HOW WAS SHE ATTACHED TO AN INFANTRY PLATOON!?!?!?! practically everyone is telling me that if i become a medic (68w) i wont be attached to any kind of combat unit. how was she chosen????
@blueladydragon88 Stay focused and try to keep a long term 'goal oriented' view until you get to San Antonio. You will not have a lot of medical training in basic other than basic first aid. When you start class in TX, think of it as being academically behind from day one, THEN study your ass off. DON'T hang out at hacienda & Betty's Battalion until your last two weeks. If you're not EMS cert. it's too late to start a class BUT get a used textbook and start reading. Have a unit assignment yet?
@blueladydragon88 If you have CNA, you are way ahead of the rest of your class. The only other books I suggest are anything on emergency medicine. In basic, you'll have to store it with your civilian clothes and you won't see it again until you finish - no big deal because you won't need to study until you get to Ft. Sam. I was there for 15 weeks but it was in '89! Since then, lots of med training is done at other locations. You're getting your LPN, correct?
@FelchBelcher My ultimate goal is to be a CRNA, but i've got a ways to go before that happens. Been looking at books for medical surgical nursing and wound care.
iv recently been preparing myself to be a combat medic. nice to see women doing this so well. im aslo a girl so i hope i go through it as good as they did :)

They are in very high demand, you being in the UK would have to first join theyour army asking your recruiter if a spot is open for combat medic if so contract and join and if you pass basic you will be assigned to Medic school and if you don't wash out you will become a medic if you do then your mos will be changed and you will be just a solider
Boy, the Army has sure changed since my time - a chick in an infantry unit in the field. Looks like the 101st. I wonder how heavy her pack and medical bag are and how far she has to hump them. My pack w/medical bag plus a claymore bag w/pressure dressings, ace bandages, gauze and an IV, and ammo and water weighed at least 80 lbs
If that chick can cut it in an infantry unit, I salute her.
neo Yeah, we didn't wear body armor or a "steel pot" (helmet, as we called it then), intstead just wore a bush hat. The only time we wore steel pots was if the press went out with a unit. Then the brass made sure everything was regulation, including wearing a steel pot.
Besides, neither the steel pot nor the flak jacket would stop an AK-47 round. But if the helmet and body armor are 55 lbs. total, you guys carry a heavier load then we did. At least it will stop an AK-47 round.
My condolences and I salute you. My daughter was just posted over seas. Graduated Regular Army pv2 from ft. Sam it is my understanding that the Female Combat Medic MOS has been discontinued.
68W rocks. Women medics reach the forgotten and non-class citizens in the mid east, the females. Women have NO rights over there and when the med units show up, 100s of males show up for med help and only a couple females do. Women over there are just property and if there is a female medic the odds are better that these women and children can get help. Medics not only have to take care of their life but the lives of their brothers. They have a lot on their shoulders. God bless the medics.
Watching this video was like taking a trip down memory lane. I was a female medic that was attached to 1/8 Infantry during OIF 1. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.
don't forget your BSI doc, you may think it's not as needed when there are no visable fluids pumping out but it's a good thing to keep up with, and decon your hands before/after if possible...and stop taking off your kevlar...other then that..keep up the good work..solider medic!

Generally the male medics get put into the infantry platoons, I think it's cool that they let her be in one.

Are Combat medics in high demand? I'd be very interested in it. Although don't want to be competing with masses of other people.
