I cant believe they didn't put her entire healing and then falling in love with faramir in the theartrical version... I think eowyn was one of the few characters that wasn't portrayed as good as she was in the book..
Does Aragorn's ring have any power? Because he somehow manages to cure Eowyn with a soggy cloth, which makes absolutely no sense. The camera does a close up on his ring when he's wringing the cloth out, though, as though it's drawing attention to its power...so does it have some kind of healing power or what?
Liv Tyler sings so beautiful in this song, I wish this extra scene was kept in the movie, especially when the actor who portrays Eomer does such an awesome job acting in it!
I remember seeing this scene in the first RotK trailer in Septmber 2003 and being *so* disappointed when it wasn't in the theatrical release. It was one of my favourite parts of the book too, when he charges off screaming "Death take us all!" There's so much emotion in this video - the bewilderment on his face is heartbreaking.
Could someone tell me whats happened here? I havent watched or have the extended edition and I'm trying to watch these clips and put pieces together but at what point does Eowyn nearly die? I'm sure in the film she just kills that guy with the helmet (I'm sorry I'm terrible with names, can't call myself a true fan can I?) and thats that for her on the battle field, so does an Orc stab her or something? And at what point has she and Faramir met? :P
@celtickid1683 Eowyn is wounded when she is hit by the Witch King's Mace and aslo when she stabs him. Pippin is also afflicted but they don't show that as well. Eowyn meets Faramir in the house of healing after she is healed because she is not fit for battle until she recovers.
@celtickid1683 I have read the books and can tell you exactly what happens. Eowyn's arm is broken by the witch king's mace but her 'soul' is wounded when she stabs him (Pippin's, too.). Only the true king of Gondor has the power to save either of them. Aragorn heals her but she is still deeply depressed because he does not love her. She meets Farimir and he heals her of that 'affliction'.
Why was this taken out! Great acting by Karl Urban and we actually get some back story on Eowyn and Faramir! The other scene with those 2 should have been saved too...
With a sigh, you turn away. With a deepening heart, no words to say. You will find, that the world has changed forever... And the trees are now turning from green to gold. And the sun is now fading. I wish I could hold you closer... (gives me shivers!)
The song makes me shiver... "With a sigh You turn away With a deepening heart No words to say You will find That the world has changed Forever And the trees are now Turning from green to gold And the sun is now fading I wish I could hold you closer "
Shouldn't of cut this out. It didn't last very long, and it explained what happened to Eowyn and Faramir after it was all over. =[ I still love the movie, though. I can't help but love it. X]
So why did hollywood change this story? Personally I think Faramir is wonderful, and wanted to see more about him and Eowyn . Do you think it was because the actor playing Faramir wasn't well known? I wish for once a movie from hollywood would follow true to the books its based on. Is that asking too much?
a cry of pure agony ..They never should have cut this scene or the Eowyn/ Faramir ones either, for that matter..they are the parts that I like from the book and they didn't get put in the theatrical release..:(
@kattekind1 because he knew Aragorn could save Eowyn. The King of Gondor had healing hands and could cure the Black Breath; it was part of the prophecy surrounding the return of Isildur's heir.
Finding out that your own sister was not only in the battle but dies would most definitely be heart-wrenching. OMG that was such a sad moment and honestly should never have been taken out of the theatrical release. Of course Eowyn was not dead, but what a performance from Karl Urban for that. He should definitely be recognized more as an actor.
Within the first 10 seconds I knew they shouldn't have cut this scene. Eomer's scream at finding his sister "dead" on the battlefield took the air from my lungs. My heart ached! The look of pure grief on his face. Karl Urban did an amazing job!
@buffy21033 all the subtitles say is screaming lol. Just like when you smile and laugh, deaf turkish people might not know that there is laughter accompanying the smile
@glykera Well you should notice I was replying to someone else and that semantics of words does not matter. Screaming/yelling can be interchangeable at times. I never said it said screaming. I mean obviously the word "screaming" isn't typed out.
No people don't really yell no. Unless it's devastatingly surprising I guess.
@craigbenj He almost died when he went to take back the stronghold by the river for his dad then when he came back his dad thought he died (he was just badly hurt). Instead of getting him medicine his dad tried to burn him and his son to death. But then Gandalf and Pippin saved Faramir (his dad died). So now Faramir went to the healing place so he wouldn't die.
Eomer's scream of anguish is heartbreaking. It is indeed bone chilling to see this. And how Aragon cures here is also beautifull to see. He cures her using his powers he inherited from the old kings of Numenor. Tolkien by the way used Numenor as a way to explain the legend of Atlantis.
@JanaSklibova yeah, and Faramir becomes prince of Ithilien (Minas Morgul). In the extended edition they show a small scene where they hint at a romance with Eowyn and Faramir
@JanaSklibova No. She realizes that she can't have Aragorn. Faramir was a whole 'nother thing that got developed through time and comeraderie and stuff. It's actually one of my favorite pairings in the novels- I like it much better than Aragorn/Arwen.
It's a beautiful song, Arwen's Song, Peter Jackson originally was going to use her recording in The Two Towers, but did'nt think it fit the scene, then decided to use it in Return of The King. Eomer is amazing in this scene. The hope in his eyes when he sees Aragorn.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole trilogy. It just has such an epicness about it: the amazing music and Eowyn walking to the window of the castle in women's traditional medieval clothing. Gosh, I love The Lord of the Rings and high fantasy!
@coldboxster23 I don't think so. He rode into battle with Theoden & was prepared for the possibility of his being killed. Theoden was his uncle & had lived a full life before dying in honor on the battlefield.
Eowyn was his only sister (& no doubt his younger sister), and he had no idea she had ridden out with them until he found her presumed dead body beside the king. In his uncle's case, he was grieved, but in his sister's case, there was absolute shock, horror, & fury on top of the grief.
@olga19971 No, but near the brink of death. It was something to do with the aftereffect of stabbing the Witch King, combined with the death wish she had, knowing that what she felt for Aragorn was not reciprocated.
@olga19971 They explain things in more detail in the book. Her fight with the Witch King left her wounded, similarly to Frodo's Morgul Blade stab. Knowing that Liv Tyler sang this song makes me love it and her so much more. It's heartbreaking when you think Eowyn may die, but Aragorn heals her, and Arwen's song is so lovely.
@geikogecko “'Would that there were kings in Gondor, as there were once upon a time, they say! For it is said in old lore: hands of the king are the hands of the healer. And so the rightful king could ever be known.”
And Gandalf, who stood by, said: “Men may long remember your words, Ioreth! For there is hope in them. Maybe a king has indeed returned to Gondor; or have you not heard the strange tidings that have come to the City?'”
i think they should not have erased some scenes from the movie. After all if their problem was time, no one would have complained about possible movie 4 or part 2 of 3rd movie. I wish there was more about characters like Arwen and Aragorn, Eowyn and Faramir, Jomer, Legolas, Giml and elves. They were hardly showing any elves apart from Arwen, maybe two scenes in every movie seriously... The story had so much more potential ::)) Thumbs up who agrees :D
@MLGiZRiPPiN me too and to be honest i was dissapointed at arwen on the end. Well at least Faramir and Eowyn had better ending then in the movie. It's fun how they all apart from Aragorn, Pipin and Merry went to the grey heavens on the end ::))
@MarianaPhoenix Pippin and Merry get high positions in the Shire after the last elven ship leaves for the west. But they leave the shire for ever eventually to spend the last years of their lives in Rohan and Gondor . When they die they are buried with great honour.
I cant believe they didn't put her entire healing and then falling in love with faramir in the theartrical version... I think eowyn was one of the few characters that wasn't portrayed as good as she was in the book..

@blah6755
I don't think he is happy or anything... I think he just admires Eowyn's courage :)

It's part of the way Aragorn proves he's King.

i think they should not have erased some scenes from the movie.

@MarianaPhoenix lol just read the book
MLGiZRiPPiN 10 months ago
@MLGiZRiPPiN me too and to be honest i was dissapointed at arwen on the end. Well at least Faramir and Eowyn had better ending then in the movie. It's fun how they all apart from Aragorn, Pipin and Merry went to the grey heavens on the end ::))
MarianaPhoenix 10 months ago
@MarianaPhoenix Pippin and Merry get high positions in the Shire after the last elven ship leaves for the west. But they leave the shire for ever eventually to spend the last years of their lives in Rohan and Gondor . When they die they are buried with great honour.
