With the health care bill they are passing is just what the Ins companys wants. I cannot believe the president or congress did not stand up to this bill. It is a joke, I have read it. They can charge extra someone who is sick. They should have started over and got a good bill. Now you have Dems dropping out and not running again, and alot of them might lose there seat. I am for the Public Option, if it gets us to Universal Health Care. My previous post states that people with an unhealthy lifestyle do suffer the medical consequences of having heart disease, which is the majority of the case. Yes, people that live healthy lifestyles get sick too, but are you going to tell me that America is the healthiest country in the world?

Why do we even need insurance in the first place just to receive essential health care? Come on! We're a modern country. The government should be able to fund basic essential health care for all citizens. Insurance should be available for anyone who wants their own private suites and other non-essential extras. All major insurance companies has a very highly paid staff that assesses "potential high risk claims" and I know this because I worked both in Human Resources and Employee Benefits for several major corporations. The people who come out on these lists are in serious trouble because they are viewed as a liability and are flagged to be dropped from the insurance. High paid officials of insurance companies try to figure out ways NOT to pay claims and when they do it they receive bonuses!

The assumption seems to be that everyone who is against the bill is on the conservative, anti-socialist side. Agreed: insurance companies should not deny coverage for pre-existing conditions or if you get sick while covered. However, you should not be forced to pay for health insurance if you don't want it.

You ARE being forced to pay for it RIGHT NOW. Who pays for the visits to the emergency room by the uninsured - the people who pay premiums. That is one of the reasons that premiums have risen so much. The emergency room is a LOT more expensive than a regular visit. Higher premiums means more in the ER which means higher premiums which means more uninsured. A vicious cycle.
