That said, I used to be skeptical as I learned more about critical thinking. I was skeptical about everything except religion when someone asked me to justify my beliefs. I thought at that time that there was evidence for what I believed, but I had not looked into it at all.
When asked for the evidence I thought existed, and after trying to get it, I found that it simply wasn't there. Noah's ark, the existence of Jesus, etc. simply didn't have any proof to back it up.

Because I started thinking for myself instead of taking whatever my pastor said as truth. I found out about other sun gods like Mithra, Osirus, Apollonius of Tyana, etc. I learned about who wrote the bible, and its not god, even believers admit it was written by the priests of those days. I learned that the gospel of Mathew was written by a man who had the old testament in his lap.
I found that belief didn't explain a lot of things, like maleria or smallpox, which are not proof for god.

Its historical evidence, but here is why it isn't worth shit. Josephus was born after Jesus had supposedly died. He was not alive when Jesus supposedly walked the earth. So how is that anywhere close to proof for a historical Jesus? At best it is hearsay.
His works have been translated and kept by religious authorities. Josephus could have been talking about any of the hundreds of Jesus copies walking around.
And thats not even the worst part, Josephus talks about "Christ" not Jesus Christ. Christ means "the anointed one." Josephus could have been talking about Apollonius of Tyana, or any of the hundreds of people that called themselves "the anointed one." Krishna was called "Christos," or in greek - "Christ."
Your supposed proof for a historical Jesus, even though it was written by someone who was born after Jesus was dead, can be used to prove a historical Krishna just as much as a jesus.

I have heard all the arguments for god, I have gone looking for hours to try to find a convincing argument. I was a christian, and I wanted to convert an atheist, through my research I figured out there is no evidence for god.
So what is the best argument you have for god?
And don't assume its all been proven, thats what most christians do. It hasn't even been proven that a historical Jesus existed. Prove me wrong.

The bible is not a reliable source especially when it comes to history. Do a quick google search on historical hiccups in the bible and you will see what I mean.

Make sure your response cites contemporaries and don't say Josephus, as he has been thoroughly debunked as a reliable source.
His mention of Jesus in chapter 18 is an admitted forgery even by modern apologists and his chapter 21 mention is obviously an interpolation when you read the next sentence in the book where it gives the full name of the Jesus he was referring to (not christ).

That said, I used to be skeptical as I learned more about critical thinking. I was skeptical about everything except religion when someone asked me to justify my beliefs. I thought at that time that there was evidence for what I believed, but I had not looked into it at all.
When asked for the evidence I thought existed, and after trying to get it, I found that it simply wasn't there. Noah's ark, the existence of Jesus, etc. simply didn't have any proof to back it up.

How did you come to blindly follow your faith without question? Skepticism is healthy for any belief system or even what some people consider facts. It keeps you questioning things so that you don't believe in 9/11 conspiracies, etc.
Whenever anyone claims something, I am skeptical if it is scientific or spiritual. I look for objective evidence to support the beliefs I choose to follow, and I believe things only if the evidence is there to support it.

Because I started thinking for myself instead of taking whatever my pastor said as truth. I found out about other sun gods like Mithra, Osirus, Apollonius of Tyana, etc. I learned about who wrote the bible, and its not god, even believers admit it was written by the priests of those days. I learned that the gospel of Mathew was written by a man who had the old testament in his lap.
I found that belief didn't explain a lot of things, like maleria or smallpox, which are not proof for god.

I have, and the responses I get back aren't very convincing.
I am not evidence for a god. Humans know about pregnancy, I know how I was born, I know that having a child doesn't require divine intervention.
It used to be, you are evidence because god made you in your mommy's tummy. But now I know the truth, and knowing how reproduction works is much more fulfilling then "god dunnit."
I'm not evidence because everything about my origin can be explained without invoking god.

Your beliefs are in conflict with actual established fact, so you say that scientists are the ones just saying something.
In reality it is the religious that are just saying things. Your pastor doesn't set up experiments to test falsifiable beliefs your church hold dear, he just preaches, just talks from the pulpit. And you take what he says as the truth, while saying that scientists just "say it."

A couple of years ago when I did believe in God I was VERY into world of warcraft. When I became skeptical about my religion, I gained emotional intelligence. Every choice and mood I was in I could weigh and debate in my head. I was finally free to see that WoW was hurting me.

Its historical evidence, but here is why it isn't worth shit. Josephus was born after Jesus had supposedly died. He was not alive when Jesus supposedly walked the earth. So how is that anywhere close to proof for a historical Jesus? At best it is hearsay.
His works have been translated and kept by religious authorities. Josephus could have been talking about any of the hundreds of Jesus copies walking around.

Josephus could have been talking about Apollonius of Tyana, or any of the hundreds of people that called themselves "the anointed one." Krishna was called "Christos," or in greek - "Christ."
Your supposed proof for a historical Jesus, even though it was written by someone who was born after Jesus was dead, can be used to prove a historical Krishna just as much as a jesus.
