    They most certainly are not. However you can crush and break the environment in real time, extremely easily. Which basically means that you can shoot with a gun at a wall, and it will break, giving you passag to the other side. Voxels are (currently) used for epic rendering at a great fps. However as far as data storage and rotations are concerned, we have some work to do.

  • I love VoxelStein 3D, But where can i get the full game?

    I can only be in that house, if i go outside the game will end. :(

    BTW: Just started to play VoxelStein, so i don't know much 'bout it.

  • @disvulneravel not yet son not yet, but minecraft is leading the revolution its polygon-voxel based also check automataengine which is 100% voxel based, youtube after it

  • @PhrackTheLord That remains to be seen. It has quite a few things going for it, but it uses a tremendous amount of dataspace, compression needs to be made a lot better. But it could make API's obsolete, a big plus since the weak knees of Khronos.

  • @lesleyhenriquez Data will probably become math based, but I dont know how far this will be in the future since it can be a heavy process, although gpgpu friendly. But for a lot of games a tilebased setup would suffice.

    Did you said about the same thing about vertex when you saw Asteroids?

    The only reason we didn't use 3d pixmap when developing 3d graphic technologies is due to the restrained memory size and because vertex are dirt cheap. When memory is abundant, voxel are superior to vertex in every way.

    We already reached the limit of what vertex can do. Fuck off!

    Right. Many people associate voxel with "pixelated graphic" but in general this is not true. It's possible to use polygons to represent voxel geometry. Search for "marching cubes" applications.

    So I agree: voxel is superior (see for example destructible geometry!).
