My absolute favourite antivirus is Avast. Even the free one seem's to be more useful than a full version of mcafee. I once had a virus which shut off all of my antivirus's and would not allow me too reactivate them. The virus did this too all BUT avast!. Avast also update's it's virus definition's everytime a new one pop's up. I get an alert from it to say it's been updated at least every morning. and then one or two more update's happen throught the day. Get avast, there's no need to pay!

@TehGord NOD32 and Kaspersky run slow on computers that are old and have a low recrouces. And there are very dangerous viruses that these 2 have yet to detect. I've tested nod32, kaspersky, norton, mcafee, and more... and the ones that i found to actually do something is malwarebytes and previx csi. i like malwarebytes b/c of how its built it lets you kill the virus with something similar to unlocker. So you can trust those name based but i work with viruses and i do know what works. stay safe.
