Neil Peart Of Rush Behind The Scens?! What a load of bullshit, 4 minutes of some random people setting up his drum kit, and like 15 seconds of him on stage (not behind the scenes) false advertising and a waster of time!
I am not even that much of a Peart fan, but I can recognize skill when I hear it. Sounds like somebody has pissed in your Wheaties, man. Either that or you are just furiously jealous of the man's skill and fame.
@Pidgeon182 another typical way of looking at it.STILL the same thing;unless a person seems to agree and worship this hack he's either stupid;knows nothing;doesn't"get it" ( as russhettes fanboys love to say);or of course is jealous of the success factor.LOL.Fuck moron,GET OVER IT.And dont be afraid to listen to OTHER artsists and musicians. There ARE others out there ya know???Believe it or not.
Has nothing to do with worship, and you don't have to like the guy if you don't want to. The part that makes me question your motives is that if you really don't like the guy..why come to youtube and dis the man? Normal people just ignore the artist..jealous people brood over it and publicly denounce them. I don't know how else that I can say I am not a fanboy. I don't listen to Rush that often, and I don't think Pert is the best drummer in the world.
I do however recognize the man's skill and talent (like I said). i don't have to be a fan of Rush to recognize their talent. My favorite dummer is Danny Carrey from Tool, so nice try on that one buddy. (I wouldn't be surprised if you were jealous of him, too). Seems like you kinda miss that part that music is subjective to the person listening to it. YOU might not like it, but listen..most do. So, you are the odd one out in this scenario.
@Pidgeon182 Your redeeming factor is that Mr.Carrey is your preference instead of the bloated and overdone neily boy who's more like a drum machine and plays "safe" doing everything EXACTLY the same each time for fear of not being "Mr.Perfect".LOL.And for what its worth, the"odd one out types" are historically always the ones who were the catalysts for change.Or dont you realize and recognize that fact?Cheers :)

@Pidgeon182 fuck man.LOL. GET OVER IT.You think so highly of this mere mortal that you cant even spell OR pronounce his name right?.lol.Delusions of grandeur? Get over what? Why do you keep telling me to get over something? I am comfortable in my belief, and trust me..I am not alone. You think you are a catalyst for a change in thought or perception? Yeah, I would call that a delusion of grandeur. Also, the reason I use the word 'great" when I try and describe Mr. Peart is because he and his comrades have brought countless hours of joy and happiness to millions, and still do. Hard to not consider that great.
Seems you also fail to grasp that I am not that much of a fan of Peart's sound. i like the guy, and respect what he has accomplished in the music industry for as many years as he has. That is about it. My language too verbose for you? Want me to speak a bit more monosyllabic while using bad sentence structure and obnoxious use of caps? Ok, sure. I can do that. LOL. LOOK man. Let me paraphrase because you don't seem to want to answer. >>Why are you so mad? He is only a drummer, and no one is forcing you to listen to him. You jealous or something?
@Pidgeon182 "You jealous or something?".Well, that's the ever present phrase that when it's repeated as often as you have( and other assholes who couldn't see passed this particular lame as possible aspect)makes me just roll my eyes and realize its time for the final retort.Because now it's an obvious matter of being redundant and repetitious. So naw... And yet you still don't answer the questions I asked. Is it because you can't? Is it because you really ARE jealous and don't want to admit it? Strange...very strange. You are blaming me for being redundant and repetitive? Have you even read what you wrote? People in glass houses should throw no stones, old man. While you are gone it might be a good idea to learn how to not use logical fallacies, and how to use some tact.
@Pidgeon182 as i said..you've become boring lil fella.Chatter on.lol.I'm done>But to answer.Yes i'm green with envy and seething with jealousy. To the mind of a mindless one, what else could it possibly be?If i was repetitive,it was from having to repeatedly respond to each of YOUR posts that continued to be of NO substance and about the same aspect over..and over.. and over("you must be jealous").Can only respond to that once. After that,it's only repetition. So as i said;I'm done.Enjoy.LOL
Sure, if that is the way you see it. I will respect you opinion, regardless of how stupid or incorrect it is. I would be happy to abridge the conversation and bring to light several questions that you conveniently ignored, but it won't change anything. You are already set in your deluded ways.
This video is a perfect example of what happens when you put a phuckbrained dweeb in charge of production. Only a total wannabe would choose to insert such irritating repetitive high-speed segments into an otherwise enjoyable and interesting video. Bad decision, dude! You might want to go back to your previous job where you asked people "do you want fries with that?"
not that Neil was or is, the only rock god drummer guy to ever play such a fine drumkit, but jesus.......figure the entire cost of all that gear, Mega-Custom DW's, like 15 drums, all that Custom Gold-Plated DW hardware, in addition to any electonic stuff he as using to augment, plus Gongs, Roto's, Chimes, Special Pedals or Triggers, the Custom Riser itself..........???? Are you fucking kidding me. thinking $100,000 grand easy, if not more.
Now I can tell how much I'm not a drummer and "such a girl"...I'm ready to wander off now that the drum kit needs to be assembled...uh, wavey wavey "Bye bye guys, see ya' later"...
What I admire about Neil and this goes for Randy Rhodes and Steve Vai and a multitude of other musicians is that they consistently state that no matter how accomplished you are, you never stop learning. They talk to other musicians, take lessons, read, whatever they can do to expand their repetoire. That, to me, is what separates a good musician from a great one.
Here's a quick and simple trick for cleaning your cymbals...Before you use you're desired cleaning fluid, bathe the cymbal in very hot water with some washing up liquid and clean with the damp and soapy rag, dry, then apply your polisher when the metal is still hot, polish off, and that cymbal will shine like Neils...Gerry...
@TheGmcFilms Sweet!! Thanks for wonderful info. man,I'm sure everyone reading that (including myself),will NOW be adding there cymbals to there dishes!! Lol.
@menom7. I hope that works for you Menom. I found this technique for cleaning the cymbals from a ' pot man ' ( a man who works in a hotel kitchen cleaning pots and pans with copper bottoms ) the bottom of the pans would gleam and shine as new...Sorry I did not get round to replying back to you so quickly, I had a problem with the ' soundcard ' on my computer ( Damn this box of tricks ! )...I hope it helps...G...
i think you might be referring to "A Work In Progress"...it was filmed to show how Neil changed his entire setup and switched to traditional grip for their album "Test For Echo". He does talk a lot in that vid! but he completely changed his approach to drumming, so he had a lot of explaining to do!
i love Rush, i love Neil! i'm not a drummer, i'm a guitarist, and YES, Alex is one of if not my fav axemen of all time. but i have Neil's first video...dang, my nephew has it and i can't remember the name...anyway, i love the man. but damn he talks more than he plays in that video, lol. i mean, i know he has to explain a lot, but he loves to go off on tangents and talk talk talk about anything and everything. by the way, what's the video i'm referring to?
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
It is not the demon star at all!!! it is a pagan(pentangle) symbol and it is employed to ward of evil. Much like pumpkins at autmun they are present to ward of the evil spirits.
Good job the bill's being picked up by DW and Sabian then ! BTW I always wondered what that thing was on his kit from when I first noticed it back in 1988 ! A fan for his hands ! Genius !
I did'nt see Neil Helping to set up his drum kit, must be nice ,that would take all day for one person..Even with the team he has it probably took a few hours to set up...ohh to be a rock star..
I know that its not just about technical knowledge. All im saying is, how are you gonna write anything down if you dont know what youre playing. Its the enjoyment of music that creates these things but to preserve them is where musical knowledge comes in. Also, I am an orchestral composer and conductor so dont tell me that i dont understand "enjoyment of music." I believe that musical knowledge is the basis of musical success, because every single musician ive met who doesnt know it sucks.
music comes from the heart and soul, not scribbled lines on paper. take your smug, stuffy composer/conductor ego and cram it up your ass along with your wand and podeum...douchbag!
WTF never once did i say that music didnt come from the heart. Thats the one reason that i play music. All im trying to say is that if you dont understand what youre doing you wont be able to function with other musicians. How on earth will you be able to tell tham what you want them to do? You cant go into a jam session and say "dude play that thing at that part in the song where it goes like that." He/she wont understand what you mean. If you understand theory you can narrow it down.
I have played in bands for over 20 years, i have taught music for about 15 of those 20 years, i have a great knowledge of music theory...my band plays all over the east coast...not once in rehearsal do i have to stop and chart something...you said "how are you gonna write anything down" . If you are in a rock and roll situation you dont need that shit... thats for pretentious putz orchestral dreariness fags...they are the ones who dont understand what they are doing!!!!!
its funny cause i chart rock music all the time, and i know plenty of people who do the same, so they can take their ideas to the practice. Ever wonder where all those books of rock guitar music comes from? Music theory. Tabs are part of music theory, going back to the time of the lute. So you cant say that rock musicians dont need music theory. I have played rock all my life and that is the centrepiece of it all. and communicating musically doesnt mean charting it rather than speaking it.
Man, I couldn't agree with you more, the worst drummer I've heard...no time, bad hands, I watched him in rehearsal for Buddy's memorial concert, spent all his time with his tech guys, tuning and bullshit, if he spent have his time learning how to play...but then, you have to remember the IQ of those who listen to him...
dear ass nut I do not see you having sold 90 million albums or been in a very succesfull rock band that is still touring for over 35 years, still selling out 10,000+ arena's. When u do you can then critique the best damn drummer ever, I wonder how you would be if you lost your wife and daughter tragically within 6 month.s of each other. Neil is the bomb I have seen him 10 times he is fantastic. PUT UP OR SHUT UP you probably think Alanis Morrisettes drummer is GOD,, DUMB SHITHEAD>>>
if this line of thought is true then it must be equally true that one must also have similar credentials to lay praise upon him.
if you don't have the millions of records sold etc. to give credibility to your opinion, then you're just another douche heaping unsubstantiated praise on the undeserving.
right?
i mean, this is the point you make and you make it well, i must say.
and for the record i bet you're the kind of fuck that thinks his mom's cunt is delicious.
One loses a lot of credibility by disparaging "tuning and bullshit." I'd imagine that there's scarcely a better way to identify yourself as a dilettante.
Your a fucking retard, and probably a really shitty drummer if you don't recognize the fact of him being brilliant, he's no buddy but honestly calling him the worst i think your ego might be a little to big
2 of Neil's inspirations... :+) I don't think anyone is as obsessed with Peart as I am. The Professor will always be the best in my eyes. HOWEVER, I will admit, if it weren't for the greats like Krupa and Rich, he wouldn't be where he is today, along with Bozzio, Carter Beauford, Steve Smith, Donati, etc... Even Animal would not exist if it wasn't for Moon. lol Get my point? But I still think Pratt is a god. That's only my opinion. Cheers!
ringo is amazing. bonham is amazing. neil is amazing. tony williams is amazing. etc. they are all amazing because they are all in touch with their voice. neil peart is technically "better" than most of these guys, but that doesn't necessarily make him a more soulful drummer, better time keeper, etc. he's a bit stiff. bonham has a much better feel. ringo has much better tempo than any of those guys, but can't pull off half the shit that they do. they each offer something different.
great insight man too often all I have seen on Youtube is young drummers bagging on most drummers that are not of their generation instead of using this incredible tool they have. I rmember when I was 13-14 about 15 yeara ago and how psyched I was when one dvd came out per year now these kids have clips of almost anybody almost instantly and they use it to say how much bettee Joey Joridson is than anyone that culture of brotherhood in drumming is being eroded
He sucks!

Wicked cool drum set for sure, and he's earned it. But I'm betting he would not like being referred to as a god.

LilDrummerBoy74 2 years ago
music comes from the heart and soul, not scribbled lines on paper. take your smug, stuffy composer/conductor ego and cram it up your ass along with your wand and podeum...douchbag!
stratdaddy89 2 years ago
WTF never once did i say that music didnt come from the heart. Thats the one reason that i play music. All im trying to say is that if you dont understand what youre doing you wont be able to function with other musicians. How on earth will you be able to tell tham what you want them to do? You cant go into a jam session and say "dude play that thing at that part in the song where it goes like that." He/she wont understand what you mean. If you understand theory you can narrow it down.
LilDrummerBoy74 2 years ago
I have played in bands for over 20 years, i have taught music for about 15 of those 20 years, i have a great knowledge of music theory...my band plays all over the east coast...not once in rehearsal do i have to stop and chart something...you said "how are you gonna write anything down" . If you are in a rock and roll situation you dont need that shit... thats for pretentious putz orchestral dreariness fags...they are the ones who dont understand what they are doing!!!!!
stratdaddy89 2 years ago
its funny cause i chart rock music all the time, and i know plenty of people who do the same, so they can take their ideas to the practice. Ever wonder where all those books of rock guitar music comes from? Music theory. Tabs are part of music theory, going back to the time of the lute. So you cant say that rock musicians dont need music theory. I have played rock all my life and that is the centrepiece of it all. and communicating musically doesnt mean charting it rather than speaking it.

peart is an average drummer at best.
he's the over-rated professor, that's who the fuck neil peart is.
don't even put him in the same sentence as rich / krupa / chambers / bonham / moon / gadd / weckl...
dude's solos are the most uninspired and uninspiring ever and he has no groove.

wow. "Dickravis"....
I am amazed at your ignorance.
Do you know anything about drums,or songwriting, or music in general?
Some people just have to disagree with the majority,no matter how damn stupid they may sound in the process!
kinda sad...
AnalogKid19732008 2 years ago
Man, I couldn't agree with you more, the worst drummer I've heard...no time, bad hands, I watched him in rehearsal for Buddy's memorial concert, spent all his time with his tech guys, tuning and bullshit, if he spent have his time learning how to play...but then, you have to remember the IQ of those who listen to him...
acedrumminman 2 years ago
hay you be quiet. He plays fantasticly, and has argeuably the biggest drum set known to man.
psycomasta 2 years ago
dear ass nut I do not see you having sold 90 million albums or been in a very succesfull rock band that is still touring for over 35 years, still selling out 10,000+ arena's.
LittleMoosehoof 2 years ago 2
if this line of thought is true then it must be equally true that one must also have similar credentials to lay praise upon him.
if you don't have the millions of records sold etc. to give credibility to your opinion, then you're just another douche heaping unsubstantiated praise on the undeserving.
right?
i mean, this is the point you make and you make it well, i must say.
and for the record i bet you're the kind of fuck that thinks his mom's cunt is delicious.
(now we're even.)
dickravis 2 years ago
One loses a lot of credibility by disparaging "tuning and bullshit." I'd imagine that there's scarcely a better way to identify yourself as a dilettante.
KalashnikoV247 2 years ago
Your a fucking retard, and probably a really shitty drummer if you don't recognize the fact of him being brilliant, he's no buddy but honestly calling him the worst i think your ego might be a little to big
jeffrey6750 2 years ago
Wow. Ever thought of channeling that red hot anger into railing against douchebag politicians or just plain evil? The guy's a drummer in a rock band.
HugoJCox 2 years ago
this isn't red hot anger, it's called 'reason' and 'logic'.
while discussing neil peart, they leave the mind of the rush fan and sheer hero worship takes over.
i see your point, and if there were more pressing matters in the world today, i'd address them.
...but for now we're all lucky that rock and roll bands are the really really really important issues of the day.
