having two guitarists is very handy, and in slipknot they both play lead. A metaphor could be a big band, multiple saxes playing the lead, some harmony in there. The Solos and riffs that slipknot slipknot plays are much more difficult then the ones soad plays, thats just a fact. same goes for drums. does this mean soad is bad, of course not. Soad beats slipknot on singing and bass any day. but i garantee, slipknot guitarists would hav no trouble performing this guitar part.
