  • @davo666ify La URSS murio XD

    Viva USA

  • All those fuckying pro-US States which boycotted 1980 Summer Olympics would happily participate in the 84' LA Games, despite of US invasion of Granade in 1983.

  • first country entry greece, next yeAar wchich they will come for the light again and for ever we will ask all receives and money if they want the light

  • Events aimed at promoting international relations should of course not be boycotted (unless you're boycotting the Olympic committee or something like that), and I'm glad my country participated this year. :)

  • Once more, Moscow in 21C! cause our country(Japan and (South)Korea)was boycott for 1980 games, unfortunately.

  • We have come a very long way since then

  • Were the 1980 Summer Olympics shown on American TV at all? If so, what network?

  • @cloudeleven NBC had the broadcast rights. With the boycott, they produced small highlight packages for their stations, but not every station aired them

  • Comment removed

  • Haha what country is that at 4:44?! That's the most bizarre mix of people I've seen at the games.

  • @dancraggs That's Spain

  • fuck the ussr im glad the us boycotted it

  • @JACKRAMBO66 fuck you, im glad you're an asswipe

  • My aunt was here! I envy her so much : )

  • @FallenComrades Russia is gay. Communism is for retards too stupid to hold a job which is why Russians love communism.

  • I'm glad to see my country's flag marching in this magnificent event. Greetings from Brazil to the peoples of the countries of the former Soviet Union.

  • @tiagomariano : idiot

  • Russians are so cheesy. They have no sense of style.

  • Notice how they're not marching under their country's flags, but the olympic flag to symbolize that they aren't allies with these communist pigs.

  • Can you upload the rest of the parade of nations

  • 2:44 Go Australia.

  • The singer sounds like Saruman!

  • letting the ussr host the olympic games is one of the biggest mistakes in a sporting history

  • @Tanze89

Really? Why? because of the 1980s communist regime and the then Afghanistan invasion? And letting the 2008 Games go to China, with its obscene commercalism, ethnic suppression, terrible environmental and human rights record, is not? What about the USA (1996, 2002), an even more commercial country who has invaded Iraq and Afghanistan for no reason, an artificial country with an idiotic people with no historical perspective and who cannot even find Iraq on the map? Grow up, baby!

  • @Tanze89 no

  • 2014 going back

  • omg look at the contrast in heights of the little girl in front and the huge black man behind her @ 4:44 lol

  • no doubt the greatest games ever i lived in britain back then, i wonder were they ever televised in the states cause if not , what a spectable was missed and to watch alan wells win the 100 metres made me proud to be british and scottish.

  • @ 2:44 that's our nation

  • THE MOST MAGNIFICENT OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY EVER!!!

  • The best ceremony I ever saw at the OG.

  • The USA should have shown up ready to beat the Soviets in the medal count. It would have been lovely and more meaningful than a boycott

  • best olympic games - China !

  • Communism is completely in harmony with nature. Man devises more and more ways of defeating disease, so something must exist to check the balance.

  • Governments had no right to tell athletes they can't go. It should be up to each individual. US talk about freedom but they denied their own citizens the freedom of choice.

  • long live the soviet union in the hearts of peoples lives and equality of American capitalism and collaborators damn

  • The glorious Brazilian Flag at 3:10 . The greatest country on Earth!

    Pátria Amada, Brasil.

  • @TheMrRanna The very best of luck to your country as Rio hosts its Summer Games. Many of us here in the USA look forward to it!

  • @nightswimmer99 Many thanks. At this moment, a great number of armed forces is retaking the controled regions of the drug trafic (see more at BBC or Reuters website). Very soon, Rio will retake the title of "Wonderful City".

  • @TheMrRanna Aren't they just a buch a transvestites?

  • @rimidalv47 No, they aren't. Drug traffic is a world-wide problem. My country at least doesn't have the greatest number of consumers.

  • @TheMrRanna What the hell are you talking 'bout?Im talking about Man-Bitches!!

  • @rimidalv47 Yes, and that's what I don't understand? What's the conection with my last comentary?

  • @TheMrRanna You said Brasil is a great country, then i say "aren't they just a bunch a trannies"then you start talkin 'bout drugs, then i say "what the fuck you talkin 'bout?",then now you talkin 'bout some comentary and now you startin to confuse the hell out of me.

  • @rimidalv47 There's some kind of confusion here.

Lets start of the beggining! XD

You say: Aren't they just a buch a transvestites?

My Answer: No. This is some kind of steriotype that we doesn't tolerate.

  • @MisterMinnesota I agree. Especially the gymnastics event.

  • Slava sovietskii soyuz!

  • Carter was the WORST President in the USA. What a stupid bastard he was.

  • Only who lived in Soviet Union, knew the turth of Soviet Union. The rest of you just saying whatever you have been taught for so many years from brain-washing Media and politicians.Comparing to the USA,Soviet Union was much more peaceful.Check out at the planet we are living now.The planet is rulled by the America, which is causing wars over and over again just to satisfy it's economical interests. That's disgusting!

  • The American sportscaster doesn't translate exactly the same thing. To be correct he is saying totally diferrent things

  • China and Albania were the only communist nations that boycotted the Moscow Olympics.

At the closing ceremony, the flag of Los Angeles, not the American flag, was raised to symbolize the next host of the 1984 Olympics.

  • what country is the one with the green flag with a red star at 4 : 35 ?

  • @jeanmarcARG It's the flag of Benin when it was the People's Republic of Benin.

  • @nygiantsfan6 thank you.

  • Beautiful rememberings. I am very proud of Brazil when I know my country didn't boykott the most emotioning games ever because of political motives. And Brazil was a dictatorship backed by the USA. Misha was great. I was only seven y.o. but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for the party, Russia! Also remarkable: Olympic Games back to its homeland, Greece. Thanks, too, Greece!

  • 5:23 THIS IS VLADIMIR PUTIN !!!!!!

  • @takano400 ))))))))))

  • This one made cry... Thank you Russian people :) We love you!!!! Hugs from Greece!

  • the most beautiful Olympic games opening ceremony...ever!..in HISTORY!!!

  • To be fair, Soviet did much more to fight corruption, to improve conditions for human rights, and improving the living conditions for women in Afghanistan than NATO is doing right now.

...and that comes from an anti-communist! ;)

  • @jabajabamaster HI IM AN ANTI-COMMUNIST BUT I THINK COMMUNISM IS BETTER THAN FREEDOM ;) ;) ;)

  • @jabajabamaster during Brežnev's era, Soviet union was in stagnation, wich meant that development in any area had stopped. thyat included social sector, economical sector, cultural sector ect.

  • @jabajabamaster RESPECT

  • Moscow was the first city to have showed that ancient Greece was the reason for all this!!

  • @jabajabamaster You must be joking, man. You obviously know very little about Soviet Union. People were afraid to think that they have rights. There were no human rights at all. Corruption was so big, that post soviet countries still have to deal with remains of it today.

And what has NATO to do with improving living conditions?

  • А кто поёт?

  • @wasawasapp

    Магомаев неужель не узнать?

  • @MarshallJukov

О, Магомаев! Смотрю, голос знакомый))) Спасибо!

  • LONG LIVE THE SPARTAKIAD!

  • Fantastic. Probably the best Olympic opening ever! They always do it. Every time there is a sporting even, there it is - Tchaikovsky's 6th. Love it!

  • Pity many countries did'nt participate to see it lol

i do remember it well though ( along with it's trademark song by Genghis Khan - Moscow ) ...seems like friggin 50 years ago now, that song will always remind me of that era, there's no way of escaping it

  • I think it was stupid to boycot the Olympics because it is what the Games are about, meeting new friends and beeing together with people from all over the world despite different political situation or differences in opinions...And the most pittiful thing is that the Soviet Union boycot the Games 4 years later making other countries (those which were under the siege of Communistic party) to boycot as well even though the did usually disagree with that...and I hope it will never happen again...

  • @STEPA1994 - I wonder what it was like in Moscow during the closing cermonies. Handing over from Moscow to Los Angeles.

  • Such a shame so many countries boycott. The Olympics should be abut sport, not politics.

  • @rog197236

i think you a faggot just like the rest of your crowd , i m not able to call the zoo you re a part of a nation ( because its not))) . so yea you calling me a punk but have nothing to back it up with , except lots of comments to this vid. thats very brave of you. you must be training both hands - one on the keyboard , another under the table, going up and down . keep being proud to be scum of earth a k a AM3RIKAN , thats your personal problem son

  • Let's refrain from using homophobic language...it doesn't serve your point and is simply offensive to the gay men and women who want to watch the video....

  • see , i m not as much homophobic , as i cant stand morons . gays do not disgust me , even tho i hate it when anyone s acting inappropriate , if you know what i mean . and i ve used the word faggot in my post @ rog 197236 because i think that he or whatever it is deserves nothing but a middle finger up in the air and my russian foot up in the ass.

  • I understand that the other user has frustrated you, but I think that it is "acting inappropriate" to use language that is very offensive to some of the viewers. Maybe you should just stick with "moron"...

Thanks for listening and responding! Good luck w/ ur YouTube adventures!

  • you made a good point - it is inappropriate to be offensive to others , and i respect that . i sure have not meant for anybody to take personal my post to someone else , if it makes sense. however , the offensive language that i have happen to notice in that other persons post to me have not been ignored , thats why i came back with what i came back with . but like i said i had no intentions in getting anyone else upset but that certain person. i hope i had my point across , and thanx 4 ur time

  • Ohhhh oh so polite now,,,,LMFAO!!!!!!

  • i could tell you more straight to the point and save on some characters - if that is what you getting at

  • @rog197236 OMG will you people please stop fighting and take this pointless argument elsewhere!?

  • things were so much more special then

  • Moscow 1980 was the best olympics I seen....second was Sydney!!

  • I love my country, but by no means are we the best at making decisions. We do stupid things that I don't agree with all the time, one of them being boycotting the 1980 Olympics. Seriously? The Olympics are a beautiful thing. The world can forget about its conflicts and unite in sport. Just because it was in the Soviet Union, we had to get in a hissy fit and boycott. Come on! It's the one thing that brings us together. Moscow was chosen by the IOC fair and square. It's not like they bribed them.

  • I'm totally with you on that!! sports brings nation together...politics just divided ....sports and politics not a good match!

  • I very much love my country too but at the same time i do support and stand behind america by no means do i care for Barack Obama as i did not vote for him nor do i even consider him my leader but back to the Moscow games do you not understand why america had boycott the games in the first place?.What happened less than 6 months prior to the games?.The soviet goverment is by no means innocent or played fair and square.Oh don't tell me that Stalin is innocent himself too?

  • Yes, I know what happened. The Soviets started their occupation of Afghanistan, one of their allies. The communist Afghan government was corrupt, but it was much better than the Taliban ruled country that we partially created by helping the "freedom fighters". Why wouldn't a country help their ally in a time of need? The truth is, if it was a country we liked in Afghanistan and the Olympics were in their country, we wouldn't have boycotted. Also, even the Soviets thought Stalin was bad.

  • A country help their ally in need...mygiantsfan6 you got to be kidding me?.I mean we are talking about the Soviet Union...right?

  • @nygiantsfan6

It wasnt occupation we entered by request and to help Afgani goverment to fight CIA sponsored coup and insurgency. Afganistan always was our ally actualy - you misinformed by propaganda

  • @nygiantsfan6 see, that is pretty adequate judgement . taliban was trained to the best of my knowledge by some NATO ppl and look what it led to 21 years after the Moscow olympics.

  • @spb2NM well considering Russia and the USSR are the most corrupt and totalitarian countries in the history of mankind, i'm not sure what you mean.

  • @ rog197236:

Are you referring to when the Soviet Union sent its army to Afghanistan, a country where the government had been begging the Soviets to send troops to help them for over a year?

Why was that worse than the U.S sending its troops to occupy Vietnam? It's funny the way people talk. Like the U.S was just fine in sending its troops to Vietnam, but the Soviet Union was so evil for going to Afghanistan when the Afghans had been begging for Soviet help.

    Double standards. *eyeroll*

  • When you come up with a better comment i will be more than happy to reply educate yourself

    double standards...lol

  • You didn't vote for Obama so you don't consider him your president???? What's the matter with you? He won the election decisively, unlike Bush who was installed by Republican Supreme Court members. My guess is that you are one of those right-wing nuts who are ruining our wonderful country....

  • Like i said i love my country im proud to be an AMERICAN but Obama is not my president and you my friend sound like on of them left-wing nuts WHO ARE RUINING OUR COUNTRY and by no means do i vote for the party i VOTE for the person...by the way we are suppose to be talking about the Moscow games...right?

  • You are absolutely right. Ditto on the 1984 Summer Games, when the Soviet Union boycotted, just to get back at the U.S. It's just like you said. The Olympics are the only time when the world puts aside all differences and just have fun in each other's company. It's too bad it couldn't be all the time.

  • Well that is not the world we live in is it?.But speak for yourself next time please!.Otherwise you seem like a nice guy though.

  • @nygiantsfan6 thats not why nyg. I think we boycoted it in 1980 to protest the soviet invasion of afghanistan. lol ironic i know. that was a bad choice we should had attended the 1980

  • @nygiantsfan6 The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan a few months earlier was the main reason for the US boycott. Still doesn't make it right but it had nothing to do with the IOC.

  • @nygiantsfan6 The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan a few months earlier was the main reason the US boycotted as a protest. Still doesn't make it right but it had nothing to do with the IOC.

  • @onamission2000 I know. That's what I'm saying. Moscow was chosen fairly by the IOC just like every city before it. Why couldn't we just accept that?

  • @nygiantsfan6 we did accept it. but they choose the olympic host cities several olympics in advance. we already knew Moscow was going to be the host city and we accepted it. then they invaded Afghanistan in 1979. we gave them an ultimatum that we wouldn't compete, and they didn't listen.

  • @onamission2000 The soviets did not invade afghanistan. The democratic Afghan government asked for military aid as there was difficulties containing and controlling the terrorist organization Mujahedin which was funded mainly by USA and Saudi Arabia.

  • @nygiantsfan6 the fact that it was in the Soviet Union wasn't the reason we boycotted. we boycotted because the USSR invaded Afghanistan in 1979. President Carter issued an ultimatum that if the USSR didn't leave Afghanistan by Feb. 20th, 1980, we would boycott the Olympic Games. they never withdrew. we and a bunch of other countries boycotted.

  • Do you think Beijing planned their ceremonies with "How can we top Moscow?" 1. Moscow 2. Sydney 3. Beijing 4. Salt Lake City 5. Barcelona 6. Lillehammer 7. Athens 8. Berlin 9. Nagano 10. Torino
  • Beijing might've been the most technological and modern opening ceremonies...

...but nothing compares with talent, imagination, and elegance; that is what Moscow 1980 is made of! Great Olympics!

  • yes i agree with you..the Moscow games Opening ceremony was the best!

  • Weird seeing the old Lenin stadium with no roof.

  • коммунизм))

  • VIVA LA URSS su olimpiadas no han podido ser comparadas con ninguna otra ni los chinos pudieron compararse esto demuestra el poder del comunismo

  • The Best Olympic Games in the WORLD!!!

  • I saw 1st part of Barcelona 1992 and got bord after I had already seen the one of 2008 Beiging... so I would have to say the more updated the better lol but because I was born 8,8,1980 and my mom saw the torch passed on from Russian to Romania I would have to say this is the best one :D

  • i m glad your so called country boycotted the 80th olympics. look how beautiful it turned out) i believe its cuz damn yankees never showed up. indeed) and if you still trying to argue - watch the video and most importantly read the comments of the ppl all over the world . and maybe your calculator-style brain gets it

  • Why don't you explain it to me again punk!.You and your so called Russia...please!!!!

  • These Olympic games were so important for USSR: finally the world has recognised us, we are hosting the games!

Mavus, spot on, man. If there were millions who died in the name of Communism, I am sure there are billions who have died and are dying in the name of Capitalism. I am not even talking about those who died in the name of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

  • Dude you have no fucking clue as to what your talking about for one thing you can't even compare capitalism with communism...DO WE NOT KNOW WHO UNCLE JOE IS???????

  • This is so bizarre. Everything is so fine and well. And the same time the normal people doesn`t have anything they need. :(((

  • shut up. u dont know what you´re taliking about. i know that you stupid finns have something against the ussr, but why wont you just stop telling lies? seriously.

  • they had lots of food, water, clothes, etc. they just werent rich. but they also werent poor.

  • No? They starved like 10 million ppl to death in Hungary, so stop fuckin around dude.

  • wtf? what are you talking about? just stfu. or give me some proofs of what you´re saying, otherwise that is bullshit.

  • Forget the starvation in Hungary (or if it was Ukraine?) that's a piece of cake anyway. 50 000 000 ppl died unaturally between 1924 and 1953, EXCLUDING world war II. Stalin is said to be responsible for around 20 000 000 of them, still excluding world war II. Overall communism has caused 100 000 000 deaths all within less than 90 years. look it up yourself, I don't give a fuck if you believe in it or not, anyway.

  • it was in ukraine obviously. that I believe. and yeah "communism" killed 100.000.000 ppl. to bad that those deaths were caused by stalinism and maoism. im a marxist-leninist and so was brejnev. stalinism and maoism are total bastardizations of communism. tell me now how many people have been killed in marxist-leninist countries? 50000?

  • The Russian civil war, fought by Lenin between 1917 and 1924 caused 10 000 000 deaths.

  • on both sides dumbass. and wars dont count. if they counted the usa would be the worst country in the world so shut up.

  • Dude, you obviously don't know about Lenin's security police killing more people between 1917 and 1924 without a trial than the whole amount of casualties from the civil war? Soviet forced collective farming, causing starvation for 40 000 000 ppl, where 6-8 000 000 got killed.

Sure! like Lenin was a fucking saint.

  • LOL stop lying... lenin´s secret police killed yes, in the middle of a revolution is impossible not to kill, but they didnt kill that many for sure. and the collective farming FROM STALIN not from lenin didnt kill anyone...

  • look it up then. you're living in a lie. Understandable if you are Belarussian or from a similare dictatorship, otherwise you're lost. You're just like the neo-nazis denying the Holocaust.

  • you said that the collective farming was from lenin, when it really isnt, and you also said that LENIN´s secret police killed more than 10,000,000 ppl which is a ridiculous lie. so whatever.

  • and i meant wasnt not isnt.

  • I said soviet had collective farming, which was a part of the plan economy they, and Lenin strived for. Stalin just pushed the button. Yes, Lenin's secret police stood for half of the amount of casualties in the Russian civil war. I'm possitive. Bottom line is that he fought against man's free will - one of the fundamental rights of being human.

  • And even if Communism has killed 100,000,000 people. Your response should be "How many people do you think capitalism is killing?" Every death from poverty, every death in a third world country is caused by capitalism.

  • You too are another one who has no fucking idea fusking bullshit lies i see on here on a daily basis it's unreal...are you retarded?

  • vot eto bily vremena!! u menya daze sleza visla//// esi si que eran tiempos!! incluso me salido una lagrima

  • 28 years later, china kicks the Russian opening ceremony's add. China kicked everyone's ass. New world order.... for better or worse

  • china?you are kid....a what i whant american citizen...

  • 28 years later? DUDE thats was 28 yrs ago

  • Poor Marcos the philippine athletes wouldnt' parade the stages

  • What footage is this, US only aired bits of the games due to boycott and I can't imagine this being Gostelradio

  • Wish each other success And kindness, and love without end ... The Olympic rings Echo It remains in the verses and in the hearts. Goodbye, Moscow, Goodbye! Olympic tale, Farewell! Wished the realization of dreams, New friends wanted to meet. Refrain: Would be departing friends. It remains at the heart of tenderness ... We will cherish the song. Good-bye, to further meetings.
  • On the platform becomes a quieter ...

    Melting faster time of miracles.

    Goodbye our sweet Misha

Return to your fairy tale forest.

Do not be sad, smile at the goodbye,

    I recall those days, I remember ...

    Wished the realization of dreams,

    New meetings, we all desire.

  • Could someone tell me what country is marching in at 4:10? I can't make it out on the banner.

  • The flag of the Spanish Olympic Committee.

  • excuse me,

what is the name of the music that we can listen while the delegations of the states are passing?

    Thank you!

  • Stadion moyey myechti by Muslim Magomaev.

  • @jethrosesc Is it Russian?

    When was it composed?

  • This song is sang by Muslim Magomaev, I suppose, it just looks like to him. Is the title important either?

  • @Turcifavalli Муслим Магомаев - "Стадион моей мечты". Muslim Magomaev - "The Stadium of my dream"

Музыка music by: А.Пахмутова, Стихи lirics by: Н.Добронравов.

  • @Turcifavalli Try this.

    youtube.com/watch?v=KiwF_z8Wu_I

    Tchaikovsky Symphony #6 "Pathetique" : movement #3

  • What song is it at 0:56?

  • Stadion moyey myechti (Stadium of my dream) by Muslim Magmayev

  • btw, Afghanistan is there at 3:01

  • a melhor abertura da historia das olimpiadas de todos os tempos.

  • Wow! A tribute to Tchaikovsky! This is his 6th Symphony (Pathetique) third movement. With the heroic Greek entrance, it makes a great Olmypic spectacle. The West boycotted the games because of Soviet fighting against the Afghanistan muslims. At yet the West is there now fighting also.
