sad loss to Radio !! How great it was to hear a man who stood by what he said, and actually meant it - not like the gutless presenters that seem to clog the airwaves with their meaningless dribble.
Mike was an institution and a very good man no1 will be able 2 replace this man -- i think jon gaunt is doing a gd job on talkSPORT 10am but never be replaced always be thort of Mike Dickin R.I.P.
i didnt set out to sum mike up. however this was one of my favourite shows mike was part of. Im not old enough to remember his capital days. I heard him first at the old LBC. in my email i point out that the argument with tommy was all in the aid of entertaining radio.

I only had a chance to hear Mike at the end of his career, when he was broadcasting on talksport on weekend nights. Listening to him through a crackly a.m reception from an old analog radio, over 400 miles away on the West coast of Ireland. I had the privilege to hear his last programme with guest Richard Dawkins.
Mike Dickin was charming, witty, honest and to some obnoxious and irritating (usually to the moronic and inebriated callers and those of low intellect). Whatever the debate, be it speeding tickets, drunken hoodies terrorising the elderly, having to deal with rude and idiotic store assistants whilst attempting to buy a shirt that fit, the existence or non existence of god, vegetarianism;
Mike was always impassioned and unrestrained in his beliefs and what's more you believed what he was saying was his honest opinion, rather you agreed with him or not. It's what made him special, and it's why I listened.
Mike Dickin was something. Under that rough, tough exterior was a man who actually gave a toss about other people. His anger was merely a a manifestation of his dislike of injustice.
The great mans gone & I've had serious withdrawal symptoms since. Radio has become lost & other presenters just don't cut the mustard, he was a true icon to many & real legend.
He was a legend without doubt, the angriest man in Britain will never be forgotten.
R.I.P Mike Dickin, Friday night slots will never be the same without you, I miss hearing you sort out peoples traffic ticket problems with your common "I cannot believe it!".

Mike: No No there are no restrictions on this show..

Mike: errr, yeah I suppose thats true
Caller: and if its between 2 consenting people then,ya know whats the harm?
Mike: quite right.
