All I see is a movie of a family helping a homeless child who turns into a great NFL player. I think it would have been nice to bring Michael on the view and voice his opinion on that. See if Vanessa and Joy would ask him the same things they seem to be concerned about. I would really like to hear his part in all of it.
so i have a question. why is race a issue? the facts are he was a homeless teenager. they were a well to do family. The mother took a shine to him and found talent in him that saved his life. i watched the movie and it does not seem to matter one way or another
so i have a question. why does race have to de am issue? the facts are he was a homeless teenager, they were a well to do christian family. who helped and found talent in him why is race a issue
they should just have Michael Oher on the show, because they seem to forget the film was made telling his actual story. it's what he saw and what he went through. instead of valuing him and his overcoming of struggles we are arguing over the theme? give me a break.
I love how all the white people say, "It's a true story. What's the big deal?" Had they made a movie with a black person rescuing a white person, they'd say, "Well...I thought it was unrealistic."
@Ramal123 I doubt white people would say that. This movie isnt just "based on" a true story it's about a REAL person. that is what the focus should be on, the human being. race shouldn't have gotten in the way of viewing the film. if the character was white and it was a black family, not much would have changed. the story would still be based on the individuals struggles, no matter what color he or the family is because the film is about the character.
The issue is that since the story is about a white family helping a homeless boy who happens to be black is a BIG DEAL. Look at how the movie Precious was depicted. You don't see people getting all upset because that is the reality. Just like the BLIND SIDE was a REAL reality for Michael Oher.
These women are dummies as will al the commentors. This is a true story and a great story and lest face it, It was nominated many times for Academy Awards. You dont see them disecting MTV and all the sick rappers and tits and asses and sex in everything that is in a MTV video. That is ok. But a touching story like this gets the View talking crap about it. These are old crappy hags that that dont know crap. And for the one that said hew was portrayed as mentally challenged. He was...
I felt the same way Vanessa did when I saw the film. The interactions between the Mike character and the other black actors were scathing and really odd to me.
Why didn't Barbara acknowledge Vanessa's issue in the first place? She seemed really quick to beat that thought down.
As for the person below:
Race SHOULDN'T matter, but that doesn't negate the fact that in this world, it does.
I hate how Barbara shrugs off Vanessa's concerns. What Vanessa says is true. White people saving black people is a common theme racist in movies. Every black person in The Blind Side who is NOT Mike Orr is unwilling to help him, a thug, drug dealer, or a drunk. You see this theme more in movies about education...where pretty white teachers save poor kids of color.
And Barbara did not even let Vanessa speak before she interrupted her with her typical Barbara combination of ignorance and self-righteousness. Barbara Walters is completely out of touch and needs to go.
Thank you Vanessa and Joy for trying to say something intelligent!
Race shouldn't matter but it does in the real world not the dream world of peaches and cream and all perfect things. Sounds great but reality is and other circumstances outweigh denial.
It is so unnerving to see people get upset over this. I am a black person but it does not define my character. If I was a child in need of a break I do not care where it comes from. If I have no family would it not be a better situation to have one. children need love and no matter the race of the parent if they are giving a loving home then so be it. It is twisted how people always see the bad in everything. getting adopting is a good thing!
Barbara Walters comes across as a bitch in this...she won't let anyone get a word in edgewise when she has a thought, how freaking rude is that!? Why even have a panel of hosts if you are just going to dictate the entire conversation if no one agrees with your point of view?!
Only shows that we have to make our own movies to show positive representations. On top of that though we as black people need to support those movies. $ talks it did in the civil rights movement and it still does now.
I agree with Vanessa. Sad that Barbara didn't give Van the opportunity to completely make her point. There have been tons of these white savior movies and Van gave her view as a black person not wanting to see them over and over. Where are the movies of black families adopting white kids or black teachers going into a white school to save white students. Race SHOULDN'T matter but it STILL DOES.
Vanessa's right .First off the nelson Mandela story avatar ,and this movie all released the same year put blks at the bottom being saved by caucasions.Precious which was a horrific story potrayed all the stereotypes of blk people to life on film which won monique the role of playing a stereotypical uneductaed welfare recipent who was angry and abusive as hell.
i agree with vanessa. its like you have to be white to have the lead role or to be the hero. like in the movie "the hangover", the black guy is the drug dealer, and the asian is some neardy joke. this applies to all movies and tv shows out there. its like 65 percent of the US is white, but 98 percent of the media is white because we continue to accept these stereotypes and thats what sells.
I can't believe it but this is the first time I totally agree with Barbara Walters. Please, Vanessa....how many movies like that have been out recently? Finding Forrester? Was that like 15 years ago? Who even watched that? Is she going to start equating The Blind Side with Webster and Different Strokes next.? IT was a true story, and it was an inspiring story, and if you are truly not racist, you would not even look at it in terms of race.
ummm didn't Matt Damon just star as a white man helping out Africans and saving the day? Wasn't Avatar a white guy that saved the ethnic people? yeah, same theme sorry VAnessa was right. Barbara would be right if more movies with blacks were out. Plus the controversy with that Mathew Vaughn movie doesn't help either. And asking Mo-nique's opinion when she was up for an award and in a movie that's typically themed wasn't gonna generate a for real answer. PUHHH LEASSSEE.
Yea strange Baraba decided to bring up that the "black thu" were making fun of the black child in Blind Side and that she asked Mo'nique a black woman for her point of view on negative black representation in Precious. I wonder why she didn't finish her "black thu" sounded like she was going to say "black thug".
I love how elizabeth didn't read the book, yet she was quoting messages from it. I also LOVE how everything with her is a political party. Absolutely EVERYTHING.
I notice that most republicans are dumb white women with blonde hair lol

WTF? Is Joy Barfar complaining that a true story was told over her fictional story of a liberal who takes in a child in need?
