  • I loved this film, but I haven't been able to find a copy of it. The remake with Nicole Kidman is readily available, but it seems Palomar Pictures hasn't released any copies of the original film (the good one), for a long time. Hope someone thinks to remaster a blue-ray edition some time soon.

  • @bboots100 The DVD of this movie, this 1975 version, is available on amazon.com. That's where I got mine...

  • @tonya5309 Thanks so much. Going to order it right now.

  • This is reminding me of the "S**t Nobody Says" videos!

  • Cool movie. I went through a similar transformation myself (ex-gay therapy). I'll never be the same... He, he.

  • I would like a stepford husband. Tall , dark , handsome, and a doting gentleman in public and a sex machine in private.

  • Trivia: There is a real town of Stepford, built by the Walt Disney Company as the perfect master planned city. It is named Celebration, Florida. Wikipedia qoute: " Response to Celebration has ranged from an early visitor who said it resembled the too-perfect town of The Stepford Wives, to those who see Celebration as a return to small-town values with walkable and safe communities."

  • Oh yeah, like during a real O some woman would say that to a guy. Ha.

Anybody here out of you ladies ever say to your partner "oh you're the champion you're the king you're the master"? Just wonderin'. ;)

  • Breeeng owwwt zaaaah FEMBOTS!

  • Peter Masterson who plays the husband is the father of actress Mary Stuart Masterson (Benny & Joon) - he was a staple of TV and movies for 20 years- the character wants to join a community of other men who are in complete control of their environment all the time, starting with their women-

  • The husband is out of her league but I think that's intentional; he's probably insecure about having such an amazing looking wife and is therefore attracted to the thought of having her totally compliant and unable to leave him. If he was a really good looking male he wouldn't need a Stepford wife.

  • but seriously, this is an important film, based on millions of true stories. and it debuted at precisely that historical moment when so many women were (unfortunately) abandoning the radical feminist ideals of only a few years earlier.

  • @1:06:23 apparently after ed got tired of his heated swimming pool (and ginger), he went to the big city, changed his name to tom willis and married helen.

  • She is SO out of his league lol

  • 9:30

(Husband) - "You um, ever 'make it' in front of a fire?"

    (Wife) - "Not with YOU!"

    What a bitch!

  • I'll take 3 of them.

  • FYI this not "horror". It's thriller/suspense, as well as social satire. It's both feminist commentary and a satire of the "patriarchal" conventions of that time. Much of the impact of the film was due to changing norms/fear of changing norms of that era regarding men, women and marriage. It's also an early satire on suburban middle class values, especially as homogenized/idealized in the culture.

  • This was one of the stupidist most reddiculously sterilized piece of crap I've ever seen in my life! Michael Bay or Uwe Boll could direct movies like this!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that this movie had a happy ending?

  • And by 1:15:00 I would pack my stuff and snuck out in the middle of the night.

  • There was a remake in the 80s, Stepford Children, i think it was made for tv, and it was good!

  • I found it amusing that the husband had them upgrade to a bigger rack on his wife's replacement. tee hee hee

  • i'm so creeped out[not scared]. great movie.

  • Oh man. This brings back memories. Nice touch at the end with the new couple arguing in the store.

  • And what is a Ring Ding? I am from London and I've never heard of them here in the UK. I think I've seen the name in a Stephen King book but it wasn't clear what they were.

    Jass.

  • @Potionette81 It's a cream filled chocolate snack cake. :)

  • @Potionette81 I think they are a doughnut covered in chocolate. (lol I'm from Ireland so I'm not 100% sure but thought that was what they were)

  • @Potionette81 A Ring Ding is a snack cake made by Drakes. They're devil's food -- that's kind of a dark chocolate cake filled with a kind of a vanilla creme filling and enrobed with chocolate.

  • I always wondered if Ira Levin had a secret hatred of women. He wrote A Kiss Before Dying where he kills 2 sisters then tries to kill the third, he wrote Rosemary's Baby and this. Guess we'll never know now.

  • Could they have picked an uglier actor to play her husband????

  • @TheSkylur44 lol my thoughts every time this movie is on telly. She is stunning. He's a good actor but in real life dont think she'd be with him :o

  • @EloiseDecember He is disgusting! Never saw him before or since, for which I am very thankful, how did he ever get picked for this part???? Yuck!

  • @TheSkylur44 I don't know haha. You know who would have been perfect for the part - James Caan (as he looked when he played Sonny in The Godfather). He was so hot back then and he was a complete alpha male so would have been perfect for this..

  • @EloiseDecember Actually ANYONE else would have been better; seriously, whoever cast this creep was really asleep at the wheel.

  • I'll take 1 blond and 2 brunettes. lol. Do they come with batteries?

  • @mayfieldc23 *cough* A hole!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this classic movie! I tend to love movies that I grew up watching but most of them are hard to find unless I come across someone that's as compassionate about movies from the good old days like I am.

  • Why look at you for heaven sakes! You need a fresh perked cup of coffee.

  • Awesome and creepy

  • what is a rubber suit?? at 0.49.00

  • @georgel19841 Ya got me.:(

  • Then again, maybe Walter did know in advance, but he is upset because, having been to the meeting, the reality of what is going to happen to his wife has just really hit him. He could be shaken because he still loves Joanna in many ways, but he cannot get out of the men's association and is in turmoil over the appeal of a having a perfect wife and killing his real one. Very thought provoking-movie.

    Jass.

  • 0:15:43 - 0:16:02 I wonder here how much Walter knew about what happens in Stepford, and what he found out when. Did he know BEFORE he and Joanna moved, and therefore was that the reason why he planned to come to Stepford and bought the house? However, 0:22:08 -0:24:12 where he's upset, suggests that he DIDN'T know in advance, and has just found out and is horrified. I just don't know!

    Jass.

  • @Potionette81 I think he knows - the way he says "She cooks as good as she looks" to the guy from the Men's Association near the start is sinister. I agree he gets upset when he really realises what he's signed up to. I really recommend the book, it's a short story really. The ending is, well different!

  • @mattski73 Hmmm, that's interesting! I've just noticed that Walter looks quite awestruck when he first sees Carol, so I wonder if that is because he does already know what happens, and is amazed at just how stunning and LIFELIKE she/it(?) looks.

    Jass.

  • @mattski73 Yes, he knows something is up, as evidenced by the creepy, groaning score. You're right. The clue was spooky.

  • Robots can't have baths or showers, as it would fry their circuitry. So wouldn't the kids wonder why their mums don't wash anymore, and find that odd?

  • I sort of liked the revamped version.

It was a camp version, not a remake -- I could kill for the furniture in those homes. hehe

  • Talk about a happy ending. Wow.

  • movie for the feminist brigade! the premise of this movie is ridiculous if you think about it...as if the children (and close friends) aren't gonna know their mother is replaced by a robot? as if intelligent men would be happier with a robot than a real person, and that men would conspire with other men (strangers) against the lives of their own wives...nah. doesn't play out. Scarry movie for the 10 y.o.'s--otherwise, unintentionally comic; (angry voice) "and her kitchen was spotless!" lol.

  • I think the remake has a better ending, but the original is so much better how the story slowly progressed.

    Thanks for uploading!

  • A fantastic film that is not your average horror fest! It is a low key (at least the first half) thriller that is totally menacing in it's slowly paced story! This makes it a very affective story! If you are looking for blood & men in hockey masks with butcher knives......go watch Freddie of Jason! This film is not for you! One of the best sleepers from the 1970's!

  • @chevyplumb3 freddie and jason are horror. this movie a thriller.

  • So excited to discover your channel! Thanks for this upload! One of my faves.

  • This movie was awesome, the book was so so, Sliver was garbage, and Rosemary's Baby (the novel) was one of the best pieces of literature in the 20th century. Ira Levin should have stopped while he was ahead.

  • Joanna Eberhart needed to drive her station wagon to Manhattan, pick up Rosemary Woodhouse in front of Dr C.C.Hill's office, then drive off into the sunset.

  • @MrRJMGREEN Naw. Elaine Robinson should have stayed on the bus with Benjamin.:)

  • @stillayl LOL, you're right. That was good!

  • Frank Oz's version is a two-hour puss out.

  • LOL THE SEX SCENE

  • Guy speaking here, this movie is a very important message for women everywhere, don't let the male species try and control you. hell my wife would castrate me if I tried :/

  • @angie4josh You've got to be kidding... in American society, women control men.

  • ..........dayum - these android women are perfect - better than real women....and they don't give u any lip!!!........if only this fantasy could be made real................

  • @24zingo ditto for the guys. I guess its so hard to find good men and women, we will eventually buy fakes. Might be a better deal all around.

  • Wow... growing up in this time i certainly remember all of those station wagons around...they were what mini vans are today

  • @TheVardiss22

Also the bathroom wallpaper in the NYC apartment in the start of the movie, that is a blast from the past Its funny how much of the 1970's fashions that the women are wearing has made a comeback.

  • The sinister truth IS it is wrong for women good takecare of their familys and children. FamineNazi movie.

  • I recognise Walter from somewhere and I just can't think where, its driving me nuts! I know it was another 70s film but I can't remember which one.

  • @BadGirlOfAutism He appeared in The Exorcist.

  • I didn't think movies could be uploaded onto Youtube, for copyright reasons and suchlike. Anyhow, I love this one; its chilling and thought-provoking.

  • I like that in the new one the bot's got caught. These old time actors are much better. Anyway, is that how men really are? They would go so far as to be mating with an Android? How will they populate Stepford? They forgot about that in these films. How will they make children? In the Stepford children they do the same remaking of teenagers. So that means that once the children get older, they remake them if they need to. And then they all stay adults. That what they want?

  • @761christ the film never looked that far into the future. What if the kids wanted to leave Stepford?

  • @HopefulObserver Let it out. It's an appropriate response.

  • YAHOO !

  • Tina Louise was Ginger on Gilligans Island.

  • @hjb103055 Interestingly enough, Judith Baldwin (Mrs. Cornell) replaced Tina Louise when the TV-movie versions of "Gilligan's Island" were produced.

  • thank you ....ive been looking all over the web for this movie.....good job...

  • Thank you so much for uploading. This video is very difficult to find.

  • Loved it.. Originally watched it when I was a kid.. I have a much better understanding of it now..

  • A modern masterpiece. That remake was a piece of crap.

  • @Eldritchfan as are all remakes.

  • @VengeanceIsMineBitch apart from cape fear.

  • Dang, Bobbie's a babe.

  • I always imagine Bobby's husband coming home and find her malfunctioning around the kitchen: "I thought we were friends. I thought we were friends". Do you think she would burn out before he got home? How often do you think they need servicing?

  • This was such a good movie!

  • Hey, its Franklin Cover aka Tom Willis.

  • Thanks for uploading!!!<333

  • I love this movie, thanks for posting!! :)
