Drive a high compression normally aspirated engine is a lot more fun than turbolag. No matter what people argue laws of physics and thermodynamics will always hold true and displacement is always the way to make big power.

You'd be surprised how much a Miata can teach you about driving. If you can perfect the art of extracting every last drop of performance out of a Miata, you'll be a damn good driver.

The fact that they're inexpensive, reliable convertibles means that some individuals buy them for that reason. The car is an excellent driver's car out of the box though and the chassis is capable of handling and putting down around 3 times the stock power output if you want to modify it.

I think most people cannot handle their car's power output in all honesty. Most people are unable to drive their car at the absolute limit, it takes a highly skilled driver to extract full performance out of a car like an S2000 even (And it only has 240hp or so at the crank). The Miata is well tuned overall and is balanced. Cars like a stock base model C6 corvette are way overpowered for their suspension setup and will bite an inexperienced driver in a heartbeat if they try to go hard in turns.

it's not too hard, just like any other car with a motor swap. it's still a miata, you just have to let them know it's modified. they don't really ask how extensively most of the time. I only pay $40 a month for my monster :)

They aren't that expensive even for a newer one with vvt making 290 HP considering its been succeeded by the 4.3L 3UZ-FE and the current 4.6L 1UR-FSE. The original Toyota V8 came out in 1989 on the LS400 and trust me, EVERY auto mag was praising it for its smoothness and reliability.

Get smart and put the Lexus V8 into that Miata, not a crappy, unreliable Ford. The V8s from Lexus are smaller, much lighter, more fuel efficient, and more reliable. By next year, Toyota's going to release their latest V8, a 5.0L 2UR-FSE which will put out close to 500 HP stock and be just as fuel efficient as their current lineup.
