  • so franglish

  • copy of Infibeam Pi !!

  • wtf is this? what's that glare? wow. This screen is soooo last decade.

  • Is this guy doing a video at work? LOL...if so he's got some huge balls.

  • @jamalski70 what if he works for the company that makes the device, or a distributor, and making this review is part of their ninja marketing strategy? lol

  • I still prefer to feel the book in my hands!

  • this is not reading, this is screening. this is not an e-reader, this is an e-screener. google me to find out more: danny bloom and alex beam

  • I'm sure anything is better than the Kindle. Heck the Kindle is a black and white 1990s looking cheapo storage device. And it's seriously overpriced. My Pocket PC does everything the Kindle does and a lot lot more and in color.

  • yeah but it does not have epaper, you're missing the point of these devices.

With epaper you can read it outside in the bright sunlight. This is when good old fashioned real paper wins, but mabey epaper, now if only they where to be more realisticly priced...

  • why does a book have to be in color?? your reading!!! not playing a gameboy.

  • @017madi, Why not? and that's an inaccurate comparison. For example there are comic book fanatics out there who would love to read their comic e books on a color kindle. The kindle should appeal to all reading formats not only the black and white spectrum.

  • @017madi Books appeal to all types of reading spectrums color and b&w and this should be the point of the kindle or any other reading device if they wish to appeal to all reading types, like books do. After all the whole point of a kindle is to be exactly like a book. And books come in both b&w and color in all reading spectrums.

  • i have a pocket pc and a kindle - i would never, ever consider reading books on my pocket pc, the kindle is 1000x better for this purpose

  • I purchased my new CyBook Gen3 with the red leather cover a month ago. I LOVE it BUT it freezes approx 15 mins into reading. Its not the batt as that is still 90 or 100% charged. I have to press the re-set button and then it takes me back to the page I started on in that reading session. SO annoying as I then have to turn all the pages to find where I was up to B4 it froze. Then try to relax and read always anticipating WHEN it will freeze again.

  • looks like teh screen is bigger. I say its way than the Kindle if screen is larger.

  • In my opinion, Kindles better than any other e-book to present day.

  • yeah, it's so good it doesn't even support pdf (without lame ass conversion). it's crap.

  • And there's no backlight. So you can't read in dark environment. Crap. True.

  • Weird that people are so hang up with PDF and DOC format. I don't care for these bloated formats. It takes too much space and sluggish. DOC files takes 19,000 more bytes compared to a plain ASCII text file. Try it. Save one character on Word and Notepad and compare the file size. I keep all my articles in text files. I use Word only for WORD PROCESSING. That is what Word is for. PDF has its use. Same people crying to read PDF and Word file on their 3" PDA or cellphone. Give me a break.

  • bloated formats? trying doing journal-worthy science or mathematics publications in DOC you complete idiot. you CAN'T. ps, dvi, and pdf and essential formats, and pdf is by far more popular than the former two. ever download academic journal articles? obviously not. because if you did, you'd realize they're ALL in pdf. IDIOT.

  • I write/read professional journals all the time. Part of my job as a research faculty in our EE Dept. Every format has its place. I own both Sony and Kindle reader. I also use HP digital sender for paper transmission and it uses PDF (since 90s to replace fax). I have no problems with PDF. I sure don't want it on my G1 or my PDA (older) even though they are capable. I prefer my heavy math collaborative articles to be in LaTeX. BTW, I don't call people names when I disagree with someone.

  • pdf bloated? Do you have a better way of ensuring that every system which views a file PRESERVES the fonts, etc. used in the creation of the original document? Sure, in some instances djvu produces a smaller file, but it's a comparatively limited format. And how is latex even an option if you want to share NON-EDITABLE documents? Do you send everyone your latex file when you wish to share your work? That's hilarious.

  • you're missunderstanding the point of PDF, it evolved from postscript which was designed for printing. The difference is that it will alway print out the same, whereas word processed documents retain their flexibility.

I think a wikipedia session is in order

  • But why must we CONVERT our old files? Would it be so difficult tom let us use DOC and PDF? Why not all formats? (or at least all the important ones, then the user can decide!)

  • @Heimdall01

there's a filmware update that allows pdf use

  • I hope you are on the kindle advertising pay roll.

  • similar to all the devices with e-link, would like to see a video showing if we can read a PDF on this devices..

  • Download

    'Beasts of the Harvest Moon'

    by John T. Taylor

    available for the Kindle

  • all a good tech review of these things should be is putting the screen into a position where it's getting glare and showing us how easy it is to look past it and read.

  • The case looks like one of the original Palm Pilots from 1990's.

It seems still there are product designers who have learnt nothing from Apple :/

  • I bought a Cybook Gen3 from Booken.

In less than a week the display stopped working. The unit had not had been dropped, hit, or damaged in any way.

Booken declined to repair or replace the unit under warranty stating, "the warranty does not cover broken parts".

They offered a repair for 100 Euros plus shipping. I suspect this is about their cost for a new unit.

The product seems good, but reliability seems to be an issue. The company ethics also seems to be a major problem.

  • does the device tie us down to a software like apple itunes?

    i hate itunes.

  • 1. larger screen

    2. eInk - easier on the eyes for long readings

    3. extremely low power consumption

  • Doesn't break

  • So just how are you supposed to read PDFs on a iPhone ?

  • i think its too small

  • Interesting review.

This this looks a lot more sleeker then the kindle and I like the fact that it can more easily work with pdf files. However, the lack of wireless is disconcerting. No wifi, blutooth, or cell service like kindle. What makes kindle so great is the fact that it has free cell access to wikipedia and of course a very large selection of books from anywhere that has cell service. If amazon merges with this thing though, that would certainly improve it.

  • I buy a lot of pdf's and I've heard that many of these readers do not handle pdf's well... how does this one do?
