It's a damn good thing the new 9-5 Aero is WAY better than this. For starters it has AWD, so none of that massive smoke wall to get in your way and even though it's much bigger it still rolls less than this.
9-5 aeros are plenty fast and they respond to mods well. the thing is is T7 Management that is super complex. most tuners have no clue about it. but its great because the ecu's dont have to be socketed and chipped to load tunes. you plug in a laptop and use free software (t7suite) and tune away.
you can be at 300hp and 330tq with a free flow downpipe exhaust intake fuel pressure regulator and a tune. and alot more if you add an aftermarket intercooler.
@selebrin03 any recent GM Saab isn't reliable. I've seen problems in regards to windows not working, the seat not working, sunroof, airbags going off without hitting anything, shocks, transmission, you name it! My neighbor would PRAY and hope his car would start in the morning! To make matters worse, the GM dealerships are notorious for poor customer service. No wonder why they were in financial troubles.
Beside my 95' 900 T,i own a 9-3 Diesel from 2005,i've made about 90.000 miles with it and i never had any troubles, the engine is just amazing, and i never had any electronics or reliability troubles, these car are extremely well built,i wouldn't switch it for any german car (of this size).
@toemasie That's great to hear! I've worked at a garage for almost 15 years. Saabs are always in here ( along with VW's and Audis! ).
It's great to hear your Saab has the mileage it does! Normally around 90,000 ( of recent saabs ), everything starts going wrong! Can't wait to see what Spyker does with Saab!
@kennedy220 How bout it? I LOVE VW, especially the GTI. Not a reliable car at all. I put 200-300 thousand miles on my Toyotas. My VW only lasted around 80,000 until I had to start pumping serious money into it.
The VW drove great though. Solid feeling car and lots of fun. One day I'll buy a Saab even though I know I'll be sorry.
I own a Saab 9-5 Aero wagon. Great Car to Drive if you keep it maintained. Downside about it, is owning one in the U.S. And trying to find parts for it!!! Very difficult!!!
@Chrispisz12 this is funny because i have a 9-5 and every time someone new gets in my car they see the little slot and say "whats this" then they press it and go "wow thats the sweetest fucking thing ever!" my good friend calls my car the "batmobile" because it has so many buttons and gadgets haha.
i love my 9-5 so much i plan on sticking with saab for daily drivers after owning and im a huge vw/audi guy ive had 4 gti's
When the Saab was released, the 911 Turbo wasn't going from 40 to 60 that fast...And your comment about the Saabs being stupid proves that you've never handled a serious wheel in your life.
Serious wheel? Ha. Only idiots buy Saabs, seriously. I was smart enough not to waste money to buy a piece of shit car. You call it stupid, but I call smart to avoid buying retarded cars. Ask anyone. How is it stupid to avoid buying a crappy car? I think I'll stick to my Japanese and German imports ranging from Lexus to Mercedes Benz. I'm sorry but only idiots buy Saab. Waste of money and at the end, you just feel stupid because you wasted your money.
Have you ever been in a Saab?I've owned three, those cars were just the best cars i've ever driven,in terms of confort, reliability it was far better than any german car of this size.Nowadays, Mercedes has become a huge piece of crap, and no one buy Lexus here in Europe because it's just some kind of expensive Toyota.I've seen in your profile that you are from the US,so i understand that Saab doesn't sound very familiar to you,but believe me,it's a pretty nice legendary car.
dah...for me SAAb's are quite dull...I drove some 9-5 2.3t....prefer some VW even if they never heard about reliability lol.... for reliability I would prefer some jap...like an altima or something like that...
VW?Are VW producing premium cars like Saab?No sir,and the Phaeton is way too expensive. So there isn't any comparision possible between the two brands. And Altima, dunno, never seen any in europe, but i' wouldn't trust a brand which has been bought by Renault a few years ago.

You sir, are just a big fatass with fingers. Saab can kick anything you can throw at it. Go learn what a good car makes. Then start barking your head off at youtubers.
No factory car will ever do 20 PSI, because its too unhealthy for the car, idiot. Really? Saab can beat anything? Nissan Skyline GT-R? Skyline R34? 370Z? 350Z? NSX? G37/G35? Honda S2K? IS-F? LFA? IS350? TL-S? TL SHAWD? EVO X? STI WRX? Ralliart? WRX? RX-8? RX-7? Need I say more? You're a pathetic piece of shit to think your statement is true. "Saab can beat anything". LOL, and you tell me to go learn? You just got owned. Learn something about cars, idiot.
I found your comment funny because you called me a kid and said I can't afford those cars. Well obviously when you call someone a kid that means they are under the age of 13, so I don't see how a 13 year old can be driving anyways. Secondly, I'm 21. While thirdly, I'm a college student so no shit I can't afford those cars, but hey, my parents buy it for me. So I think I have a Benz while you are some loser with no Benz. You are a funny adult, because you lack having a life.

you got it! i've got nothing to do right now. my saab runs amazing, my benz is ready to be sold and passat is all painted! my homework is done too... btw i'm 24...
Saabs are for real men with no need to boost their ego with flashy bmw's or audis. 40 to 70 stock aero is faster than a 911 turbo, i have stage 3 aero which is evern faster. most comfy seats of any car too, forget handling we drive on public roads not track besides handling pretty good anway!
The thing about having a saab, and the reason why saabowners always have a smile on their face, is that it's simply better in every way. Got a 900 from 1994, and i never wanna own anything else.
@antoine1598 he was just refering to the second gear pull. form 40-70. I own a 9-5, obviously would rather own a 911...but on a real note it is very quick from that speed range.
@DRFTBling711 ohh ok thats what it meant... I understand you would like to own a 911 but consider yourself lucky because you own a SAAB 9-5 which is a very good car ! I'd still like to see a race between these two cars rolling at 40mph ...
@sawyerbobby The design of the new model is still GM. It takes minimum five years to design a new car. Much like Ford with Jaguar, they didn't get the right cars out until it would be up to someone else to sell them. Hopefully Spyker can sell and service the cars efffectively.
@hopala007 you should better buy an audi, bmw or vw. there you can find, what you are searching for: boring perfection. saab never was a brand for the masses and i hope it will never be. it would be better for saab to "die" in dignity than to follow the latest trend.
@dschonsie They dont have any other option. If they go on with the boring models its the end of the story. They have now a chance to be an alternative on the bmw, audi or mercedes, if they produce better cars.
@hopala007 Well, you should be looking at the all new 9-5. That looks very nice, as good as a 5-series for instance. And I am not some oldie with a wheelchair or something like that, im just 20 years old but I seriously prefer this to an A6, XF or E. Only the 5-series BMW would stop me buying the new 9-5 (if I had the money)
Im so tired of Saabs... I live in Trollhättan, where they make Saabs, and like more than 50% of all cars here are saabs! Haha all the aero owners think theyre driving supercars... I just laugh at them in my rs6.
Anyone know the name of the music used at 4 minutes and 16 seconds into the video (I've heard it before, but I have no idea what it's called or who composed/wrote it)?
@xkamir2112x When you ask something like that, you put the time in it like this 4:16 . That way someone can click on it and go straight to where you need them to.
All I can say to this is, no matter how good that old 9-5 was , with all it's GM restrictions during design etc, the new one (admittedly still with a lot of GM bits under the hood)was given more freedom in design and technology, and therefore should eat the old one for breakfast. Hope Topgear will test that theory and let us know :-)
I have the old Swedish made Saab 93 2.0 NON Turbo and when you get it up to 40mph it go like a Jet the top end is just nuts. GM made a balls of the new saab, saab should be made where it was first made at the beginning in Sweden !!
The car industry was sold to the US and now to Holland, and the aeronautical industry was sold to Britain. Whatever is pumped out now, it certainly isn't Swedish.
I can't wait to see how the new 9-5 will drive. It'd never buy this version because it looks like crap, but if they keep some of the good driving characteristics into that sexy new body, it'll be a winner!
@jabajabamaster No it started dying in the 1990s, because GM were shoving Vauxhall Vectra chassis in the cars. The 9000 mk.2 was a half GM creation. They also started putting v6 engines in everything. It was when they made a 9-5 and 9-3 DIESEL when TrueSaab (TM) died
I also have 2006 Saab 9-5. Its pretty quick i must say but when i turn "sport" mode on then WOW... it throws your head back, i have beaten a Porsche Box S (new model) either 2009 or 2010 with ease... At the next red light he asked me what mods i have done to the car besides the exhaust?? I said the exhaust is stock... and so is the engine. He didn't believe me :)
A bit pointless review. He should've reviewed it on the public roads, not a track.
You don't buy a Saab to thrash it round a track.
You buy it for the superb reliability, quality, comfort and the great performance to be used to overtake cars and driving on twisty roads. All of these things is what it's great in.
This is almost the same car we use to muck about on the farm it not the Aero version Just the light Turbo 2.3 2004could'nt take it on the roads though we have rev,d the arse out of it and the Turbo is Fooked. was great fun until we bent the steering rack when we hit a tree stump, Will look for an Aero version at the Auction if one come up cheap.
there the best cars man, I was like what jeremy, saying wtf, saabs fuk that, now...in my household theres 3 saabs, drove one, saab all the way. that S button is Daymmm wow
It's all about the overtaking. That's the whole thing. A Saab pretty much anihilates any other car when it comes to overtaking. Get behind, 3rd gear in, pedal to the floor... You got Your fighter jet.
I don't think Top Gear knows what to make about Saabs. In fact, I don't think anybody does.
Well, other than GM, who see fit to ruin the company's reputation.

@xkamir2112x When you ask something like that, you put the time in it like this 4:16 . That way someone can click on it and go straight to where you need them to.

@Genevieve1023 Thank you, I'll try to remember that in future.

Im finally getting me a sexy sexy saab next month finally. I should be getting an '05 9-3
pjikore 1 year ago
All I can say to this is, no matter how good that old 9-5 was , with all it's GM restrictions during design etc, the new one (admittedly still with a lot of GM bits under the hood)was given more freedom in design and technology, and therefore should eat the old one for breakfast. Hope Topgear will test that theory and let us know :-)

Did top gear do a review on the 2006 - 2009 models ? Would love to see it if the did, once you drive a Saab you dont go for anything else,
xReventonx 1 year ago
@xReventonx nope, they havent...
torod213 1 year ago
My suggestion, if the new 9-5 is on sale get that one. this 9-5 is super dated and the9-3 is getting there as well.

Thank you, but I will buy the JET.

arospeed169 1 year ago
hey i was looking into getting a saab but i was wondering what are the differences between the 9-5 and the 9-3
what are your recommendations?
I2eQui3m 1 year ago
I have the old Swedish made Saab 93 2.0 NON Turbo and when you get it up to 40mph it go like a Jet the top end is just nuts. GM made a balls of the new saab, saab should be made where it was first made at the beginning in Sweden !!
rolex0071 1 year ago
The reason why people who drive SAABs have a smile on their face is because they are so happy that the car is working. I know, i have one.
bentleyv8t 1 year ago 16
The car took off first b4 the plane yeah 0to 30 kph lol
Yiftaki 1 year ago
The car industry was sold to the US and now to Holland, and the aeronautical industry was sold to Britain. Whatever is pumped out now, it certainly isn't Swedish.
Athaeus 1 year ago
I can't wait to see how the new 9-5 will drive. It'd never buy this version because it looks like crap, but if they keep some of the good driving characteristics into that sexy new body, it'll be a winner!
Waffleater1 1 year ago
I love SAAB . I wish they still sold them in Canada
ludicer 1 year ago
@ludicer To Canada? Why? I would have loved if VW or BMW bought it, because then it would have the good points of both!
AdrianC12345 1 year ago
Its letterbox visibility comes from the aeronautical industry.

Saab died somewhere in the end of the 70's...
jabajabamaster 1 year ago
@jabajabamaster It's back now with Spyker :-)
DJFG85 1 year ago
@DJFG85 Which is awesome. The guys that make the sharp C8 and the godly C12 Zagato are now behind Saab? I can't wait to see what comes of it!
UberMan5000 1 year ago
@jabajabamaster No it started dying in the 1990s, because GM were shoving Vauxhall Vectra chassis in the cars. The 9000 mk.2 was a half GM creation. They also started putting v6 engines in everything. It was when they made a 9-5 and 9-3 DIESEL when TrueSaab (TM) died
VTS1337 1 year ago
I also have 2006 Saab 9-5. Its pretty quick i must say but when i turn "sport" mode on then WOW... it throws your head back, i have beaten a Porsche Box S (new model) either 2009 or 2010 with ease... At the next red light he asked me what mods i have done to the car besides the exhaust?? I said the exhaust is stock... and so is the engine. He didn't believe me :)

just be careful! this thing will get you into trouble :P
Frank2029 1 year ago
@Frank2029 Haha.
So I'm guessing that from takeoff to around 30 mph that it's a little sluggish, but from then on it just jets off?

MMApolish 2 years ago
i have a 95, and only people who have them or have driven them know of the preformance.
Ive personally trashed SubaruSti on the highway pretty easy, saabs are king after 120....
I can do 70 mph in secont gear and that comes around 2 and a half seconts from 30 mph.
This isnt a track car, its a real road car thats quik in the real world, drive one, you;ll see.....
Howie262 2 years ago
A bit pointless review. He should've reviewed it on the public roads, not a track.
You don't buy a Saab to thrash it round a track.
You buy it for the superb reliability, quality, comfort and the great performance to be used to overtake cars and driving on twisty roads. All of these things is what it's great in.
legendapoju22 2 years ago 14
id rather drive the 9-3..looks better i think

I have a '98 9-5 2.3t with 190 bhp. A good-looking, nice-sounding car, great handling, great torque, and most of the all, the mid-rev turbo boost.
love it.

It's all about the overtaking. That's the whole thing. A Saab pretty much anihilates any other car when it comes to overtaking. Get behind, 3rd gear in, pedal to the floor... You got Your fighter jet.
