How do they choose who gets a place in the JET program? Is it based on a resume or certain courses that you take in University? Would you say it's difficult to qualify?
speaking of luggage, pay close attention to the baggage allowances if you have a choice of airline.. I didn't, switched airlines at the last minute and found I had to leave a pile of stuff behind :/
dude, welcome to my neck of the woods. depending on where you are in shiga, you could be in a small city or the middle of nowhere. let us know when you find out where.
I'll for sure let you know! I will be teaching high school and from what I hear, I have a better chance at being closer to the city than junior high or elementary teachers. Not really sure why though.....
Better start thinking about your application if you are interested in the JET Program. It's by far one of the best for teaching in Japan. BUT there are many others too.
Awesome, I was wondering if the lake was going to be cold or not. Were there many Japanese in the water? Seems like they aren't as into the whole "party on the lake" like we are in the States.
Congrats! I've never been to Biwa-ko, but my nature nut friend said it was absolutely gorgeous.
I'm still waiting on my placement. I think I was upgraded a couple of weeks after you, so I can probably bank on waiting about that long before I get the good word.
I've never been either, but I'm really looking forward to moving there!
Do let me know when you get your placement. I think it will come sooner than you think. I was upgraded 2 weeks after others were short-listed, but I got my placement only 1 week after.
Funny you should mention that because I filmed this on the way to get my int'l DL! :)
I'm not really a big fan of driving in general, but it will all depend on what city I'm in and how many schools. I think I hear a scooter calling my name. We'll see though.
nice, Metallica in the background lol

Shiga is a great place, i was there for 2 months in 2004. There's not many foreigners so you'll get alot of attention.
Lake Biwa is like a warm bath youll like it.

are you going to give up driving while in Japan?
I know it was weird for me not to drive for one whole year. Make sure you get your intl DL before you leave just in case.
