  • So "animate charisma" is what they're calling it nowadays?

  • If I ever find myself in a tricky situation at work, I simply animate charisma

  • Wheres the rest of it??

  • The Lesbian News from the BBC...

  • nothin usual!

  • This is genuine. I was in the gallery for the BBC 6 O'Clock news a little later in the year for my work experience and it was the same production team (in those days most BBC Directors and gallery staff were all well-spoken folk. Sign of the times!) . 'Animate Charisma' is too 80s specific for any faker to know that it was the computer graphics box used by the BBC's vision mixers at this time to do transitions.

  • @culttelevision Yep, it all sounds way too authentic. It's been a while, but I seem to remember that News VTs were simply A, B, C while everywhere else they were numbered (VT1, VT2, etc). That's the kind of detail you'd have to be a seriously good faker to get right. The folks who are claiming that the whole intro sequence would have been pre-recorded are wrong - the order could change even after the bulletin had started, and that level of organised chaos is normal for a news gallery.

  • I remember this happening. Sue just calmly carries on with it as if it happens all the time. The bunch of jokers they have today reaing the news would run away if this happened now.

  • I remember watching this live, Sue was very cool

  • Did you hear Witchell said "fucking dyke get the fuck out of my fucking studio or I'll fucking rape you".

  • I'd suggest that both Sue Lawley and Nicholas Witchell are both homophobic, Tory loving toffs, so to be invaded by a group of butch gay women trying to stand up for their rights must have been a horrific experience for both of them. She appearantly still has nightmares about it. Ha Ha Ha :)

  • @keithc1977 LOL hilarious. She was a total bitch to Vivienne Westwood on live T.V, always disliked her after that.

  • Sue Lawley... such a cool cat. I doubt many of the simpering tarts the BBC has fronting its news today would remain so professional in the event of a studio invasion.

  • I love how posh and public school the guy sounds

  • Why the director not always asks that women to count??

  • @akomor1 The countdown is for cueing video clips to start on the "charisma" animation. No countdown is required for stills or to go to live feed on Sue Lawley.

  • i love it - witchell is astride a lesbian in the corner, hand over her gob but the news goes on! .... oh bravo sue bravo dear.

  • Fucking Dykes !!

  • I remember ITN making a very big smug deal over this incident, and getting criticised for it. Great stuff!

  • You sure it wasnt "Fucking hell, we've had enough of these people"?

  • You could be right, I thought it was nutters though. This is a classic video - how on earth has it come to light? This was the best 6 O Clock news ever; a fantastic achievement, if a little pointless, by the invaders. And v.professional by Sue L. (and the director).

  • @SimonDolan Nah....Its never pointless to take direct action against Tory cunts.

  • No, definitely not - it's "we've got nutters in the studio". The director has only just noticed that there's a problem, so why would he say "We've had enough of these people" as if he'd been aware of their presence for some time?

  • Oh fucking hell weve got nutters in the studio!!!!! Lol!!!!

  • i love the bit at about ten seconds when the news director says "oh fucking hell, we've got nutters in the studio"

    Classic

  • Get him out!!! - they must have been real butch lesbians!

  • And of course, there was nothing militant or Nazi about that statement was there? Brainless fuck!

  • @cheesyfeet1976 And you want to get rid of gays and lesbians just because they have a different opinion from you, yet you call them Nazis?

    Look who's the Nazi now . . .

  • Can't believe all the news directors used to shout out "Animate Charisma" during the titles. Surely just "charisma" would have sufficed! I've always thought that title sequences on news bulletins should be pre-recorded, and only coming live for the first main story. Even without the studio invasion on this occasion, the amount of gallery activity was always destined to be an accident waiting to happen. The director even had to shout "wide shot" to Camera 2.

  • Only because the cameraman was distracted, I'd have thought.

  • What a fantastic clip - never seen the control room version.

The Lesbian Avengers ROCK! Love THEM! LEGENDS!

    Go girls!

    Thanks for posting

  • dont worry blingbling, i dont think any lesbians would want to screw a bigot like you

  • I like that, Oh fucking hell weve got a nutter in the studio, get security..!!

    Lol

  • Can someone explain this. Was this broadcast over the air or was it taken from some internal tapes in the BBC?

  • its an internal tape that includes the gallery audio (not broadcast)

  • @floydianworld What you see after the countdown clock was broadcast over the air and some of the sound you hear. Other parts of the sound and the countdown clock weren't broadcast.

  • get out now lol

  • What the h*ll is "animate charisma"??

  • Charisma was an early graphics system that was used to manipulate live video and provide various effects and transitions so the director is simply telling the operator to hit the space bar or whatever they did to cue the next transition :-)

This clip is fantastic. I remember watching it live and it's great to hear what was going on in the gallery at the time.

  • I agree. Its hilarious!!! Im going to go round saying "Animate charisma!"

  • A pity he reserved that for the graphics and not the presenters

  • @heyarnoldsknee LOL.

  • great clip with the gallery - i wonder why they stayed on the air for so long though?

  • oh fucking hell there's a nutter in the studio....!!!!

  • this is gas!!!]

  • dickhead!

  • I second that

  • A simple 'fuck you asshole' does it for me...

  • LOL, I remember watching this back then and finding it hilarious and rather random. Heard the day after that Nicholas Witchell had to restrain one of the lesbians by sitting on her while Sue Lawley carried on regardless. Sadly, this priceless image was never filmed.

  • Riley dykes. Its a pity that England has mortgaged its future and gone leftist since Thatcher.

  • I remember watching this live-Now what if they were terrorists.

They did however have a legitimate cause to protest but this was the wrong place however.

  • bedsandbellies just full of insight there

  • I remember watching this live as a young gay lad, someone had to do something to attempt to stop the Nazi Tory's . . . Good on ya Girls! Excellent

  • "Oh fucking hell there's a nut in the studio!"

    "GET SECURITY QUICKLY!"

  • "WHOOO HOOO!"

    "GET OUT NOW!"

    "THREE, TWO, ONE, ZERO"

    "ANIMATE (sounds like charisma)"

  • Questech Charisma. It's a 2D or 3D (dependant on which boards are fitted) DVE which does the page turn effects between the VT segments.

  • I suspect they wouldn't get them out for you.

  • This is genius!

  • Rather invaded. lol Oh FACKING HELL

  • The studio incident was real but I suspect the gallery talkback is fake and has been added.

  • @doubledeckers Just to add to what others have said, it was actually standard BBC practice at the time - and may even still be, I don't know - to record the gallery talkback as well as the transmitted audio output when recording live news bulletins. This was partly so that if controversial editorial decisions were made by the director or editor while the bulletin was on air, they could be reviewed by management by listening to what was actually said in the gallery at the time.

  • Deffo not a fake, someone at the Beeb just sent me the link, it's the Beeb's record copy, not what went out on the air.

  • We all know this isn't a fake, I remember this happening live, we thought it was IRA terrorists or something in our house! Fascinating pieve of UK TV history, thanks for sharing

  • lol

  • Oh fucking hell, we got nutters in the studio! lol

  • why were they saying 'stop section 28?' what was all this about?

  • Go to Wikipedia and look up Section 28. All will be explained.

  • section 28 of the local government act 1988 banned the "promotion of homosexuality in England and Wales in Schools.

  • THIS IS THE BEST THING IVE EVER SEEN! sorry for the capitals! lol

  • This is a fake. Victor Lewis Smith did this years ago.

  • It's not fake , My mate at the BBC was in the gallery at the time.

  • No, it's not a fake, BBC News has always been aired live and I remember seeing this 6 o'clock news broadcast when I was a kid, they were invaded.

  • Very interesting. Someone else on YouTube claims to have uploaded the original clip, wonder if this is a fake. I dunno lol

  • Their's was original in that it was the off-air version, whereas this is mixed with talkback. I have no reason to believe this is fake.

  • I uploaded an edit of the 'broadcast' version.

Why do people think the talkback is fake? If it is then it's perfectly observed and executed! Tapes like this have been privately circulating for ages, so it's no surprise that this has popped up online.

Thanks for uploading this. It's the first time I've seen it.
