Hi i'm 14 and my we have had two dog trainers to help to teach us how to make our dog (a 1 year old English springer spaniel) walk nicely on a lead. The first has told us to us a halti (it goes around the dogs nose like a mussel but the dog can still do everything) and the second a choke rope. We stopped using both because we thought it was doing more harm to the dog than it was good because it seemed like he enjoyed choking himself. I then watched your video about how to make a dog walk on a
I love your videos I'm 16 and I follow you a lot and I respect and love ur idea to reach the average family its a great idea but what about people who train dogs for a living and all the suddon all these people start training their own dogs and they go out of buisness?
Are there any way to see your shows any other way than animal planet? Sadly my apartment building cant have animal planet unless i spend alot of money that i dont have avaiable. DVD's or something? Congratulations by the way! :)
Sounds wonderful! I coach my clients to be their dog's trainer. I tell them I am not training their dog, but teaching them to become good trainers; my goal is to support that bond between owners and their doggies.
Will we see the show here, in US? IS Tina going to be on the show? She should be--she's a fantastic trainer to Chandi...also the beautiful relationship shows as well .
i have a beagle mix pup who is 7 months old feb 24. i took him to trainging at petsmart and it hasnt really helped a lot. he steals shoes, pillows, clothes..you name he steals it. he doesnt listen to drop it. he doesnt listen to his name half the time. no hes not deaf. is there anyway somone could give me som advice. im 18 its not my first dog ive had three black labs in my life. Labs were so much easier to train beagles are HARD. anyone have any advice? any other beagle owners wit same prob?
It's awesome how he wants to reach out to the next generation, Like I'm 12 and have 2 dogs who are competing in agility, dance comps. and I train them all by my self, but it is just absoutly horrid how people in my school think of dogs, like all of the girls have chiuhah named chichi or fluffy or taco, and they are all in a purse 24/7 its sickening
Congratulations, and fantastic. Looking forward to it and am so happy you are moving forward in a way that will continue to contribute to the advancement of the dog/human relationships and to the well being of dogs and their owners everywhere. We love you Zak George.!
Hey Zak! Can you please help me out? I have a 1yr old Fila Brasileiro & she's pretty good at obeying my commands etc. Her only issue is that she gets SUPER feisty when she is eating food and there's other dogs around. She also gets this way with her water & any toys! Any human can stick their hand in her mouth while she's eating or play with toys etc & she's ABSOLUTELY FINE. It's only when there are other dogs around- I cannot give her a treat, food, toy or water. Please help!!
I have sort of a loaded question. We just had to put our older dog down yesterday because of a huge tumor that ballooned in his belly in a really short amount of time. We lost our oldest dog to the same cancer just a year before him, both had G. retriever in them. Now, we have our youngest dog Kayla who is not even 2 yet and I don't know how to make her understand that her "brother" isn't coming back. It's so painful to see her looking around for him. Any suggestions?
my mom makes me so mad when shes like dogs are dumb and that they dont remember things. i always say to her that there a lot smarter then she knows and that dogs can learn so much. then she shuts up :)
i wish you could 'reach' my brother. I've tried clicker training my GSD on multiple occasions and she picks it up well, but my younger brother completely disregards all of the work I put into trying to properly train her. ill be in the middle if training with cut up hot dogs as her reward, and hell just grab the whole bag and dump it out on the floor for her >:( hes 14 and im 15.
Thanks for everything you do for the dog crowd, Zak. It really makes the world a better place that there are people like you in various communities that enjoy what they do and want to share their joy with others.
Zak I must say, I have soaked up all your training videos and have aquired so much knowledge from you and other trainers that when I'm training with my dog or when Im in the agility ring, adults don't treat me like a kid, they treat me like a dog trainer. Thank you Zak for helping me represent junior handlers/ trainers. People actually look to me for dog advice, it feels amazing to educate the general public. (:
Congratulations, and what a marvelous idea. This sounds like it will provide another gentler option for others to the current "whisperer" techniques that I keep hearing so many people quote and try. And the kids can do it. I've had people tell me not to let the kids train my dogs, but they do a great job...supervised, yes, but they are the teacher/partner at that moment, for that lesson.
I'm so excited for you! Very cool. I have young siblings (7 and 3) and both LOVE to work with Jackson. My 3 year old sister just has a blast helping me teach Jackson! And I think it's such an important thing for young people to learn the love of an animal early on and each have respect and trust between each other. It's a very cool thing to see!
Can't tell you how many people act as if I'm telling them to chop off both their arms when I tell them that they need to spend about 40 minutes a day exercising their dogs. Then I actually getting around to showing them how to train their dogs and what they need to do. I get more resistance out of the owners than I do from the dogs themselves. Lots of people get a dog and think they're getting a potted plant, and expect the dog to act that way. It makes me sick, but it also makes me money.
I'm so excited, I can't wait to see your new show!
As for getting out and reaching "the next generation," you already have. I have watched just about every single one of your YouTube videos and episodes of Superfetch and have been using a mix of my methods with yours to train my dog over the years, and I am only 16 years old. It is my ambition when I graduate high school to head into dog pyschology and behavior, and you are my favorite trainer.
Amazing, so excited Zak. My family adopted a 2 year old boy (person, not dog!) last month and he has fitted in so well and already 'helps out' with her. It was great for my dog too, she has reacted very, very well to him being here and it's great! I think this will be a wonderfull thing to introduce children too. The CBBC is a lovley channel too, it's the main kids channel in the UK! :)
Congratulations Zak! That is so awesome!! We are very happy for you =o) I love how you stress the relationship first (which is so true), and the impact you are going to make with this show will be wonderful. Do you know if it will be airing in the US? I'd love to see it when it comes out.
Some people just don't want to train their dogs and are happy with the relationship they've got. Also pretty much all dog owners "love" their dogs, it's just that some are not crazy about dogs in general.
I saw the auditions posted but sadly at 22 1/2 i'm too old to apply, good luck though and can't wait to see it :) hope you enjoy the Uk and don't mind all the rain we get, haha

@myran2000 I completely agree. I remember first seeing you on TV when I was about 11 or 12, and I was just amazed by what you and Venus could do. And I became hooked when I discovered your Youtube videos shortly after. I'm 18 now, and I still continue to learn so much about [the behavior of] dogs with each and every video you make. You're one of the few trainers who have helped me discover that I want to turn my love of training dogs into a career.
@myran2000 I'm 15 and i agree. My dog is a border collie and she responds really well to me because i have put in the time to train her. my family then complain that she wont respond to them and all i say is well i put in the time, why dont you
