Music of a now era and it's about the moment. Don't ever let a beauitful woman or good looking guy pass you by. Never second guess a discussion you make now.
this song means more and more to me the older i grow. i'm leaving my hometown for the first time, and i've felt ever distant from my best friends as they live far away. now the few friends i've finally started making here will be far from me too. is the universe going to be constantly expanding the older i get? "where do your friends go? where do they see you?"....
the absolute beauty of this song is so crushing and overwhelming at times that i refrain from listening to it.. however every time i do i'm always happy that i did.
this song will haunt me for years to come, and that's a really, really good thing :-)
Took a little time to grow into it, but after I heard Helicopter, then this song, everything came easy. I understood its beauty. Go Deerhunter. I wish I was the man to tell that faggot to turn it up, its really good!
Answer: I was pointing out that comparisons can be made between the lyrical and musical content of any number of songs (many of which have earned recognition as having their own merit) that incidentally share similarities with older works. Borrowing and variation have long been conventions of art, and it's kinda silly to diminish the value of work of imagination because it (probably unintentionally) echoes another.
While "Earthquake" is the most earth-shattering track on this album, the songwriting and composition here is undoubtedly the most mature I've ever heard Bradford Cox. The way the music sweeps into the second half alongside Cox's crooning is something out of a Neil Young live show.
Amazing album. I was a bit surprised though at how abruptly this track ends....leaves me wanting more and makes me always repeat the album again atleast once :D
(I guess that might be the reason for Deerhunter to make it like that?)
@infernia7blade I think it ends abruptly because of how this song symbolizes Jay Reatard's life and how it ended too short. That's just my take though
@daedley Aah, thanks for the info. I just checked wiki and indeed this track is a tribute to Jay Reatard, I wasn't aware of that. It's nice to know why artists take some production or editing choices, sometimes it's just really unclear as to why something sounds the way it does. Going to check out The Reateards/Lost Sound :)
I believe that the reason the track ends so abruptly is because this track is dedicated to Jay Reatard... who died of a cocaine overdose at 29. So, like Jay's life, the track is cut short.
@foilseal I am speaking for myself... and many others who loved and admired him and his music. No one here cares if you don't like Jay, this is a song/video for celebrating his life. If you don't want to, why dont you shut the fuck up and have some respect for the dead.
