My mom hates how they throw stuff at him. Well I'd have to agree with her on that but Hell I think they should throw money at him--he'd be a richer man!!!
I remember watchin' this growing up.What made tv like this so fun back then was they could actually have fun doing what they did without having to worry about offending someone or even god forbid being politically correct. We would watch this, then we got to go outside, and play with something called a "stick", in stuff called "dirt",and the only thing we had to worry about was being home in time for supper.
Wow! I must have been totally stoned to enjoy watching Gene Gene The Dancing Machine back then, oh thats right, I WAS STONED! Thanks for the flashback, I actually enjoyed it!
And you tell me that people don't use drugs today? Don't be such a spaz man! And stop hating the 70s and putting it down, NEWSFLASH: not everybody got high in those days.
America might have 'Talent' now... but this is pure entertainment and a kind of class people don't get anymore. Only Simon Cowell could could make this look bad.
For me, GGtDM personified the utterly impulsiveness and complete zaniness of the Gong Show. I would pay $ to see Chuck and Gene on Dancing With The Stars.
Gene (Gene Patton) actually worked as a stagehand on the Gong Show and was later a stagehand for the Tonight Show. He lost both legs to Diabetes about 10 years ago but is still alive
Wore the same outfit, everytime!! LOL! This guy was a hoot, I hated it when the cameras would show anyone else dancing! I wish they would have focused on him through the whole routine. He was funny!
@yolowell Well, that explains why so much good talent was possible! Cocaine helps fuel creativity, unlike today when there is no talent and no creativity. LONG LIVE THE 70s dig THAT to your grave brother!
Gene, Gene shuffled his way into a lot of us American's hearts. May his legend live on. He almost became the "Gong Show" personified. I remember when he first was on and I believe got Gonged. He was like the Phoenix rose from the ashes and helped make Chuck Barris a rich man. When Gene is on .. "gag the Gong."

How can you not love Gene Gene and the Unknown Comic?!
The Gong Show was one crazy-ass show, to be sure, but Chuck Barris was one crazy ass son of a bitch.
And I mean that in a good way.
Rock on, you crazy fuckers.

Heres the deal.. If it takes coke fueled hosts to have quality programming in the US, then lets get the poppy fields planted ASAP.

@hwoods01 Um, I think you mean cocoa plants. Poppy plants are for opium. Just sayin'.

Barris had a STRICT no drugs policy on his shows. Yes, the show pushed the envelope a LOT, but drugs were absent.

@RayNDeere And if I remember correctly, when he decided to retire, the Tonight Show gave him a sendoff by letting him dance one last time.

I saw him on the tonight show, when he retired. I believe he was one of the lighting guys on both shows

@yolowell Chuck Barris has said, and I believe him, that he, at least, was never under the influence of any drug when they shot the Gong Show.
