  • hes another way to make a hei mask u will need pva glue paint paint brush newspaper ballons tape measure first rip newspapers 6inc to 8 inc long and 1 inch high then measure your head blow a ballon as same size as your head and how wide your head is. after that put pva all over the ballon then stick the news papers and wait 4 days for it to dry. next u pop da ballon it should come out a size for your head then paint it white wait for an hour or 2 then paint it like heis mask bye :)
  • thx i have finally made a hei mask after 4 years thx for updating this :)

  • your's looks amazing! i want to try this now. what do you think the difficulty level of this project is?

  • @GreenGold33 Lol, so true. I'm going to try making this for Halloween and AX next year -:D let the work commence

  • thats sick.

  • What if you have a very long and thin face like Hei lol I think if you tried to cut it that much it wouldn't have the curve to it and just be flat also it takes 2 days of drying ?

  • hey sorry to bother you again lol but seems i cant find any gesso is there anything else i can use other than gesso?

  • @KojiPhoenix Really? They always have gesso at any art store. Another option would probably just to get newspaper as flat as possible when gluing. If you can do that, then you can just paint it with mulitple layers of white.

Yea mine wasnt flat enough so I had to use gesso to even it out. Good luck.

  • could one like put the glue water in the refrigerator and use it some other time?

  • @KojiPhoenix Yea I don't see why not its just glue, just put some plastic over it and it should be fine.

  • @hijeri

thanks by the way is the exacto knife necessary ?also should i put in all the glue int he water or not?i once did a vase in art class this way but not with gesso the teacher did a mix of glue and beach sand i think it was

  • @KojiPhoenix not necessary, if you have any other sharp knives it should work. You don't need that much glue, just start with some, it should last you awhile. Rinse and repeat if you run out. I usually add half the amount of water to the amount of glue used.

  • @hijeri ok thanks i think im just gonna start and then wait till i get the gesso to continue

  • @WolfxGirlxRyuzaki It has to stick to balloon to make the correct shape, once you pop it, the balloon should be easy to remove. Smells fine in my opinion, and as long as your don't sweat like crazy you can wear it for as long as you want.

  • What is that song?

  • lol this is what hei has to do every time one of his masks breaks

  • Nice mask! A bit off topic...but what artist and song is this?

  • @MarcusCorvinusVII (uploader) haitoku no jounetsu by high and mighty color

  • You could also take sun glass shades and glue them to one side of the mask to cover your eyes

  • And in addition, do you think its a good idea to use gesso when making the daggr to making all sleak and bad ass like?

  • @AC2cool i dont see why not, i use gesso to make dagger turned out nice. =)

  • Dude you save me a lot of trouble! Sakura con is in 30 days and i need to complete this. Thank you very much!

  • Can't wait to try this out. What would you say (advice wise) if i tried poppoing the balloon, cutting out holes, and replacing the holes with sunglass lens' and putting a layer on each side of the mask?

  • @holdxonx182 you could do that but just putting the lenses behind the back is more than enough. I used those black see through stretch fabric. Good Luck!

  • Im currently trying to make this mask, but as im from sweden i don't really know what gesso is. Could you please describe what the product is used for normally so i can try to find it here in sweden.

  • And if not avalible in sweden, any other likewise product.

  • @SuperTeruChan its a primer to build a base, it makes the mask look more smooth and it is easier to paint on. Should be available at any art supply, since lot of artist use it.

  • defiantly going to cosplay as hei at my next con

  • I really like this mask! My only problems are that the eyes are a little misshapen and the lightning bolt is a little bluish. Awesome tutorial though. Just a question. How easy is this to make, and how long does it take? I have almost 0 experience in art related things. That mask looks sick though and I would like to make one too. :]

  • Its quite easy to make, took about 2 days cuz you gota let the paper mache and gesso dry.

Also I made the eyes and color my way so it wasn't exact, I wanted it to look more scarier rather the anime is more comical.

  • i have some problem when i applied the gesso on the mask. the surface of the mask will break

  • Just slap a thick layers on the cracks, once it drys just sand it down. Don't be afraid if it's all lumpy since it is sandable.

  • i had apply lots of gesso, the layer very thick now. what do you mean "sand it down"?

  • Using sandpaper, gives it a smooth surface. If you just leave it like, that it will be rough and uneven. You don't need to sand it like crazy, just enough to make the face look smooth and even.

  • but my problem is the gesso will break

  • ok, i will try my best

  • erm... what is gesso? does it expensive?

  • base layer to keep it smooth cost around 3-5 bucks

  • ok, thanks :D

  • THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO DUDE =D....

    but....

can you make more details for the bolt at the eye??

cuz when i see the anime the bolt was not look like that....

    But thanks dough...

  • I cant really give any detail on the bolt since it was hard finding a clear picture of just the bolt alone. So I had to free hand it myself based on where the corners ended at. If you browse through the comments it tells you how I did it.

  • i'll give you the picture after i come home from school k dude ^^....

  • Mine won't sand... so I have a beasty Wrinkly Hei mask.

  • Either your not using enough layers for gesso or you not using the right sand paper. I started out with a rough sand paper then moved on the a more smooter sand paper.

  • ok, thank you ^-^

  • also, could multi-purpose paint varnish be used aswell?

  • yes as long as it is clear mine had semi gloss to it

  • would the Acrylic sealer be used before or after paining the mask?

  • yes after painting

  • the thing i would use for the eyes would be black glass like on sunglasses ._.

  • pssssst hikeri awsome vid but i got a question could u tell me how u got the paint design so perfectly on the mask?

  • I used a piece of print paper and drew out the bolt a nice as I could. Then i cut out the shape and traced it on the mask. When painting I taped the outline so I wouldnt have to worry about being messy. Hoped that helped ya

  • alright thanks, i'm going to make this my project for this coming month. hopefully i can make it in time for halloween.

  • thank you so much for the tutorial, i am getting a hei cosplay from a designer in Hong Kong, but he could not set me up with the mask, therefore making one myself seems to be the logical option.

    Thanks.

  • no problem and good luck

  • Thanks Again.

Um, If I can ask, do you find the process of creating your own cosplay items difficult, or dos it get easier with time.

As I have little artistic and creative ability I find the process a bit daunting

  • Well this was my first cosplay, so I was a newbie at it. It took me 2 tries to do it.

In my opinion it does get easier to make your own items. Just do some research on what you want to make.

Heck I was afraid to make my own items, but then I said screw it, I'll give it a shot. Plus completing the task makes you feel great.

  • I didi use a transparent black cloth when I cosplayed it. Personally I didn't like eyes in anime since it looked meh to me. Instead I made it look more scary rather humorous.

You have to take it into account that everyones face is different to make a perfect fit so saying it has to be perfect is out of the question.

  • Oh, the mask don't match with the original format. I think you can do much better if you use the same way, but you need to pay more atention in the shape of mask and the details. In the eyes you can put some cloth, like Tully, it's a very nice cloth and have a good transparency. I hope help you. Goodbye

  • Lol thanks for the vid, very helpful ^^, i also think you should get like a black cloth or something black you can see through and glue it over the eyes, but thats just me lol

  • waht is the name of the song being played

  • haitoku no jounetsu by high and mighty color

  • this helps a hella alot. thank you. now my cosplay is complete, I thought I was gonna have to either order it or use a mask from hobby lobby :D

  • good luck =)

  • awsome thanks for the help!!!!!

  • thanks i need this mask to make a cosplay x3

  • no problem, if you still have problems feel free to ask

  • Love it! Thank you for the help! :D
