The Aliens look too small and take forever to get to the player. They are supposed to be lighting fast and pounce on sight not dance around saying " shoot me shoot me!". also the sounds are off.. where's that trademark pulse rifle sound? where's the Alien squeals and feral snarls? quite dissapointed with what i'm seeing so far. at least the AVP game had the right ambient sound and atmosphere. this feels like a generic shooter with little weird monsters.

WRONG. Scripted effects stops the gameplay (typically) and introduces cinematic effects. Good AI makes the difference between the enemies climbing on ceilings or crawling on walls. IT IS DYNAMIC and CHANGES EVERY SINGLE GAME SESSION. Scripting is STATIC - does not change.

Scripted events are a tool, and just one of many that developers have access to. Sometimes a developer will need a certain action to take place for whatever reason, and often it's incredibly hard to create AI that will fulfil that purpose. It's how you use the scripted events that matter. Look at the Half-Life series - it's heavily scripted, but incredibly engaging for the player.

@DarkNekoNinja Too true. I remember some of the most fun I had in any FPS game was trying to keep as many marines as possible alive in Half Life :Opposing Force. Don't make me part of an elite SQUAD and then fucking KILL everyone. That said, it's important to note that Colonial Marine is four player coop, so you'll probably have AI squads with you for most of the game when not playing with other people.

Scripted events are used by developers WHO SUCK at LEVEL DESIGN. Their levels are linear and not worth replaying. Compare DUKE NUKEM 3D to DUKE NUKEM FOREVER.

The first AVP on the PC basically INVENTED "Horde" mode. They had a survival mode where you had to simply survive multiple waves of aliens as either the Predator or the Marine. totally unscripted. Just damn good AI that doesn't stop till you die. These new games offer no fucking replay value.

Seriously? You've not played a fully unscripted game before, i can almost fucking guarantee that. The only unscripted types of games there are, are things like Mutliplayer where its the players doing the actions, for Single player games thats an extremely exhausting thing to do, shit like Fear, Amnesia and all that stuff are still heavily scripted for maximum player engagement, you cannot have a fully unscripted environment for a Single player game.

AvP's Marine Campaign was pretty good on Xbox360. In fact, all the singleplayer campaigns were good. I think the only mistake made was focusing on hand to hand combat/melee moves and fucking up the Predator's power system. Shoulda kept the predator like he was in the old PC game.
