Joke after joke, Line after awesome line. Episode after episode. Year after year. And performed to perfection. How did the writers and actors do it? You talk about magic in a bottle! The 70's was TV Heaven (AITF, Sanford & Son, Lavern & Shirley, Jeffersons, etc.). An insaine amount of talent in those days. Outside of documentary/history-type channels, I watch no current tv programming. It's boring, talentless crap. God bless the 70's and youtube!

Wow how times change...if the conversation about pregnancy took place today Archie and Mike would probably be on the exact opposite sides. @AgApE010 Without the other characters there would be no Archie, and without their annoyances to him, there would be no humor. So Archie is not the foundation of the humor by any means, moreso when he was the last character on the show, aside from Stephie and the occasional appearance of Gloria and Mike.

Mike, that meathead. If someone is uncomfortable about using a particular word and insist on using a more friendlier word that has the same meaning, I'd respect that. If Archie wants to say "expecting", Mike should respect that, even if Archie is a bigot and Mike disagrees with his views all the time.

Also, it's bad enough that he uses the word "pregnant" that makes Archie uncomfortable, but saying "knocked up" is even worse. He's just rude for no reason at all. That meathead.

Archie doesn't have a 'hang up' about words: he has a natural sense of reverence and dignity for things that deserve to be treated with reverence and dignity. Meathead makes sex sound dirty. Archie knows it's personal and intimate and should be treated with respect. "Pregnant" is medical; 'expecting' is neutral; 'knocked up' is disrespectful and vulgar - like Mike.

@ReccaK That's an excellent point, and I totally agree. Archie is uses lots of offensive and insensitive language. The "knocked up" line was a little over the top, but there's nothing wrong with the word pregnant. It's the accurate word for the situation. Archie DOES have a hang-up about words and about sex. Sex is an ordinary part of life. Yes, it's private and personal, but Mike was not over the line at all.
