hey, i just wired my own auxiliary wire for my amp so i can play music through the amp since it allows things like that. im pretty sure i did it right but the music is really soft and barely audible. do i need a power source or something?
why not just take two pair of old hear phones and strip back the wire then connect right to right left to left then ground to ground, then tape it off?
@xcracer2 He could have used proper twin shielded cable and used the braid/shield as the ground. on his cable it seems pointless using too many wires and a braid that isn't connected to anything as it will help make any interferece worse through inductive coupling.
thats pretty cool but you can buy those in RS for a few bux but the issue is is that nothing lasts anymore so nice build. and BTW you only need 3 wires for a stereo signal left right and ground. unless the extra wire cuts interference and noise somehow. id rather build my own cables anyway lol.
Nice Work! I make a lot of cables but I have had issues with the Neutrik 1/8 inch plugs. They tend to short out on me. I got my boss to buy the Switchcraft plugs and have had better luck.
Normally I just use 22 gauge 1 pair shielded/stranded wire like West Penn 291.
I am wondering whether you can similar video to demonstrating how to install/connect aux jack input to a car radio (special Astra 06) enabling you to connect you mp3 player to your cars (some cars don't have aux jack like mine) if can cant no problem.
Shrink tube for mini-plug is 3/8". Best way to cut the nylon is with a hot knife. If you do not have a hot knife cut with scissors then heat gently with a torch.
The cable will sound better if the braid is done correctly. The Litz braid pattern has a wide bandwidth and excellent phase peformance, making it a great choice for low level audio signals like an aux. input cable. That being said, it's not the end of the world if your braid is not perfect. It'll probably still sound a lot better than most commercially available cables. Thanks for watching and DIY!
Only strip the wire enough to loop it around the post. After soldering you can snip off the excess wire but you want the insulation to end up as close to the post as possible. I've added a video showing a close-up of the soldering process. Hope this helps.
You're welcome. I had fun making it and it really sounds awesome. Excellent bass response.....perfect for the car. I should have zoomed in so you could see the soldering process better. Thanks for watching and good luck with yours.
@DIYChrisMike The bass response is nothing to do with your cable. It is down to the aux input being the same impedance as the ipod. Huge fancy audio cables costing lots of money are like the K&N of the car world. Looks nice but is no better, and in some cases worse than standard. Selling overpriced oversized cables is very easy to people who like audio equipment - they believe anything. So don't try that one about bass response being good!

@xcracer2 I've bought three aux cables from stores, only to have them wear out in a matter of months. Hopefully this will last a bit longer?

Hey, my subsequent ones failed too...
I got a question, do i strip the wire to the length enough to go through the plongs in the plugs or do I strip more?
My cable always get sound from 1 side only.
