Why Metallica themselves haven't remastered this album to kick up the bass is one of the world's great mysteries. Sounds good, man. Thanks for letting us know what we were missing.
i just fucking love this song. awesome bass kick dude. it still sounds great with or without. And Justice For All is an awesome album too. i'm not writing anything you don't already know. just happy and sharing the moment - i've been trying to get 6:40 all day just to listen to it uninterrupted. finally.
I think I can translate for all who are confused about what MOON138 said...here we go.
"Okay, listen, I'm black, straight up from the hood, I listen to Biggie and 2Pac but I still think the shit is awesome! They know how to really go hard and play their instruments, I don't really care about this type of music but I like this!! And that drummer is great! Those guys are awesome."
@GameCherryDotCom I agree, but I've been hearing that for years and I don't think we'll ever get it. Maybe when Metallica dies and somebody buys their music it may be remastered but honestly I don't care if they never do remaster it because it sound pretty kickass without bass
@Darkit2099 I feel that is why the album is looked at as their best because of the lack of bass guitar, then after people fell in love with it they dissect it and want even more perfection. I for some reason have always been able to hear the bass guitar in the original studio album.
And lo, we heard Jason, and Jason was good; Jason was great and righteous. Let all who walk in Jason's shadow tremble with fear at His might and skill. Long was the way and hard was the road that, for Jason, out of Hell led up to light...
This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than the original mix. Thank you for proving once again that the bass is a force to be reckoned with lol.
I would make love to that bassline and tone. That is the perfect album mix. And it still baffles me as to why the hell they left that bass track out. I agree with everyone else when I say it needs a remastering. If the whole thing would sound like this, I would get rid of my old one completely.
Wow! The Bass gives that Song an other view of the Song. I always thought that the Bass plays exactly like the rhytm guitar, but that vid shows it. Great! Love it! :D
@DLI848 I would say due to Jame's and Lar's inability to deal with Cliff's death they took it out on Jason. I mean they hazed him horribly. Also, they said that they weren't as confident in Jason since he didn't do much in the way of creativity. So they lowered the bass to barley audible levels then cut the dBs in half. Stupid move.
@Pimetalz Thanks for replying, man! Yeah, I saw them talk about it in a video. Very stupid move. I personally thought his basslines in this album were excellent.
@DLI848 You only have to look at Dyers Eve. Shit. I can't even do that with a pick, let alone my fingers. Plus, I love Jason's bass tone, its fat and has a bite.
@Pimetalz Yeah dude. That shit's great! What an underrated bass player. Of course he's not the greatest, but give some respect to the man. He over-fulfilled his objective of laying down the lows.
@DLI848 I agree, probably the best bassist in terms of live performances. I mean we have to take in the consideration that he was filling Cliff's shoes. No other bassist could've done it like Jason. Too bad he never gets that much respect.
@DLI848 I agree, although Cliff was a genius at composing songs, he wasn't the best bassist ever. He had all the potential though, but was cut short by his death.
@PoVerslaWe Nah, I don't think the band wouldn't do that because, what's the point of finding another bassist of his volume is so low, but I do know they did turned down his volume just to fuck with him

sadly your wrong. most recording professionals agree that this original recording was way to hollow sounding. nowadays, of course the bass would be turned up for a heavier sound and maybe even the snare. i worked with professionals in recording studios over the last decade and would have to respectfully disagree.
So let me get tis straight... the reason it didnt sound like this on the original album was because James and Lars thought it would be funny to "turn the bass down" as a joke?? Well, after millions of releases of the album, and the fact that people are still listening to this today, seems like kind of a harse practical joke/prank if ya ask me..
Great job and thanks for the vid Toastmaster89! Gives a whole new effect to a great song ive loved for years, the way it SHOULD have sounded!
I've always loved this album. It should be re-released, either like this or with Rob completely replacing the bass track. It is a crime that this amazing album was weakened by a petty need to discount the new bass player.
It should be released like this, maybe with a little tweaking so the bass isn't overpowering and it fits in the mix a bit better. If Rob re-recorded it, it would seem like a slight to Jason, and I don't think the band would want to do that (esp. Rob, out of respect)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this sounds worse than the original boomin bass production, which incidentally is my only complaint about this awsome album. bass overkill man. i bet the person that did this is a bass player lol.
i think instead of writing new music metallica should just re release this album with the bass turned up

sadly your wrong. most recording professionals agree that this original recording was way to hollow sounding. nowadays, of course the bass would be turned up for a heavier sound and maybe even the snare. i worked with professionals in recording studios over the last decade and would have to respectfully disagree.

but the bass was turned up too loud here
there still should be balance

So let me get tis straight... the reason it didnt sound like this on the original album was because James and Lars thought it would be funny to "turn the bass down" as a joke?? Well, after millions of releases of the album, and the fact that people are still listening to this today, seems like kind of a harse practical joke/prank if ya ask me..
Great job and thanks for the vid Toastmaster89! Gives a whole new effect to a great song ive loved for years, the way it SHOULD have sounded!

not a joke, it was meant to show the emptiness of cliff in the band since he died.

my favorite metallica album. with the enhanced bass, it is EASILY one of the best albums ever recorded

I've always loved this album. It should be re-released, either like this or with Rob completely replacing the bass track. It is a crime that this amazing album was weakened by a petty need to discount the new bass player.

yea like a remastered version with the original bass tracks louder and better mixing would be great
Aviii 2 years ago
It should be released like this, maybe with a little tweaking so the bass isn't overpowering and it fits in the mix a bit better. If Rob re-recorded it, it would seem like a slight to Jason, and I don't think the band would want to do that (esp. Rob, out of respect)
SchizophobicBand 2 years ago
It should be re-released with Jason's original bass. Just listen the bass only version, it's so fucking TIGHT.

@ekleve
Rob? No thanks. Not a good idea to turn one of metal's greatest albums into some revisionary/redux/remake bullshit...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this sounds worse than the original boomin bass production, which incidentally is my only complaint about this awsome album. bass overkill man. i bet the person that did this is a bass player lol.
