@daffodils077 No,Carol King played the piano, she also wrote it.Leon was involved according to the recent documentary on HBO.Elton John gives him credit, but Carol plus that amazing intro!!!She plays the intro on One Fine Day.
amazing enough little Eva quit singing the hit songs , returned to North Carolina to her original home town and finished out her singing career in church . She passed away several years ago .... She was very very talented
@beamerZ We toured with Little Eva and my band did the back-up music and she always sang live. She sounded as good live as she did in the studio. R.I.P. Sweet one
Both this and Kylie's vesion is/are greagt. They were produced for their time. Little Eva topped the Billboard chart in 1962, Kylie reached number 3 on Billboard in 1988.

She is absolutely awesome. Her treatment in later life was appalling. There was no respect for black singers in those days from those low life white record executives. They got very rich at the expense of those with the talent. Rot in hell.
It's my understanding that this poor woman only received 50 dollars for her work on this song. If this is true I hope that all the people involve make it to level 12 in HELL when it's their time to go.
@blueticecho Although the prevailing rumor in the 1970s was that she had received only $50 for "The Loco-Motion," it seems $50 was actually her weekly salary at the time she made her records (an increase of $15 from what Goffin and King had been paying her as nanny). Penniless, she moved her three young children to South Carolina, where they lived in obscurity on menial jobs and welfare.[4]--Wikipedia She died in April 2003.
Almost all the "dance" songs; frug, twist, wahtsi, the swim, the stomp etc. etc. came from the early sixties. There were so many of them. Some had a specific song attached to them, but not all.
after kylie monogues version hit ,renewed interest was brought to little eva who was able to do the oldies circuit and cabaret before she died. so this has a happy end i'm glad to report.
some people find me weired bc i'm only 13 and i listen to music like this but i love it i mean how can u not like these classic's?? there just brilliant i listen to so much of this music and then i listen to the crap we have today and i prefer this so much it's just amazing!
@murrsaat , the story i heard , from Carol King, white person, was she wrote this and gave it to her baby sitter , Little Eva , to sing. sorry , just the facts
Yes, Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote it, and paid Little Eva $50/week to tour it. She died poor and in obscurity. It's a really sad story actually.
@melani411 This song's been covered a lot; you maybe be thinking of that version. (The song was written by Carole King; Little Eva was the first person to record it). Interestingly enough, this song made it into the American Top 5 3 times; in 1962 (by Little Eva), 1974 (by Grand Funk Railroad) and 1988 (by Kylie Minogue).
@drummer78 This is a truly beautiful song from an underated singer Like Eva here. Everyone thinks that Kylie Minogue first sang this, There just isn't another performance out there :-(
I like this live version of the song better than her original recorded song-- this one sounds more upbeat and it's a tad faster paced-- I just wish they performed the whole song! Either way, it's an awesome tune =D
Wow, only 20 thumbs up for this tune is an embarassment to all of Us old people that loved pop music. Little Eva was a real sweet Girl with a cute voice. Me and My first wife used to do all the Dances of that entire era. 1960 to 1970 were the best days of My life.
Compared to the all the music shows that we see on TV this performance looks very unprofessional. But therein lies the charm of this special presentation.

@bikefool Carol King did the original recording. This is what the great radio personality Dan Ingram of the great 77 WABC said.
Little Eva did the demo, but for whatever reason, they didn't get the "right sound" for the recording take.
Carol King was involved in the production, and then ended up cutting the original version of this song.
After listening to this many times. I am still wondering if what Dan Ingram said was true.
Other sources just say that Carol King sang backup.
