not all brass instruments are the same? Really? What? This is a suprise, Did anyone know that? ALso the mouthpiece is NOT the most important. I would say its all even. WIth a mouthpiece you cant play the trumpet. With out a trumpet, You can play the mouthpiece but it doesn't sound like a trumpet. You are highly incorrect.
@stevenhamlin1000 You must be pretty ignorant. Yeah you can play in the lead pipe but you will have a super shitty tone. And no... a trumpet is conical..
hey everyone, ive been playing trumpet for about 4 years now and im trying out for the south carolina youth philharmonic in a couple weeks and i was just wondering what are some good scales i should know before i try out?
i have found that every single expert village video just has someone ramble on about nothing and never actually teach you anything. idk what is up with these vids but i would like to actually learn something useful instead of where the mouthpiece goes and where your mouth goes!!
@EuphoriaAvenue Yeah, I hear ya...I don't really like the commercials before videos either, but that's far better to me than for YouTube to start charging ME (and you) for membership.
(is a trumpet not a wind instrument?)... he didn't say WOODwind. The wind family is Brass and Woodwind (including pipe instruments like flutes and piccolos) combined.
yeah man, keep doing what ur doing. every one that is a decent player knows all of their scales ( and minor scales) dude saying that u only need to know tha Bb scale is nonsense. and if you, that poster are reading this comment. u need to know that every piece of music/ key change of that piece of music is written off of a certain scale. if u know the scale key changes wont bother u because u allready know what the notes of the SCALE are according to that key signature. good luck on sightreading
Dude, you're so gay and boring! Honestly, the only way to play is, well, PLAY! Just know your Bb scale, how to clean it and oil the valves, and just keep challenging yourself but keep playing and nonplaying time equal so you can build the muscles that are torn down from playing. :) It's really easy. Just get the basics then go back and fine tune small areas.
Yes! Playing an instrument cannot be learned from a youtube video! I'm 1st/2nd chair (2 years baby!) and that is through challenging myself. I learned the basics first (Bb) and then I went back and taught myself the other major and minor scales. I'm a very mathematical person, so it was easy to learn the music. My trumpet section is very talented so conpetition was on, so I learned fast!
hmm ya i well some people rather learn with the video for beginners what grade did you start your instrument cause i got help from my band teacher and i play trombone pretty well but she plays clarinet so i just teach her embrochure or just keep reminding her
You really should point out the the "shape" is not conical... only the bell is conical, the horn itself is cylindrical. If you are going to introduce such words to a beginner audience, go ahead and explain the difference.

@6745u did i say that your tone would be good? no. a trumpet is cylindrical the cornet & flugelhorn are conical
the only cone on the trumpet is the bell the cornet is 3/4 conical after the valves & flugel horn is completely conical after the valves

The "spitting" action he says is completely wrong. That would cause any beginner to get the wrong impression on tonguing. Terrible!
