I was thinking the same thing as Zena855. If you're with someone in the bed, will too much movement cause the structure to shake, making items fall? It would be one of the first things I'd consider before buying, afterall.

@DougRattmann i think the "all in one" component is appealing and practical to some...so as to not need another thing in an already small space (such as a bookcase), so put the 2 together and you have some form of solution.

My concern is how heavy can the shelves carry. If you stress those hinges there is a big chance it might ripp the wood. We know how heavy a bunh of book is.

the mechanism to raise these beds are pretty cool. they have several different kinds, but, I don't think any of them involve "cables". They are controlled by a spring, much like a garage door spring, but heavier. they mount typically on the side of the bed and act, of course, Like a hinge. fully adjustable, you could make the bed raise up by itself. But, after installation, they should raise up or down with just one finger. I don't think that the bed will even feel any heavier as it goes down.

that's probably about a five grand bed. they are pretty expensive. made of particle board, put together with metal connectors. Now, some of them are made of solid wood, and I might be wrong about the cost of this bed, they weren't available when I was installing them. I used to work for the more space place. I tried installing them for a living, but the job was too involved. The people had too much overhead, and couldn't pay me a fair price for instalations. So, I gave it up.

How good do the doors work when the shelves are full of books?

The books actually stay in place on the shelves when you swing the bookcases open. The Pivot hinge we use in extremely well designed and can handle several hundred pounds of weight. The hinges are concealed inside our cabinetry.

Our beds are designed for every nite use and are as comfortabel as a bed that always stays on the floor. There is an uphostered foundation under the Serta mattress. Bed does not come in contact with any metal bars or springs.
