Great rendition - tongue in cheek delivery - pity some comments can't be as laid back -- if Elvis had written his own music and sounded like MJ then me and millions of others would have forgotten him years ago As an Elvis fan I can honestly say it doesn't makes a dime of difference that he didn't write his songs - I listen to a voice that can sing anything not a pen scratching paper
Willie Dixon wrote this for Little Walter, but the music industry is about MONEY. And it was a different time.... Elvis meant capturing the white audience, whereas Little Walter did not. As sad as that is - it is a fact. Things have changed a lot since then, however we've still got a long way to go. One thing that has NOT changed, is that music is about money to record producers, not passion. Keep that in mind, ya'll.. that's all.
Arthur Crudup (A Black American Blues Singer) was truly responsible for the "Elvis outbreak" when Elvis first sang his song "That's All Right", and Sam Phillips is the man who discovered Elvis - Sam being best known for his discoveries of true Rockabilly artists, such as Elvis & Jerry Lee Lewis, and adding them into the mix of black musicians he had under his label, like B.B. King & Howlin' Wolf, it truly was only fitting, that a singer w/Elvis's talent sang songs by Black writers...
ooh damn..yall got paragraphs and paragraphs. they shouldve never included that in C.R ..some of yall probably wouldve never even known. LOL ive heard this song sung by Elvis on a whole lot of movies. "MY,MY,MY BABAYY!"
Yeah, Etta James and Beyonce are mad at each other. Glen Miller's (white guy) At Last sung by two white people with his band has been claimed by Etta James as "her signature song"" and Beyonce sang it at Pres. Obama''s inaugural ball and again in Cadillac Records and this has made Etta really upset and she wants ""her song"" back - and they got the nerve to blame Elvis for stealing music
Have you head of Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and quite a few others that sang songs written by whites - awww, don't tell me they're stealing? You make me laugh. Why aren't you responding to the comment about Elvis paying for Jackie Wilson? Cause you got nothin' to say to the truth. Cut the crap about Elvis stealing your music - you should be honoured he sang it.
@Loulou26an Then only listen to that one - who cares. I'll listen to Elvis' version. You'd think you guys invented music - get a grip. Elvis sang Jerry Reed songs, Eddie Rabit songs - you guys just weren't that special that he sang only your songs. Be thankful the white boy did because then you got noticed.
All you complainers and whiners, did you know Elvis paid for all Jackie Wilson''s medical bills and his funeral after he was hospitalized and in a coma for quite some time? Jackie Wilson was one of Elvis'' favourite singers and black. Read some books and give up the whining.
So because Beyonce sang an Etta James song, I guess she stole it from Etta?? Or because B, B. King sang a Robert Johnson song - he stole it from Robert?? Grow Up People - everyone sings every one elses' songs so stop with the race card - it's ridiculous and old. Elvis lived in Shake Rag, Miss. - an all black community and got along just fine. It makes me wonder who has the race problem - yes. you suffered for your rights - but you got them so give it up - it's tired.
Elvis point blank stole the song... Same thing happened in the movie dream girls! So all of you people who are saying that Elvis was just doing a cover you guys are wrong. Learn your history!
@sadiebunny Yeah, how many of black artists have sang other black artists songs - quite a few if you look at history - guess that's stealing too, right? How many black artists have sung songs that white people have orginally sang. Methinks you have the race problem cause a white guy sang a song and made a hit with it. - didn't hear them complain.
Record companies back then were just coveting their bottom line. And let's face race relations were at their worst. It is what it is.They marketed the music the way certain people wanted to hear it. Now in reality Elvis,The Stones,Eric Clapton,The Beatles, etc had nothing but admiration for Muddy, Walter, Little Richard etc. If you want to blame somebody blame the business and the way society was back then. Don't hate the player hate the game. Some of you must have just finished Cadillac Records
@black3ooo IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN!!! It USUALLY has to do with what comes with that! I have black friends that are hard mother fuckers but they also recognize there's a problem!!! U hafta understand something, in the case of Elvis, he wasn't some Pat Boone cheesy white fuck! He was just as poor, just as destitute & just as blue as all his black peers! That man was just as black as a black man! All those black artists took those songs from others too! Mostly standards.
Why isn’t Ike Turner, who recorded what is considered the first rock n’ roll side in 1951 , hailed as the King (and/or Father, and/or God) of rock? Because this world is ruled by and has always been ruled by the white society! Take notice on how a lot of white artist "Covered" songs from black artist. Then look at who became more famous. You will see that the white artist is remembered a lot more than the black one. Everything in this world has to do with race learn your facts!

@black3ooo As much as I love Led Zeppelin & the Rolling Stones, they ACTUALLY DID STEAL from Willy Dixon!!! Zeppelin's first album was completely almost all songs ripped off or very similar to Willy Dixon songs! Those bands did admit to it & were sued & eventually payed Willy a lot of money for them songs which was completely just!!! Willy wrote some of the best & most inspirational songs of ALL TIME!!!
@black3ooo You wish - the main writers for Elvis's songs were Leiber and Stoller - white guys. You only had one guy who tried to be white and was born black - Michael Jackson. I think he sang some songs that white people wrote too- are you saying he was a theif?
@jazzyjane58 Absolutely spot on ! Presley didnt even make a proper studio recording of this song ! , All he did was to sing it at a live concert !!---- Yet if you ask all these Elvis critics if they have commented and labled all the other artists who have recorded this song as thieves ,then their silence is DEAFENING !!!
Elvis Presley said there is only One King and God. That King and Almighty God is Jesus Christ the Son. He even asked his personal friends why he being an ordinary human being like everybody else was put on this pedestal being idolized? He seriously personally was bothered by that in private. Elvis Presley really wanted to be closer experience personal relationship with God than the public and to be reunited with his Mother again after she passed away. He wanted to be looked at as a human being.
In a show in 1974 a group of people in the audience held a sign up that said the King. Elvis Presley pointed at the group holding the sign and said " Thank you for your kindness, but I'm just a singer of rock n roll and other songs to entertain, and I'm just a human being like you people. There is only One King and that is Christ!!!!!!
Once in mankind's history a man was born that had ALL the elements of an eternal cultural ICON. A voice, a physical presence and charisma unmatched. They may not have known it then, but we can certainly see it now--Michael Jackson comment about Elvis Presley in 1984.
I see everybody on here has had a crash course in "Cadillac Records" and are now Master Teachers on Blues History...I'll give you all an "E" for Effort. I'm a Pro-Black Power Anti Govt, Anti Uncle Tom, Malcolm-Farrakhan loving type of Man and I ain't complaining that Elvis covered this song so whats all the hoopla...Its a Dope Cover, Willie Dixon got Paid, he's happy..so Sssshhhhhhhhhh its Ok people its OK.
motherf*cking copycat this song belong to little walter look at little walter on youtube caddilac records(movie) damn racist copycats cant make their own songs
@touwe Funny how Presley can simply sing a song during a live concert, and hes labeled a copycat and a stealer ! Yet your name is nowhere to be seen on the MANY artists channels who have actually done RECORDED covers of this song !!!! Nah , youre just a plain old jealous Elvis hater ! Dont like him !! ---------------- Move on ! .
@touwe You and your ignorant stupid 25 year old punks singers and groups today 50 years ago would have their faces smashed right off and thrown into prison if they even played one chord and sang one word note of their lyrics in public. You ungrateful ignorant punks don't realize that young white man open the door to allow you and me to listen to our music today in this country and world.
@touwe OMG!!!!!! You need to grow up. It is obvious you don't know a thing about Elvis and he for one was certainly not racist as you seem to be. Elvis sang covers and made it his own. Some of the original artists to such covers have also commented that Elvis sang "Their" song how it should be sang. I have no doubt Litte Walter would have been honoured that the King of Rock should record "His" song. Cadilac Records is a good movie.......so don't spoil it by your sicko remarks. Elvis forever!!!!!
What an amazing performance - LIVE !!! Elvis paying his respects to the beloved rythm and blues he grew up on in Tupelo and Memphis. You can feel the power and energy pouring into this song.
Some people have ignorantly stated that this song was stolen??? How do you steal a song? Elvis never released this as a single nor recorded it in a studio! It was simply performed live because Elvis loved this song and the original performamce..
The truth is Elvis didn't write hardly any of his songs if any at all. Most of them were covers or were written by others. There was a huge amount of great music that was unsuccessful because it was made by black artists in pre-civil rights america. Elvis capitalized and you can't really hate on him for it. New Kids On the block following New Edition, Vanilla Ice following black rappers and Michael Jackson following Michael Jackson followed suit...and made millions!
@killayu28 First of all that was a rumor that was proven false by a black reporter in 1957 who said Elvis is anything but a racist. Second, Myrna Smith, one of the Sweet Inspirations, said in an interview that one time when they went to Houston to do a concert, Elvis was told he can just leave those black girls home. And Elvis said if they don't go then he's not going either. He even said before that Fats Domino is the real king of rock. There is no proof he's racist only proof he isn't racist.
@killayu28 Actually that statement never was said by Elvis, if you don;t like him quit trying to pin racism on him - he paid for Jackie Wilson'g medical bills and his funeral - but you will turn that into something racist. I think you got the problem buddy. Why do blacks say ""white trash"" - very racist.
Just about every song that Elvis sang was recorded by someone else first. With very few exceptions Elvis's version was better. Elvis loved the songs sung by black artist, as we all did back in the fifties. Have any of you heard hound dog by the original artist. She was good but Elvis was better. Fats Domino was happy to have his songs sung by Pat Boone or Elvis but Chuck Berry didn't like it one bit.
in my opinion elvis is a thief for not giving the credit to the musicians who made him who he was. he took a style that was almost unheard of at the time and made it his own. this song first came out when elvis was in diaper's he also stole his dance move's from Bo diddley. your not a real king unless you pay homage
@starks758 Is? Last time I checked Elvis was still dead. You'd have to look at one of the original 45 pressings to see if he gave Willie Dixon his due. BTW I never cared much for Elvis after he left for the army.
@philharmonica50 this sound like a live recording homage to me would of been him giving a brief background of the song before he started singing it to help boost album sales of the originators.
I luv this cover by Elvis :) The talent in a cover song comes from being able to make it your own and not duplicating the original version, and Elvis MADE THIS SONG HIS OWN!!!
@dinomiteblu He coverd a lot of songs. He didnt cover ANYONES style though so he doesnt need to give a specail recognition to anyone as long as its in the album cover somewhere.
@TICKSLADY wtf are you talking about he grew up in Tupelo/Memphis... full of Blacks, he had lots of Afro-american friends. Little Walter should be proud The King covered one of his songs nothing to be mad about.
@TICKSLADY The producers of "Cadillac Records" should be very proud of themselves. Thanks to their film, everyone and their mother now knows that this was originally Little Walter's song. Yet it was not written BY Little Walter but rather written FOR him by Willie Dixon. I suppose it's okay for black artists to share music amongst themselves yet if a white guy covers the song then it's considered "stealing"? Sounds pretty ass backwards to me.
@JustinSosa Actually, Cadillac Records turned me on to Elvis' equally great take on this number. Dixon, I believe, adopted the tune from the old country gospel number This Train.
To all the people who don't like ELVIS I can help you know how?? It is go to be so Easy just list to what I say OK here it is if you don't like ELVIS don't come on to any of his Video OK see how Easy this is?? Good Luck!!
black ppl were da musicians so once again white ppl steal it and take credit jus lik wit the beach boys and chuck berry not hatin they played the game lies and more lies
OMG here we go agin R.I.P to little walter! the original singer of this song! who had alot of his music stole thanks to a shady record company and non creative singers
This is not even a studio recording ! Its a live recording from a live concert . Many artists have covered this song , and i would bet a pound to a penny that these Elvis knockers will not be on their channels , hating on them ! So --- Why just Elvis Presley do they heap their hostility on . Do i REALLY ! need to say why ! NO , i dont think its nessessary !!!!
Such a shame people are still posting the same old bullshit. What's Elvis doing that EVERY OTHER FUCKING ARTIST in music hasn't done? He's COVERING a song. Why don't people give Eric Clapton shit for covering "I Shot The Sheriff" that Bob Marley originally recorded? Or "Cocaine" which JJ Cale originally recorded...both made Eric huge. Why not get on Whitney Houston for stealing Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You?" Little Walter and Elvis' versions are both amazing. Why is that so hard?
According to Tom Parker, Elvis never recorded a song unless he owned it. Dolly wanted him to record 'Ill always love you" Parker wouldn't let him because she would not sell him the rights. So steal he did not
All you people who say he 'stole' the song, Need to shut up and get over it. He can sing the song if he wants to. And he sings it way better than anybody else.
HOW bout Elvis LOVERS you wouldn't have this damn version in the first place if Little Walter hadn't done it! F--- You!!!
XtinaMimiLover14 2 days ago

Elvis Stole Afta Lil Walters Recorded It Willie Dixon Wrote it for Lil Walters to Perform Not Elvis So he Stole it
PMPpricelesspranksta 8 months ago

Yeah, Etta James and Beyonce are mad at each other. Glen Miller's (white guy) At Last sung by two white people with his band has been claimed by Etta James as "her signature song"" and Beyonce sang it at Pres. Obama''s inaugural ball and again in Cadillac Records and this has made Etta really upset and she wants ""her song"" back - and they got the nerve to blame Elvis for stealing music
jazzyjane58 8 months ago
Have you head of Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and quite a few others that sang songs written by whites - awww, don't tell me they're stealing? You make me laugh. Why aren't you responding to the comment about Elvis paying for Jackie Wilson? Cause you got nothin' to say to the truth. Cut the crap about Elvis stealing your music - you should be honoured he sang it.
jazzyjane58 8 months ago
@Loulou26an Then only listen to that one - who cares. I'll listen to Elvis' version. You'd think you guys invented music - get a grip. Elvis sang Jerry Reed songs, Eddie Rabit songs - you guys just weren't that special that he sang only your songs. Be thankful the white boy did because then you got noticed.
jazzyjane58 8 months ago
All you complainers and whiners, did you know Elvis paid for all Jackie Wilson''s medical bills and his funeral after he was hospitalized and in a coma for quite some time? Jackie Wilson was one of Elvis'' favourite singers and black. Read some books and give up the whining.
jazzyjane58 9 months ago
So because Beyonce sang an Etta James song, I guess she stole it from Etta?? Or because B, B. King sang a Robert Johnson song - he stole it from Robert?? Grow Up People - everyone sings every one elses' songs so stop with the race card - it's ridiculous and old. Elvis lived in Shake Rag, Miss. - an all black community and got along just fine. It makes me wonder who has the race problem - yes. you suffered for your rights - but you got them so give it up - it's tired.
jazzyjane58 9 months ago
Elvis point blank stole the song... Same thing happened in the movie dream girls! So all of you people who are saying that Elvis was just doing a cover you guys are wrong. Learn your history!
sadiebunny 9 months ago

HonRevPTB 9 months ago
@black3ooo You wish - the main writers for Elvis's songs were Leiber and Stoller - white guys. You only had one guy who tried to be white and was born black - Michael Jackson. I think he sang some songs that white people wrote too- are you saying he was a theif?
jazzyjane58 9 months ago

BBQFanNo1 10 months ago 2

BBQFanNo1 10 months ago
@touwe OMG!!!!!! You need to grow up. It is obvious you don't know a thing about Elvis and he for one was certainly not racist as you seem to be. Elvis sang covers and made it his own. Some of the original artists to such covers have also commented that Elvis sang "Their" song how it should be sang. I have no doubt Litte Walter would have been honoured that the King of Rock should record "His" song. Cadilac Records is a good movie.......so don't spoil it by your sicko remarks. Elvis forever!!!!!
MegaNaiomi 10 months ago

New Kids On the block following New Edition, Vanilla Ice following black rappers and Michael Jackson following Michael Jackson followed suit...and made millions!

killayu28 1 year ago
@killayu28 First of all that was a rumor that was proven false by a black reporter in 1957 who said Elvis is anything but a racist. Second, Myrna Smith, one of the Sweet Inspirations, said in an interview that one time when they went to Houston to do a concert, Elvis was told he can just leave those black girls home. And Elvis said if they don't go then he's not going either. He even said before that Fats Domino is the real king of rock. There is no proof he's racist only proof he isn't racist.

Just about every song that Elvis sang was recorded by someone else first. With very few exceptions Elvis's version was better. Elvis loved the songs sung by black artist, as we all did back in the fifties. Have any of you heard hound dog by the original artist. She was good but Elvis was better. Fats Domino was happy to have his songs sung by Pat Boone or Elvis but Chuck Berry didn't like it one bit.
elpogotp 1 year ago
in my opinion elvis is a thief for not giving the credit to the musicians who made him who he was. he took a style that was almost unheard of at the time and made it his own. this song first came out when elvis was in diaper's he also stole his dance move's from Bo diddley. your not a real king unless you pay homage
starks758 1 year ago
@starks758 Is? Last time I checked Elvis was still dead. You'd have to look at one of the original 45 pressings to see if he gave Willie Dixon his due. BTW I never cared much for Elvis after he left for the army.
philharmonica50 1 year ago
@philharmonica50 this sound like a live recording homage to me would of been him giving a brief background of the song before he started singing it to help boost album sales of the originators.
