Talented in everything he touched, beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. An enormous loss to us all, and his beautiful wife must miss him terribly.
@friendofgeorge3 It's actually Swayze's first movie, believe it or not. I saw this the year it came out along with another great roller rinking movie, "Roller Boogie" starring Miss EXORCIST herself, the gorgeous Linda Blair.
I was on the set of SkateTown USA. Patrick Swayze was in his first big role, and every moment he wasn't on camera he was sucking on a Marlboro. I guess the cigarettes won.
That last leap is so like the leap in Dirty Dancing! I love it! So many people mock this time era...but what talent do you see today that can skate like this?!
Read or listen to his book on cd. This was the first movie he appeared in. He was amazing could have gone to the Olympics in gymnastics, professional ballet dancer, football player. There was so much we didn't know about him thats in his book of his life. Very interesting.

Patrick Swayze was a natural born talent. He could Act, Dance, Roller Skate and Sing. He was an Amazing Person I had the Honor of meeting him in 1985.
The best skating movie. I remember going to the skating rink all the time with my brother and friends. We were about 13 when this came out in '79. We loved this one and ROLLER BOOGIE. Great times!!
my god..is there anything Patrick couldn't do? He ice hockeyd as well, surfed..stripped. played trans, did dirty dancing...and heaps of stuff..talk about talented.
@esseen100 The man was epic. Definitely one of the finest actors ever to have lived. Even when he had cancer he was doing his own stunts in The Beast. A total legend.
BigMamaDancer's got it right! Sex on a stick, and what's wrong with the belt...that's hot, too!! And knowing the myth of Dionysus and Adonis, kazuo62, I see Swayze here as a perfect Dionysus, deep purple and seductive and alluring and inebriating, like wine...I'd love to drink him down along with the belt! He always knew how dance seductively.
This scene actually took ALL DAY to shoot. Mostly because Patrick made a lot of mistakes, not because he wasn't talented, but because he had a lot of pressure on him that day. After all, we ALL were standing around being the audience. And the choreographer, for some reason, never counted "5 6 7 8" in time with the music. When you see him finish the routine, and we're cheering, it was because HE FINALLY FINISHED IT!
Patrick Swayze became so embarrassed by that movie that he BOUGHT the rights to it and BURIED IT.
I remember the day that scene was shot... Patrick was not skating to that horrible music in that clip. It was actually a disco version of The Rolling Stone's "Under My Thumb".
He had NO stunt double. He did ALL of his own skating.
That explains why we never see that movie in the video stores. The movie itself was embarrassing if you look at it now, but this scene was the best part of it. The only glimmer of class and upcoming talent, even though he was among a bunch of character actors. They should have used Under my Thumb. The song they used sounded corny. He was so beautiful.
Sounds like what David Hasselhoff tried to do with the movie "Revenge of the Cheerleaders" that he was in back in the 1970's, but was not successful in buying up all copies of the movie. It was so bad that it had earned a spot on a list of the worst films of all time.
Holy super gay, but it's Swayze so i guess it's straight enough. He makes that belt his bitch though! How is it that no one has commented on this solid gold bullshit?
Talented in everything he touched, beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. An enormous loss to us all, and his beautiful wife must miss him terribly.

Definately a popular disco themed movie, but I think "Thank God It's Friday" would be the holy grail of disco films - no offense.

The man was a legend within his own right, so talented. His years of dedication to Ballet and dance certainly paid off!
It's hard to believe the man with the belt on quads (who is ace on them in fact, pun intended), was also a fantastic martial artist.
RIP Patrick Swayze. A True Legend!
Proof that if you believe you can truly get there!
