  • @theodoro89 yes they cant play dream theater songs, they are not that musically technical, but your dream theater cant make any good songs, dream theater is less talented than metallica, accept it, Hetfield is a legendary composer, he has the riff, conviction, will, and provoking words, and you can actually relate to metallicas groove. their riffs and lyrics stucked in the minds of many. dream theater on the other hand, inspite of their technical prowess, cant make any good songs,,lol!!

  • @lordeowyn only because your brain hasn't got the capacity to realise how awesome dream theater is doesn't mean they are not good

you have to realise only because you don't like them doesn't mean that they aren't a good band who can't write good songs

  • Petrucci as Guitar God

  • petrucci merece uma banda mais legal

  • lack of energy , looks like a ballad

  • shitty

  • it's funny when someone says "metallica can't even play dream theater songs" you can see how arrogant he is,,,hahaha , , , , , stop comparing two diff bands,,,, 'tallica is tallica, dt is dt, they did this to appreciate 'tallica's music...

  • but portnoy is not using all the drunm like in DT songs XD

  • much better than the cover of master of puppets... they play this song with more feeling

  • worst performance again.... dream sucks!!! -_- worst cover.... damn!

  • @mrCALLAMPONim agree, not the best cover, but when you say dream theater sucks, its time to stop listening good music and began to listen some shit like lil wayne

  • I just spent the whole fuckin' song searching for that comment who everyone is picking on..... Still haven't found it, fml....

  • MEJOR QE METALLICA! AJAJAJAJAJAJAJJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ AGUANTE DREAM!

  • lets leave this music up to metallica shall we and dont give up your day job folks

  • jame's aggression and energy is missing here

  • @kostasssism La Brie has no angry, and hetfield has a lot of it, so if you are no Hetfield is hard to sing a Metallica song. Obviously LaBrie is not able to sing a Metallica song, but fortunatelly there are the other members of DT, they are the light of the band, and LaBrie is a looser IMO

  • @FoxWBogart Thats what i am trying to say, great cover but hetfield's anger and performance is irreplaceable!

    I love DT thought!!!

  • @MetallicXXX9 no problems here:) Just listening to the better version of Sanitarium, an amazing song. You?:D

  • @JontheStripper Would I LIKE to? To be honest no:) I don't know you:) I came to watch and listen to an amazing song be covered by an amazing band, not to do a back n forth:)

  • THink portnoy was bored back there? Not enough time changes

  • @nosmoro lol ele toca assim todas as musicas

    Saludos

  • whats with the crowd? theyre all dead. id be starting a pit if i was there

  • Petrucci is a profesor!!!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Petrucci is a GUITAR GOD... true... true... true...

  • wow its raining outside, i enjoy this

I'm so calm. im metallica fan as DT is. I should not burst..its just a music XD

  • Rulzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!

  • Definitely better than metalliscrub:)

  • @tovanche666 Grammar fail much?

  • @tovanche666 Umad? What's your problem, are you like 12yr old kid who thinks only good artist in the world is Metallica? Dude, I love Metallica but atleast I can respect other artists aswell. You got a lot to learn, I can tell you, because I was just like you when I was a little kid. Try to cover this song, lets see if you can do it better than DT. Let's see after you have played for 10 years. After 15 years. You will regret what you thought before, but it's okay because little

  • @tovanche666 @tovanche666 kids don't think as wisely as older people. Or maybe you're just a troll. If ur a troll, they FU.

  • DT was Major inspired by Metallica.

  • in my opinion, even Portnoy being the best drummer in the world, no one plays with the passion that Lars plays :D

  • God damn people, just shut up and listen to the amazing cover.

    Metallica is an amazing band.

Dream Theater is an amazing band.

They've both got good and bad things about them. But to say one is better than the other is just fucking retarded.

  • stop arguing about whos better DT or metallica two of them are awsomely awsome so shut up and lsn to the music

  • There's something a little lifeless about this cover. Maybe Portnoy is being too precise, maybe it's LaBrie's voice. But on the bright side, Petrucci played that solo better than Kirk Hammett probably ever could.

  • you know whats cool? the fact that one band has enough respect for another band, so they cover the songs, play them well and show their skill, which DT obviously has, and thats REAL cool if you ask me. Im not a DT fan, but its obvious that they are a skilled group

  • Wow I have never heard of these guys until literally five minutes ago, and I like them quite a bit :)

I am a huge metallica fan, but I love seeing them covered as well

  • @wolvesfann you have just been introduced to arguably the 4 best metal musicians ever

    period

  • @worthykev ......but there's 5 of them

  • @wolvesfann listen to dream theater mate, u will never listen to metallica again

  • One of their better metallica covers, I am a die hard metallica fan and even I know petrucci is the better of the 2 at guitar. They are still both great, but dream theater doesnt have the stage presence of metallica.

  • @devymetalforlife from your comment we can all see your a retard and incapable of clear thought to slate two musicians that have more talent in one armpit hair than your ever have in your entire life and then to state that other equally talented musicians disrate them.your at best a godshite with little or no brains at all and a knownledge of music seems narrow and blinkered and results complete shit spilling from your mouth.

  • honestly, I prefer limp bizkits version.

I'm not a fan of this jerks but,... their version was more awesome, more a tribute instead of this boring performance..

  • 5:46 seems to me to be a timing mistake on either Petrucci's part, or the drummer/rhythm guitarist's part. It would appear that it wasn't clear how many measures they were going to extend the solo. Another important thing to note is that Petrucci immediately turns to look at the drummer and jumps back into the solo for the final 8 measures.

I can only imagine how hard it must be to catch up to a solo like that.

  • damn this is a live performance and i think it is even better than the original!

for shure dream theater can't play it exactly like metallica but that makes it even better! to be honest the solo parts are played much more tight by petrucci!

    petrucci rocks like hell!!!

  • @devymetalforlife dude go kill urself.... if you has more talent than petrucci you shouldn't be answering youtube comments... noob

  • @devymetalforlife Yeah. sure. youtube, why do you let morons comment on your site? xD

I can only guess you are far too ironic.

You can give an opinion when you are in a worldwide known band, and be able to play flawlessly through every DT song.

Covering Metallica to DT is like taking your ferrari to the mall. Too much a machine to do shit.

Metallica is great influence, but as far as talent, musical knowledge and skills, DT beats Metallicas ass by FAR.

E chords don't do the trick anymore.

  • its just dead listen to the original and youll know it.

  • I wanna see Dream Theater cover Ride The Lightning or ...And Justice For All! The albums that is.

  • I love dream theatre but they are just so boring to watch, man!

  • @ThisISHappanin agreed with u man.not much happening like Metallica.it's quite boring unless u're Japanese audience.

  • @ThisISHappanin u wudnt say that if u were a real fan theyre fuckin amazing and theyre vids and covers are very entertaining

  • metallica is one of my favorite bands of all time along with dream theater, and just to see them cover a metallica song is awesome. id like to see metallica do a thrash cover of pull me under

  • kirk is the one who creat the music , not petrucci

    thats a fact!

  • @Exutus huh??? do you know the thought of your sentence?? i cant understand what you just said.... ey-hole....

  • I do actually like labrie, but I will admit, hetfield is not his style, but this being considered, he is doing rather well considering they had already played an entire venue of their own material before throwing this little extra in as a bonus to the audience. They done a full show of their own music, and as well as the entire metallica album afterwards

  • to those keep on comparing metal bands like DT and Metallica... well DT is more better than Metallica... but stop making argue about it.... cause all of us are metal heads, so no need to argue who's better or whatsoever... just respect to each other, ok.. but i love both of those band.. DT and Metallica

\m/......\m/ rock on and METAL RULES!!!!!! emo DIES....!!!!!

  • some timing errors in the begining, but the rest is good. minus the damned loud audience..lol

  • This is good, but it lacks any amount of guts. When Metallica play it just oozes guts juice.

  • @YtseJam16 It's true. it's hetfield's voice lol

  • the whole song is on Petrucci! it's like an expensive guitar clinic

  • FUCKING CROWD WON'T SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  • Petrucci is wearing a Metallica shirt from the Load era

  • OMG! petruccis guitar sounds EXACTLY like the guitar track on the song!

  • huge as fuck drumset.

  • No one does metallica like metallica !!!

  • @the313v Metallica does not even sound like metallica´90

  • @the313v ...and nothing shines like the sun like the sun...

  • @the313v Metallica can't even play dream theater songs

  • Comment removed

  • so as deep purple cant play metallica songs...but that doesnt mean that they are bad musicians and not legends!

  • @VaskeLoG deep purple can't play metallica songs? well, I can play metallica songs, it is not that hard. bet your ass that deep purple can play metallica songs, lol.

  • @the313v No shit Captain Obvious?

  • exelente video

  • Great guitar playing is about soul, not skill. Petrucci is a masterful craftsmen. But his work does not have the emotion and feel to it as many other great players, and that is just a fact. Example: a great free-throw shooter is basketball does not make him a great basketball player.

  • @Askewviewin your soulmeter is fucked up, son

  • i think that, judging by pure technical skill, that Petrucci is better.

But, i think that Hammett plays more memorable solos/riffs

Hammett probably couldn't play a lot of the stuff that Petrucci plays, but i enjoy Hammett's solos a lot more. I don't listen to DT stuff as much as Metallica though.. mostly because i can hardly stand labrie's voice...

  • you don't know much about music if you say that this is bad.

  • fucking lame crowd

  • The crowd is just...standing there.

  • no body move on this stage ....very poor ....

  • Kirk and JP are both great guitarists Kirk ipersonaly would rather see live because unlike JP he gets into it hes not a robot and just kicks one foot up and plays kirk TRYS to excel JP knows hes just the shiznit so doesnty do anything new

  • @TheDanelMoreno

I agree. I mean, the whole of Metallica has a connection with the crowd other bands just don't. Especially when Jason was in the band, they were untouchable live in the 80's and early 90's. I'm sure this is a guitarists wet dream, but us mere mortals would prefer imaginative solos and charismatic performances.

  • petrucci is probably one of the most technically proficient players ever. For all you haters go watch his pyscho exercises. If your still a hater after that go watch portnoy go through the counts/time signatures on the dance of eternity. If you're STILL not convinced, please don't a troll and stop posting invalid comments.

  • Petrucci is a very good guitarist, but he didn't write Sanitarium (riffs/solos). A lot of good guitarists can cover Metallica but will never be as great and gigantic heavy like Metallica! It looks rather static to me. Compare it to Roskilde '86 for instance!

  • man this is one of my all time favorite tracks by any band and probably my all time fav metallica track, maybe tied with Creeping Death its hard to say, and this is an awesome cover Petrucci FTW as usual

  • Comparing Kirk to John is like comparing a Geo Metro to a Ferrari... Kirk being the geo....

  • KIRK RULZZ!!!!!!THAT'S IT!!his solos speaks so much!

  • @TheKrash009 he does have a lot of voice and emotion in his solos now that i think about it...especially with the first solo in Welcome Home...has a lot of sorrow in it. :P

  • cant really say petrucci is a guitar god on a song that he never wrote, anyone can play a song they didnt write. im a huge metallica fan and i hate dream theather, dont like their style. i can agree that petrucci is good, but hes no where near kirk. kirk has much more talent and emotion in his solos, speed isnt everything.

  • @MasterAtheist i can see that your not a player guitar

  • @MasterAtheist HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! :D

    ...no seriously, what the fuck?

  • @MasterAtheist you best be trollin', boy. i lol'ed

  • has anyone ever liked the dream theatre vocalist?

  • @beaulingpin only in the dream theatre songs

  • @beaulingpin when he was like 20. he was a much better singer back then

  • @eKuL1995 Technically, there are no footages of James singing until he was like 25, and he only joined DT when he was like 30.

  • @RockRulez124 Well I was talking about Winter Rose, so you know what I was talking about. I meant before his food poisoning accident.

  • @beaulingpin never, i like dream theater but the vocalist...FUCK! it's bad, so bad

  • @uitolanstruxet for metallica songs he's really bad you're right

  • @beaulingpin the guy from Ayreon liked him enough to have him on one of his albums... not that you probably know who Ayreon is

Personally, i dislike his voice. DT + a guy with a good sounding voice would be so much better

  • @beaulingpin I like him in some Dream Theather' song...as Forsaken.

But his voice is horrible in Metallica's songs.

  • @kingappia lol thats right .. metallica and labrie does not match but i like is voice in DT songs lol..

  • @beaulingpin type in john petrucci vocals wither - he shud be singer :L

  • @beaulingpin he was great on images and words

  • @beaulingpin hes very good and fits perfect in DT, I couldnt imagine a different kinda vocalist like him for a melodic band like DT but I dont prefer him as a vocalist alone. I prefer heavier vocalists, even though hes great at what he does ofcourse.

  • @beaulingpin i do

  • @beaulingpin I like the one they had on their second album. He was good.

  • @gamemasterb4u thats the same guy you see here in this video

  • @beaulingpin Haha he's waaaay to nasal xD

  • @beaulingpin

and does anyone like jerk hammett for real?

  • @beaulingpin PSH!!! What EV dude. LaBrie is a brilliant singer. The problem with this performance is that he's not a raw edge rock vocalist like Hetfield. In that regard Hetfield is nothing short of a god. However I still got to give DT an A+ on covering Metallica.

  • @beaulingpin People who know how to spell Dream Theater usually do ;)

  • @beaulingpin I understand what you mean. I started to really like James Labrie years after adoring Dream Theater. He does a wonderful job, but he can be difficult to be accepted.

  • @beaulingpin Only when he sings Dream Theater songs.

  • @beaulingpin NEVAH!

  • @beaulingpin yes i like him more than hetfield

  • @beaulingpin yes i like him :D

  • @beaulingpin not me thats for sure!

  • @beaulingpin as a matter of fact, i do, very much. he's technically and emotinally more of a singer than hetfield will ever be, so what the fuck.

Also, nice cover, but metallica does indeed thrive much more on sheer guts, as most thrash does, and this is more musical geekery (in a good way, i think)

  • @beaulingpin eeeeeewwww!! nasty! lolz i don't like him!

  • @beaulingpin no

  • @beaulingpin

    I did.

But when he sings Dream Theater...

It seems like James was born to sing for Dream Theater, he's just perfect for them!

Yes, the guy can't sing Metal, but hey, i wanna see Hetfield singing Dream Theater

  • @dani1928 Dream Theater= Progressive Metal!!!! WTF have you ever seen James Labrie singin under a glass moon on 92

  • @beaulingpin Me! How can you not like him?!

  • @beaulingpin He's better the James hetfield and thats a mother fucking fact.

  • @DTxOctavariumx no he's not

  • @FixxxeR208 Yeah he is in Dream Theater. Not tallica. His range is better. And he doesn't growl.

  • @DTxOctavariumx he is growling; J. Hetfield sang these songs with his clean original voice, he didn't growl. LAbrie here tries to growl. Don't misunderstand. If you have to cover someone's songs you don't need to change your voice.

  • @FixxxeR208 If you want to cover a song your not going to sing a heavy metal song your not gonna sing in a high voice

  • @DTxOctavariumx that's what I'm saying. You should use your own voice, not like Labrie and many other bands vocalists that start to growl and scratch their voice instead of using their natural one. Which sounds very good.

  • @FixxxeR208 yes he is

but i agree that this song is from metallica and DT is covering an awesome bands song

  • @beaulingpin he's good but he like all the bands (except for Tallica) the vocalists don't use their own voice, instead of giving the original one they try to be like the singer of the band who they cover, and here except the music which was great unfortunately Labrie sucked.

  • @beaulingpin yeah man, he reminds me of geddy lee. which isn't a bad thing!

  • Petrucci rules.

Metal up your ass... from Italy.

  • what's up with the haste..?

  • I think we can all agree that Petrucci is one of the greatest ever. Although a horrible performer, he makes up for it with amazing talent. There is a reason we all know about the famous guitarists. This is because they ALL have amazing talent. But JP is unforgettable.

  • Man its great to see bands like the playing metallica songs!. classic! but no band in the fuckin' world will ever touch where metallica touched back in the day, for those of you who were alive in the 80s will know what i am talking about, when you hear some one say metallica live! you get the goosebumps! and get the kick! to kill some one, if you notice metallica plays much fuckin' better live other than their records. that's what i like about them. they keep something for their fans.

  • @MeTaLiXe I went to a metallica concert 2009, i enjoyed the opening bands more, they played their songs right, metallica wasnt as good, and lars ruined a few songs

  • @ProggyDrummer I think i mentioned Live 80's and no band will touch how metallica played live in the 80s i suggest you watch Metallica LiveShit Seattle 89'

and even on live they play much better than their records. lars ruined some songs cause he is lamely lazy, but till fall of 2009 they have improved and kicks ass much fuckin' better to their age.

  • Até hoje acho que o melhor cover de Metallica foi o Pantera quem fez, o resto sei la!!!

  • it's strange, Everyone of DT are better musician that every other musician of Metallica...but they won't give the same show and strength in all their lives playing Metallica covers... as Metallica does

  • Dream Theater is phenomenal. But, they will never touch Metallica in terms of passion and creativity (at least in '86). Metallica was f***in viscous back then.

  • instrumentally, dream theater has done an amazing cover. but what with the singer? and progmaster i saw metallica live. kirk hammet is fucking sick. i would give anything to play like that and i can play pretty damn good.

  • w/ all the band members wearing Metallica shirts makes them look like a tribute band!lol But Ive always liked DT! I didnt know they were Metallica fans till I got on youtube 3 years ago!!

  • grandissimi dream.....esaltante accostamento ai metallica!

  • not all that bad

  • yes! a guitar god,, but it is a shame he became a christian,,, yiaaagh!!

  • no emotions

  • any band can cover a song but writing the song is the skill

  • he sounds like mustaine

  • anybody think the intro sounds like pull me under?????

  • no feeling at all...

  • @ORPHISMO Exactly! Agreeded! That's what differs MetallicA from the rest of the bands!

  • Aahhh please hire James and delete Labrie!

  • you'd think for a band that has the musical talent that dream theater has they would find a more creative way to play this song

  • John Is more Sexier with Long Hair

  • Kirk Hammett is nowhere near John Petrucci's skill level. That's just a fact. Kirk Hammett has the luxury of being lead guitarist for one of the most successful metal bands in history, but as far as skill is concerned he's mediocre. His style is sloppy and inconsistent, as any knowledgeable guitarist (like myself) will tell you. I love Metallica and many of Kirk's licks are awesome, but from a musician standpoint he leaves a lot to be desired.

  • @HuuGRection amen man.
