The singers are so good. I'm sure that angels in heaven have the same voice as this beautiful and amazing soprano...her voice is going deeply inside me, like i knew her before i was born! Mehta can't help kissing her hand, lol!
Jesucirsto! sin palabras!.......la precusion esta divina El timablista se luce, como ejecuta! (minuto 23:09) por Dios!. Grande Metha! Grande!......y por supuesto Beethoven el mejor de todos los tiempos.Bravo!
I have just started learning violin and my teacher asked me to listen to 9th symphony. I have browsed and listened almost every conductor but NO ONE has done it as perfectly as Maestro Mehta. Utter perfection and his calm movements gave this piece the necessary effect.
ZUBIN MEHTA not only one of the BEST CONDUCTORS in the WORLD ever, but a Man interested in all world HUMANITY. Love this Handsome Conductor - all my life!!!! G-d Bless him and his family always for all the glory, joy and care he has brought to this world and still does. No wonder he stays so young. He is even more exciting and gorgeous now than he was in his 20s, 30s ..................... A role model to the world on MANY levels. Hugs, Barbara Todres/NYC
Absolutely outstanding performance. Probably the best one I've heard so far. Especially a great performance by the choir. To me it is especially amazing that you can hardly hear that they are not native speakers.
I have heard Beethoven symphony no 9 for more than 40 years, but I swear this the best playing I ever heard. Viva Japan, Viva Japan Concert and may God help it to overcome this bad event and bless you all.
@SteveAndrewLangford Perhaps you should see, if possible Christian Thieleman's version. It is on Blu Ray and part of the Cycle along with the 7th and 8th (on this particular disc) in which he conducts the Vienna Philharmonic at a slower tempo. Annette Dasch is the Soprano. This version may bring tears to your eyes as it did mine. Warren
Not enough can be said about the enthusiasm of this exceptional choir. Mehta, of course, is the inspiration, but these people unstintingly follow his very fine direction and remain mostly on key. A wonderful accomplishment, considering there wasn't a lot of time fro rehearsals.
@Music2Die4 I said I uploaded the complete version of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the first, second, third, and fourth movements all-in-one in my youtube channel. This Japan relief performance is only the fourth movement of the 9th Symphony.
FABULOUS! Thank you very much, maestro Meta and all the artists involved. We are deeply grateful for all the support given to us from our friends all over the world. "Deine Zauber binden wieder was die Mode streng geteilt." The magic of nature united what the human world divided. We will overcome and keep on going forward thanks to the gift of UNITY.from Japan
This symphony leaves me without words, whenever performed. This performance of the 4th mvmt. was the best I've ever seen. I am deeply, deeply grateful to you for providing this; to Maestro Mehta and the artists performing this eternal piece; and my deepest feelings of camaraderie for the people of Japan. May you continue to heal, with your strength and generosity of spirit.
TREMENDO EL TIMBALISTA, APARTANDO LOS GENEROS, TITO PUENTE PARECIA BRAVO POR ESA EJECUCION, ANIMO PUEBLO DE JAPON!!!!!!!!!!!! PRECIOSA INTERPRETACION.
GRANDE MEHTA
This is indeed a magnificent performance. I always knew that the Japanese had no difficulties with the German language, unlike other nations. Their perfect enunciation of the umlauts needs to be stressed. It is wonderful to hear a foreign choir(and soloists)handle some very difficult words. Bravo, everyone concerned with this concert.
I've never cried at the funerals of family. I've never cried for much of anything, really. Watching this-every time--brings the floodgates. It's the beauty of Beethoven in the face of the staggering loss of life and lifestyle. And still they sing. And they sing and create. And this is the best rendition of the best piece of music I've ever heard. When confronted with an utter rejection of the reason for human existence, present this, please. This is humanity at its best.
Absolutely wonderful ! I was completely under their spell from start to finish. What a truly magnificent performance and how moving to see everyone contributing to the relief fund afterwards. Congratulations to Maestro Mehta.
Now, this is utter perfection! I have never heard a more perfect 9th by anyone, not even by (my favorite) Maestro Toscanini. What a great tribute for the Japanese people during their dark time. May Japan continue to rebuild their beautiful country and prosper anew.
Gracias nuevamente.
Before this my favorite version of the 4th movement was, and for many years, performed by the Berlin Philharmonic, also conducted by Zubin Mehta. But this performance is simply astounding. These people have their hearts in it. I wish them well in their recovery.
I heard this, when i was 16, also from the same conductor on RCA records. Today i am 30 and i love it, even after listening to this for almost 15 years. If you observe the quality of music, its indeed brilliant. A pure genius like Mehta, is from the same country i am from, INDIA. I feel, if you close your eyes and heard this, without knowing where it from, I could have thought its from Europe or USA. But no, Its from Japan, and a spectacle it is. Thank you for posting and God Bless.

Outstanding recording (compared to the other garbage in youtube on #9). Wounderful lyriks, precisely articulated and a perfect orchester! Thanks to the performers & choral who - though not Germans - outperform even recordings from Berlin Phil & Rattle and make life richer! beautiful, a must!!!!!!
@TheTrismegistos The world has forgotten, Tris. There was no looting after the distasters. None. And the Japanese people have not demanded that others come to rescue them. They have not blamed anyone else for their troubles. They are curing themselves. Sadly, none of that is newsworthy in today's world. Salute, Nippon.
@Rikki0 Amazing, isn't it? No looting, no spurious Blame-game, a nation-wide effort (still going on) to relieve those in need and suffering. Yes, it's disgusting that the "seven-second sound-byte" mentality means the distaster is all but forgotten outside of Japan. We ignore such at our own peril though; there are dozens of other reactors of this same generation (GE anyone?) in operation in the world and contamination from This incident is going to endure for a couple centuries as it is.
@Rikki0 Had they no resources of their own they would have responded as any other country the same way. Prior to the tragedy what was their economic condition and what had it been in the not too distant past? Theirs was rivaling possibly surpassing ours. Let's remember people are people where ever you find them and this country is by no means poor.
Beautiful presentation of the 9th and thanks for posting.
@Gary2837 Gary, I've been to Japan a few times. Their economic condition is good, yes. As is ours. But like us, they have poor people. However, the Japanese mindset is different, the way they are raised is different. Their first thought is to overcome adversity. Their poor could have gone on a looting spree as ours do, but that is simply not their way. It's hard to explain if you don't know them. They are still about honor. Not the false honor of pre-WWII, but real honor now.
@Rikki0 I love my country, but I've told many people that if something ever happened that made my country untenable, I would move to Japan.....if they would have me.
