  • By far the best available on the internet..

  • I've heard this 1000 times, but this made me cry.

  • Absolutely spellbinding. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thank you for this video! This made my evening soooo much better!!

  • AWESOME!!

  • The singers are so good. I'm sure that angels in heaven have the same voice as this beautiful and amazing soprano...her voice is going deeply inside me, like i knew her before i was born! Mehta can't help kissing her hand, lol!

Bravo!

  • the greatest symphony of all time :)

  • hay quá !!!!!

  • I have just started learning violin and my teacher asked me to listen to 9th symphony. I have browsed and listened almost every conductor but NO ONE has done it as perfectly as Maestro Mehta. Utter perfection and his calm movements gave this piece the necessary effect.

    True tribute to Japan.

  • very good, Music lover from Taiwan.

  • thank you , i hope japan all the good luck in rebuilding , great people and a nation

  • ZUBIN MEHTA not only one of the BEST CONDUCTORS in the WORLD ever, but a Man interested in all world HUMANITY. Love this Handsome Conductor - all my life!!!! G-d Bless him and his family always for all the glory, joy and care he has brought to this world and still does. No wonder he stays so young. He is even more exciting and gorgeous now than he was in his 20s, 30s ..................... A role model to the world on MANY levels. Hugs, Barbara Todres/NYC

  • I got much courage and hope from this music‼ This is a national anthem of the earth.

  • Absolutely outstanding performance. Probably the best one I've heard so far. Especially a great performance by the choir. To me it is especially amazing that you can hardly hear that they are not native speakers.

  • I have heard Beethoven symphony no 9 for more than 40 years, but I swear this the best playing I ever heard. Viva Japan, Viva Japan Concert and may God help it to overcome this bad event and bless you all.

  • THIS IS A "NO MISTAKE", THE BEST I EVER HEARD, UP JAPAN !! UP ZUBIN METHA !!

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS JEWEL WITH US

  • Not enough can be said about the enthusiasm of this exceptional choir. Mehta, of course, is the inspiration, but these people unstintingly follow his very fine direction and remain mostly on key. A wonderful accomplishment, considering there wasn't a lot of time fro rehearsals.

  • *I've still never seen anything like the Tympanist throwing mallets in that kind of a cross-over (23:08f) before! Tremendous.

  • ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING!

    Barb Todres/NY

  • Beethoven,number one.....always !

  • Maestro Mehta du bist Ein Mensch!!!!

  • One of the best interpretations I have ever listened!

  • This symphony leaves me without words, whenever performed. This performance of the 4th mvmt. was the best I've ever seen. I am deeply, deeply grateful to you for providing this; to Maestro Mehta and the artists performing this eternal piece; and my deepest feelings of camaraderie for the people of Japan. May you continue to heal, with your strength and generosity of spirit.

  • TREMENDO EL TIMBALISTA, APARTANDO LOS GENEROS, TITO PUENTE PARECIA BRAVO POR ESA EJECUCION, ANIMO PUEBLO DE JAPON!!!!!!!!!!!! PRECIOSA INTERPRETACION. QUE GENIO EL DE BEETHOVEN EL MEJOR DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS.

  • Sehr Sehr Sehr Sehr Sehr Sehr Gut!

  • Excellent performance, the best I have ever seen. The soloists are very, very good, each of them.

  • nice......but, the music covered the tenor's voice.....

  • Well done ! & to see our Asiatic brothers and sisters singing in German... Quite a performance with direction of Master Zubin Mehta . !

Here you can see how people can become brothers and sisters worldwide...

  • @AlexStalenberg now you return the favor by singing our songs and dancing to our music - then we'll call everyone brothers and sisters worldwide.

  • Damn a 5 minute applause!! Might have been tiresome but I bet it was worth it!

  • @antonioaugustogurgel

Believe me, if you really enjoyed a performance, a 5 minute applause would go by very quickly.

  • This has to be one of the best performances of the Ode To Joy that I have every seen. Utterly fantastic!

  • DIOS ÉS DIOS!

  • ES LA VOZ DE DIOS HABLÁNDOLE A LA HUMANIDAD.

  • the solists make strange faces but i love their enthusiasm.

  • La obra prima de la musica

  • Que serìa de nosotros sin ustedes, espectacular!!

  • Wonderful!!!

I just don't understand who could dislike such brilliant performance.

    Great!!!

  • thank you , for helping friends of usa (japan)

  • what a beautiful voice!

    thank you Mehta!!!

  • This is indeed a magnificent performance. I always knew that the Japanese had no difficulties with the German language, unlike other nations. Their perfect enunciation of the umlauts needs to be stressed. It is wonderful to hear a foreign choir(and soloists)handle some very difficult words. Bravo, everyone concerned with this concert.

  • can someone please create streaming subtitles the the vocals!!!!!!

  • @Mr1957safari

Here's a version with English subtitles

  • I've never cried at the funerals of family. I've never cried for much of anything, really. Watching this-every time--brings the floodgates. It's the beauty of Beethoven in the face of the staggering loss of life and lifestyle. And still they sing. And they sing and create. And this is the best rendition of the best piece of music I've ever heard. When confronted with an utter rejection of the reason for human existence, present this, please. This is humanity at its best.

  • Absolutely wonderful ! I was completely under their spell from start to finish. What a truly magnificent performance and how moving to see everyone contributing to the relief fund afterwards. Congratulations to Maestro Mehta.

  • Gracias Beethoven, gracias Mehta!!!!!!

  • Uma apresentação irrepreensível!! Magnífica, retumbante! Técnica impecável, simplesmente maravilhosa apresentação! Bravo!!!

  • amazing! awesome! unspechless!

  • Excellent. Very powerful performance. I like it!!

  • Extraordinaria interpretación, cantantes y orquesta¡¡¡ Emocionante¡¡¡ Insuperable Mehta¡¡¡ Celestial Beethoven¡¡¡

  • Was this concert released commercially?

  • Now, this is utter perfection! I have never heard a more perfect 9th by anyone, not even by (my favorite) Maestro Toscanini. What a great tribute for the Japanese people during their dark time. May Japan continue to rebuild their beautiful country and prosper anew.

  • Female contrabassoonist! That's new to me.

  • Attended this wonderful concert...it was one of the best that i had ever seen

  • I LOVE LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN , ZUBIN MEHTA AND JAPAN.I BEAUTIFUL

  • BRAVO Mehta!Bravi tutti!!!

  • I like this song very much, it always brings me a lot of spirit in my life. great job for beethoven, and great job for this orchestra

  • Before this my favorite version of the 4th movement was, and for many years, performed by the Berlin Philharmonic, also conducted by Zubin Mehta. But this performance is simply astounding. These people have their hearts in it. I wish them well in their recovery.

  • I heard this, when i was 16, also from the same conductor on RCA records. Today i am 30 and i love it, even after listening to this for almost 15 years. If you observe the quality of music, its indeed brilliant. A pure genius like Mehta, is from the same country i am from, INDIA. I feel, if you close your eyes and heard this, without knowing where it from, I could have thought its from Europe or USA. But no, Its from Japan, and a spectacle it is. Thank you for posting and God Bless.

  • lol, the timpanist was rocking it out at the end! xD

Anyway, a great performance by the NHK Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Chorus. This blows away the other performances of the 9th here on YouTube.

  • Schiller sung in a japanese accent is the cutest thing ;). On a serious note, one of the best performances I have heard.

  • awesome performence !!

  • Outstanding recording (compared to the other garbage in youtube on #9). Wounderful lyriks, precisely articulated and a perfect orchester! Thanks to the performers & choral who - though not Germans - outperform even recordings from Berlin Phil & Rattle and make life richer! beautiful, a must!!!!!!

  • There's almost nothing left in the news about Japan, Fukushima1 and the earthquake these days (here in Germany)....the world has already forgotten.

I hope Japan will overcome these difficult times!

  • @TheTrismegistos The world has forgotten, Tris. There was no looting after the distasters. None. And the Japanese people have not demanded that others come to rescue them. They have not blamed anyone else for their troubles. They are curing themselves. Sadly, none of that is newsworthy in today's world. Salute, Nippon.

  • @Rikki0 Amazing, isn't it? No looting, no spurious Blame-game, a nation-wide effort (still going on) to relieve those in need and suffering. Yes, it's disgusting that the "seven-second sound-byte" mentality means the distaster is all but forgotten outside of Japan. We ignore such at our own peril though; there are dozens of other reactors of this same generation (GE anyone?) in operation in the world and contamination from This incident is going to endure for a couple centuries as it is.

  • @Rikki0 Had they no resources of their own they would have responded as any other country the same way. Prior to the tragedy what was their economic condition and what had it been in the not too distant past? Theirs was rivaling possibly surpassing ours. Let's remember people are people where ever you find them and this country is by no means poor.

Beautiful presentation of the 9th and thanks for posting.

  • @Gary2837 Gary, I've been to Japan a few times. Their economic condition is good, yes. As is ours. But like us, they have poor people. However, the Japanese mindset is different, the way they are raised is different. Their first thought is to overcome adversity. Their poor could have gone on a looting spree as ours do, but that is simply not their way. It's hard to explain if you don't know them. They are still about honor. Not the false honor of pre-WWII, but real honor now.

  • @Rikki0 I love my country, but I've told many people that if something ever happened that made my country untenable, I would move to Japan.....if they would have me.

  • beautiful!!!

  • awesome!

  • very nice thanks thumbs up
