This video was totally one sided.If you were serious about having a genuine interest in these people & their lives you would have employed the services of an interpreter.They never understood a thing of what you spoke & the only reason you were invited in was in hope of the cash you might give them.How would you like it if an Inuit man speaking ONLY his language was filming you & your family asking a lot of unintelligible inept questions & had the temerity to touch your child like you did his?

@kanakaken -- thanks for your note. I would not judge you because I don't know you. I can respond to your comment and say that these people speak Hamer. They don't speak Amharic. Even local Ethiopians don't speak Hamer. They welcomed me into their village and home. They don't use money so no money was involved. You have NO idea where I was, what I was doing, why I was there or anything, really. So, I'll let you continue to use your imagination.

First, the Hamer tribe is different from the Bana tribe. Although they both speak Hamer-Banna. Second, NONE of the tribes in the Omo Valley are "Muslim," they don't speak Arabic, and they don't know what a Koran is. Your imagination is humorous! @mutnojme -- i do not believe that they practice a "western" form of birth control. Their culture is quite different and is directly connected to nature: weather, temperature, moon, sun, wind and time. they use this in what westerners call a "spiritual" way to practice birth control. However, there are NGOs that have offered methods of western birth control - which is also a way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. I am not an expert, so please don't use my word as factual. These tribes are nomadic. They move around the land according to the weather. Within each tribe, there is a clan, or "community" with a chief. Each clan protects one another from intruders. Each clans understands whose home is whose. Misbehavior within a clan is dealt with by the chief and the counsel.

Unfortunately, there is a road being built from Arba Minch through the Omo Valley. This will bring tourism and undoubtedly urbanize the region. I hope they stop building the road.

Hi there. They understand the word "Salaam" because it is a universal word for "hello" in the muslim parts of Africa. 50% of Ethiopians have muslim roots. Single words are often understood like, "hello", "thank you" and "photo". Similarly, if you say "hello" in many parts of China or Peru or Liby, they will understand too!
